Home description

This apartment with its own private entrance is situated on the upper floor of a beautiful villa set in a pine forest, with its own secluded south facing walled garden, large pool and sun terraces.

Casa Alegria was built in 1969 and was one of the first houses to be built on this private cul-de-sac (Punta Blanca). Over the years it has had many guises, including at one stage a "spiritual" hotel.

The apartment is air-conditioned and sleeps 4 people,2 in a self-contained area with lounge, bathroom and kitchen, and 2 and across the large roof terrace there in a separate double/ or two single beds bedroom. Both bedrooms have en-suite facilities. One extra guest can be added on a hotel quality rollaway bed.

The location is one of the finest points of Casa Alegria as it is situated between two beautiful sandy beaches - Niu Blau Beach and Cala Pada. Both beaches are very safe for swimming and have a good variety of casual beach restaurants for delicious fresh fish and good childrenís menus.

Cala Pada has a summer season daily ferry service to Formentera, Santa Eularia (San Eulalia) and Eivissa (Ibiza Town). We do, however, recommend hiring a car to maximise your stay.

Bed linen and towels are provided for your use. There is a once weekly maid service, and for bookings over 7 nights a linen change.

The Apartment lounge has a full Sky TV package and DVD player, and an open fireplace. The roof terrace has a built-in BBQ oven.

Smoking is allowed in the Apartment, and there is Wireless Internet access available for guests at no charge.

The house has a private swimming pool, and walled garden, all south facing and a barbecue oven.

There is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The restaurant capital of Ibiza- Santa Eularia - is 5 mins drive, and the cosmopolitan Eivissa (Ibiza Town) with its renowned bars and clubs is a further 15 min drive.

PLEASE NOTE;From the end of August 2008 the ground floor will be occupied by the English speaking owners and the pool and gardens will have shared access, with Apartment guests asked to only use the pool and gardens before 19.00hrs each day. Guest's privacy is respected at all times.

The Ibiza region

Casa AlegriaApartment is situated 5 minutes drive north of the lovely port of Santa Eulalia del Rio, situated down a quiet exclusive cul de sac approximately .75 km off the main road. Access to the beautiful unspolit beach of Playa De Niu Blau is by walking 300 m through pine woods, and across a dry bedded torrent or 5 mins by car via the main road. Other access to the sea is via a right of way to a rocky outcrop to Cala Pada beach with its ferries to Formentera etc. The area is flat.

Santa Eulalia del Rio / Cala Pada area

This sums up Santa Eulalia :

"...There are a lot more better qualified people than I to tell you about Santa Eulalia, but I have lived here for 23 years, and I can tell you that Santa Eulalia dances to a different rythm than the rest of the island......more a chilled-out ballad than mega-disco eardrum bursting techno funk......

....Santa Eulalia has been a refuge for the world weary for a long time. (see recommended reading: 'Life and Death of a Spanish Village'.Elliot Paul-1936).

....The discretion of the inhabitants and visitors is the keyword here .......no paparazzi or autograph hounds on the trail of the megastars, authors, artists and intellectuals who live in or visit this village.

.....Probably the only place in the world I know of where a nobel prize winner or a formula1 world champion or a mega rock star could find sanctuary and serenity."

this sums up the beach:

"The beach is flanked by two small capes covered with vegetation which grows right up to the beach itself. An important torrent has its outlet to the sea here. adding much to the place's attractiveness. The beach is 100 metres long and 12 metres wide and is composed of fine natural sand alternating with sections of pebbles brought down by the torrent as well as rocks. The sea bottom is varied, consisting of sand, pebbles and rocks, with the last of these predominating. The gentle gradient makes this a secure place for bathing. At 12 metres out from the shore the depth is 1 metre and not until 38 metres out does it reach 2 metres. Its southerly aspect ensures that the winds that blow are always light and from the sea, which provides great security. The beach's characteristic orography enclosed between two capes and the presence of conifers almost down to the shoreline itself gives it considerable scenic value. The beach's natural endowments allow it to offer a wide variety of activities. Very secure aspect for whichever leisure or sporting activity considered: the great variety of its sea floor, beach and countryside make it ideal for lovers of nature exploration or those looking for attractive scenery."

How to get there

Fly to Ibiza airport and then either take a taxi, or arrange a hire car. Travelling time from airport to house is approx. 20 mins.

Review submitted by Matthew from London E11 (Submitted: 10/01/2007)
"October 2006 I enjoyed Ibiza very much. The house (Casa Alegria) was really nice and the beaches (Niu Blau & Cala Pada) had very good restaurants and a nice sea. The house was really big. It had (ground floor) three bedrooms and bathrooms, loads of extremely nice rooms, a swimming pool which had a shallow end and a deep end, and was quite big. The garden was enormous and all of it was beautiful. There was lots of room in the garden to play sports. On the beaches there were loads of great things to do. There was loads of space and not too many people there. The sea was just right to swim (in). I enjoyed going in the water, and out of the water you can play all sorts of games or you could just sunbathe. There’s loads of sunbeds you could sunbathe on. Matthew Pirotta age 9 "

"Alegria is comfortable and has a fun quirkiness about it. Good for couples, even better for familes and the self-catering apartment above the house was very popular. Owners have thoughtfully included just about every amenity to make the stay cozy and we enjoyed hanging around at the house on days we didn't feel like eating out. The pool and the backyard are what truly set this home apart. It's a very beatiful and peaceful setting, with excellent privacy. The location is convient and we enjoyed exploring the different towns. It's quiet at night and it's nice to get away from the madness in Evissa. There is a lovely beach nearby and the coastline nearby makes for a beautiful walk. Defnitely talk to Liz when you first arrive for the places to go and to avoid. Owner Andy was helpful and accomadating whenever possible and the efficiency and responsiveness of the service was very satisfactory."

