About the home

This converted farmhouse is situated alongside farmhouse Ghar Ilma lV, on a hillside location 2Km away from the shops, bars and cafes of Victoria. It offers breathtaking views of almost all the island. The farmhouse enjoys a quiet and secluded atmosphere and is a perfect choice for a relaxing peaceful holiday.

This farmhouse consists of two storeys with separate kitchen, dining and living room together with two bedrooms and a shower room on the ground floor. Another bedroom with a bath/shower room en suite is on the upper floor. Outside there is a swimming pool and this area is very spacious including a large garden.

The Island of Gozo region

Gozo, which in Maltese is called Ghawdex (pronounced: Awdesh), It has an area of 67 square kms, is 14 kms long and 7 kms wide. With a coastline of 43 km, it is the second largest island of the Maltese Archipelago that, together with the smaller isle of Comino and the main island of Malta form the Republic of Malta.

To Get to Gozo, it involves a 25 minute ferry crossing. It therefore enjoys warm summers and mild winters and this makes it the ideal holiday destination at any time of the year.

Gozo earned its popular nickname the Island of the Three Hills probably derived from the hilly view when observed from mainland Malta. Throughout the years Gozo has been vastly influenced by the cultures and history of a series of dominators including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spanish, the Knights of St. John, the French and the British, who all left their mark on the cultural and the folkloristic heritage of the population.

In comparison with mainland Malta, one finds a more varied geology and larger relief contrasts, with typical flat-topped hills. The island of Gozo is not overpopulated, and therefore greener and quite more peaceful.

The main sources of income are from Tourism, Agriculture, and Fishing together with a number of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Santa Lucija area

The peaceful hamlet of Santa Lucija, although in itself incorporated within Kercem, is quite distinct with its rustic church square empathising a calm picturesque charm unequalled throughout the whole island. Santa Lucija is slightly inhabited by country folk with a few old houses disorderly built around an old chapel dedicated to St. Lucy.

Santa Lucija's green pastures, are the local shepherd's playground, and sights of grazing sheep are very common especially in winter or spring. A number of old farmhouses in the area have been discreetly converted to country villas, with great care spent on these properties to retain a rustic look. Santa Lucija is one of the few unspoilt places in Gozo whose inhabitants stubbornly resist a hectic urban life while rendering nostalgists from larger communities envious of what they gave away in time.

Set on a hillside, 200m from the old village of Santa Lucija, Ghar Ilma farmhouse enjoys a romantic secluded location and spectacular views of around two thirds of the island of Gozo. This farmhouse is furnished throughout in rustic style to very high standards. It has beautiful terraces, a small paved garden and a swimming pool.
