Quintinha Apolo is a delightful old Portuguese farmhouse in Santa Luzia which is a stunning traditional fishing village in the eastern Algarve.

Quintinha Apolo is located just a 3 or 4 minute stroll from the seafront area of Santa Luzia and several small grocery shops are 3 to 4 minutes walk..

The farmhouse has been carefully transformed into two completely separate very comfortable guest apartments, (The Garden Apartment and The House apartment).

The Garden Apartment is approached via it`s own lockable gate and it`s own front door, bringing you into a spacious kitchen.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything for a family holiday and has a large kitchen table.

The lounge is a large modern and spacious room with a L shaped modern Leather sofa which converts into a double sofa bed.

In addition there is a separate single bed (disguised as a comfy settee) meaning the lounge can easily accommodate 3 people.

There is a flat screen TV with satellite DVD and Music Player and a large log burner for the colder months.

The bedroom is bright and modern with a double bed ample wardrobe space and chest of drawers.

The bathroom again is bright and modern with a very large walk-in shower with American shower head, Washbasin and Toilet.

Both the Bedroom and the Lounge have Ceiling fans for cooling in the hotter months.

Outside the apartment is a spacious shaded terrace for dining, with a large table and chairs. Meals can be from your kitchen or the Brick Barbecue and full Bakers Oven just a few metres away.

Next to the terrace is the large pool which is oval shaped and has the shallow end closest to the apartment and has a separate children`s paddling pool.

The attractive front and rear gardens offer shaded seating areas for relaxing out of the direct sun.

The front garden also offers a large Trampoline for energetic youngsters and to the rear of the property are: a large brick Barbecue and a traditional bread baking oven.

In the back garden you will also find a washroom with 2 washing machines, ironing facilities and plenty of clothes drying space, both inside and out.

The Pool is large and oval shaped with a shallow and deep end and with a separate children`s paddling pool.The pool is shared between just two apartments and may be all for your selves if the other apartment is vacant.

About this location

The Algarve region

The Eastern Algarve is very different to the tourist dominated western region, as it largely remains traditional and as it has been for centuries.

The coastal towns of the eastern Algarve are 'real' towns, far more under-developed than those in the Central and Western area of the Algarve.

If you are after a more relaxed style of holiday, away from the hordes of tourists and water parks, then the Eastern Algarve will be the place for you.

Why is it so undeveloped? The reason for this is probably because the towns along the coast are not generally right on the sea. They are separated from the Atlantic by salt-pans, marshland and lagoons. These form part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve which stretches from just south of Faro along the coast to the town of Vila Nova de Cacela, a few kilometres west of the Rio Guadiana river on the Spanish border.

The beaches you'll find along the coast are to be found on long sandy islands and outcrops. One of the favorite and most beautiful is Barril Beach on the Ilha de Tavira. just minutes from Quintinha Apolo. Because of this, little development of hotels has been possible, and should therefore keep the area quieter than other areas in the Algarve.

The wetlands of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve make this area of coastline, wild and interesting, in contrast to the red sandstone cliffs of the central Algarve and the rugged coastline in the west.

Further inland, the area is completely undeveloped. Small rustic villages nestle in the remote countryside. You'll find the local inhabitants going about their daily business, the same today as they did many generations before.

However there is still plenty to do for all the family and the water parks and major attractions are only half an hour or so away.

Tavira is very beautiful and will take a full day to explore and there are some fantastic places to visit around such as the Waterfall called Boca do Inferno ( Mouth of Hell)!!!!!!!

Also well worth a visit is Alcoutim on the banks of the Rio Guariano which forms the border between Portugal and Spain. It is stunningly beautiful and the village mirrors the one on the opposite Spanish side of the river.

Along the coast on the way to Alcoutim are several very special old villages such as Cacela Velhla, which are a must see.

Faro, apart from being home to the Airport has an Old Town, Harbour area and shopping area which make it well worth a visit and on the way back to Santa Luzia is Olhao which is a major fishing port and has an amazing fish Market.

In the same area lies Loule (home to a new football stadium built for the Euro 2004 Tournament) which is a very special and stylish old Town.

Santa Luzia, Tavira

Quintinha Apolo is located just a 3 or 4 minute stroll from the seafront area of Santa Luzia.

The village is a wonderful and traditional working fishing village (known as the Octopus Capital of Europe) which has bundles of charm.

The seafront is very picturesque with views over the River Formosa with it`s traditional fishing boats and leisure craft towards the world famous Ria Formosa National Park, a protected nature reserve with superb Lagoons, Marshes and vast Sand Dunes which are home to a large range of rare and beautiful birds and other wildlife.

It is here that you will find our truly magnificent beach with its stretch of 14 miles of perfect golden/white sand and the crystal clear blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Even at the very busiest times, just a short stroll along the beach will take you to acres of beach all to your selves.

There are two options for reaching the beach:

A small river ferry leaves from the centre of the village harbour front for a very enjoyable 5 minute trip across the river

Or At the western end of the village is a very cute and enjoyable miniature train which takes you on a 5 minute journey through the lagoons and dunes.

There is also a path beside the track for a very pleasant stroll.

Santa Luzia seafront has numerous bars, cafe`s and restaurants where you can relax with a drink or meal whilst enjoying the beautiful views and watching the fishermen at work.

In among the villages labyrinth of old fishermen`s cottages and cobbled streets you will find lots more cafe's and restaurants where you can enjoy a very wide range of excellent food from all over Europe.

The village also has more than a dozen grocery shops offering fabulous (and local) fresh fruit and vegetable, meat and fish along with every conceivable household item you could need during your holiday. all of this is within a 5 minute stroll from your apartment.

If you take a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive you can find yourself in the western Algarve capital of Tavira.

Tavira offers truly beautiful historic architecture and sights including a Roman Bridge and an 8th century Phoenician castle.along with riverside parks and wonderful dining opportunities.

There is a very large and glamorous Shopping Grand Plazza and several major supermarkets.

"Very nice"

Couldn't really fault the appartment or the onsite owner who was very helpful and kept an invisible presence unless needed.Very quite and was nice to relax around the pool.Wifi was signal was goo… More