"

We had a wonderful time - the villa was great particularly in terms of location as I've been looking for years for somewhere walkable to the beach and easy distance from a town yet quiet and in the countryside. Liz (housekeeper)was extremely helpful particularly helping us with car hire which I'm sure isn't in her remit, and Carmen the maid was lovely. We re-explored the island and didn't find a nicer beach than Niu Blau (particularly as it lacked the shaved head/ tattoo brigade which seemed prevalent elsewhere). Also we loved Santa Eulalia both old and new. So many thanks for everything.

"We had a fantastic holiday. The property was clean and very well appointed, close to the "Niu Blau" beach (with great chiringuitos) and lovely town of Santa Eulalia. Very quiet. Fantastic pool and garden. The property manager, Liz, was extremely helpful when our car broke down and helped us in every way. There were lots of toys and DVDs for our 4 year-old daughter. We would definitely recommend this 5 star property to anyone."

"We were 2 families travelling together family one was 2 adults and 3 boys aged 5, 7 and 9 family 2 was 2 adults and 1 girl aged 11. This villa was ideal as we could have our own space the owners had carefully planned for children as everything a child could want was in it a little too much choice for the boys who thought it was christmas morning and couldnt decided what to play with first. The villa was spacious and the pool was great the villas location was in a quiet position but close to the beach all in all a very relaxing place to holiday. would recommend to anyone."

"Had a great time at the villa, we arrived in dribs and drabs and there were 9 of us in total. There was plenty of comunal space and at no time did we feel like we were on top of each other. The rooms are all nice and big and the bed in our room was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, infact it has prompted me to buy a new matress!! We had about 10 other friends staying in ibiza that weekend and had a BBQ on the sat afternoon for everyone the villa was perfect for this as it has a great kitchen with two hobs and a lovely ouside space. The only down point for us was the drive to Evissa and the clubs which seemed to take longer each time. But all in all a great villa for a large group. Our group was 4 couples and 1 flying solo aged 27 - 38. "

"Lovely holiday, lovely island, lovely villa....My sisters family were very happy with the upstairs apartment - really homely and easy to live in....

We were very comfortable downstairs, especially with the pool and patio - you've done it really nicely. As we commented in the visitors book it's done our kids the world of good confidence wise in the pool, they adored it. The toys in the play area were much appreciated by all of the kids - nice thought....

Thanks for the bottle of Fizz, and your attention to extra detail. We will recommend you if the opportunity arises...

"OCTOBER 11th-14th 2004 Casa Alegria provides spacious, quality accommodation in a relaxing and tranquil setting. It took us just minutes to adjust to the pace of life in this secluded location. Only a short walk from the house are a choice of beaches with good facilities and a half hour walk along the coast takes you to Santa Eulalia with it's lively marina - great for lunch"

"Review by Veronica Bailey from London

OCTOBER 2004 Arriving on Ibiza, with only a 20 minute drive from the airport to Casa Alegria, there is a realization that you can be relaxing in the sun by the pool, within the tropical green surroundings so typical of Niu Blau, in a matter of 3 hours from London Stanstead. This traditional detached spanish villa has spacious accommodation suitable for both family and friends, with enough bathrooms, terraces, and garden for you all to relax either together or in your own sun-spot. The large private roof terrace above the main house can be a separate apartment with your own barbecue and views across this fertile land. The perfect place to watch the sun go down in the evening. And in the morning a sublime window view from the bathroom, of olive trees basking in morning sun within the rich red soil reminds you of why you are on holiday. Downstairs sleeps 6-8 (with 3 en-suite double bedrooms) and the large living room opens out onto a stone veranda which overlooks the pool. This area is where the entertaining gets going. A large wooden table and chairs, sheltered from the sun if need be, are the best seats in the house. Once the music is tempo, and the beverages flowing, one can forget the day and time and loose oneself in the beautiful, ambient surroundings that Andrew and Catherine have so successfully created. Dining 'al fresco' is the best way to enjoy Casa Alegria but should you be recovering from a night or lunch in Ibiza town and needing to get away from the heat of the sun, each bedroom is tastefully decorated, with cool egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy white towels. You can re-charge with a disco nap /siesta before relaxing in this Ibiza's perpetual motion."

"Review by James Straffon from London

OCTOBER 2004 The only downside to staying at Casa Alegria, is you might not see much of Ibiza. Such is the inherent tranquility - from residing amongst fragrant pines, a stones throw from an undisturbed, sheltered beach - you will almost definitely want to indulge yourself, by experiencing every inch of this rustic, characterful oasis. Well-positioned to sample Ibiza's varied markets and towns, we found Casa Alegria provided an ideal base to get into 'island life'. But you can equally stock-up with wares and kick back in this charming haven and let the world go by. Whether lounging around the pool, or feasting to the ubiquitous accompaniment of evening Cicadas, there's scope to relax and unwind, in excess."
