Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
3/4 bedroom countryside villa with private pool that can sleep up to 8 people. In a quiet location with beautiful views- great for walkers and bird watchers. Tavira and its charms are a short 10 minute drive away, as are the beaches and golf courses. Ideal for young families as the house is off the beaten track, so children can roam free safely, with lots to explore!
There is wild life in abundance, and a little different from the UK, so look out for the wild boar, they are there - although we have never seen one. You might be the first guest to do so.
In summer, in the late afternoon, you will be visited by the house martins coming for their evening drink from the swimming pool, yes even they seem to like a "Sun Downer"!
This is a self catering holiday and because of the rural location a car is essential, however there are lots of car rental firms at the airport in Faro, they all have web links from all the airline web sites. Don't be afraid of the local car hire companies as they are all good and cheaper than the majors, we use them regularly.
Across from the villa is a small country hotel, which has changed hands recently, so I'm not sure what they are offering at the moment, I will update this later, but it does have a bar, so a stroll over early evening to find out whats on offer could be worth while, at least a G & T or beer will be available.
The house has 2/3 bedrooms downstairs (two twin rooms and one sofa bed) and a family bathroom(both bath and shower). Upstairs is the master bedroom with an en suite shower room, the bacony/terrace leads off this room. Outside we have large poolside terrace with sunlougers, umbrellas and a table and chairs under a shady pergola. Once you arrive at the house the access in and out of the house is wheelchair friendly as everything is on the flat- no steps. We have tried to make the house a comfortable as possible and it is very well equipped, we regard it as a home from home so we have tried to think of everything.
We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of heaven!

About this location
The Algarve region
What makes the Algarve such a great place? For the holidaymakers from around the world that fly into Faro Airport or drive from other parts of Europe each year, it's the promise of sun-drenched days at the beach, sharing in a lovely relaxed and welcoming family-orientated culture and endless options for dining out and things to do, for all ages. The area has long been thought of as great family holidays and beach holidays and the region has deservedly earned a reputation for golf holidays too. However the Algarve should also be known for its truly unique contrast between the golden coastline and the beautiful rural countryside, its many historic attractions and thousands of species of flora and fauna, making it the perfect holiday destination for interests such as photography, painting, nature watching, walking and other outdoor pursuits.
The Algarve, Portugal, is only a 3 hour flight (or less) from the United Kingdom, Ireland and many other parts of Europe and flights arrive to the region's sole international airport, Faro Airport (in central Algarve). Faro flights arrive daily throughout the year, with several arrivals and departures each day from airlines during the busiest summer months of July to September.
The beautiful sandy beaches are, of course, one of the major attractions for the Algarve (and understandably too, because they are some of the best in the world, with Blue Flag awards to prove it!) but this sunny southern region of Portugal offers so much more as well! The fantastic weather that delivers dry sunny days for most of the year, makes enjoying outdoor life a way of life. The Algarve is perfect for walking, sightseeing and cycling and for all the sports you can imagine – surfing, golf, tennis, horse riding, kayaking and even extreme sports such as kite surfing, rock climbing and wake boarding. Families can enjoy water parks, theme parks and zoos, boat trips along the breath-taking coastline (with dinghy rides into the caves and 'grottos' and the opportunity to see dolphins too), crazy golf, karting and many other things to do in the Algarve!
Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo
Tavira is a living working town, it doesn't shut down in winter, and it has been sympathetically restored and retains its Algarvian charm and beauty. There are plenty of excellent restaurants, cafes and a fantastic summer programme with free open air concerts in the town square. The local council is providing something unique - culture and promotion of local skills and talent. There is only one night club and its set on the outskirts of town if that's your scene! Plenty of shops, a new shopping centre and cinemas showing English speaking films for the rare rainy day. The surrounding marshes of the Ria Formosa national park are a bird lovers delight, as well as offering walking, fishing and cycling opportunities.
GOLF: Several golf courses close by, Benamor, Monte Rei, Quinta da Ria etc. 8 half an hour or less to drive to if you head towards Spain, more if you cross the boarder. Head west and you have Villamoura about 40 minutes away. As a golfer I have played many of them, they are all very well kept and a joy to play. Some do require a handicap certificate. Clubs can be hired at most of the courses and there is now a hire shop at Faro airport offering a weeks hire for 35 euros (2010 price), good sets too.
Swimming & Beaches: The beaches and sea are clean, the Portuguese know what an asset they have and look after it, in summer the sea is warm, especially in our area where the beaches are wide. It all makes for a fantastic beach holiday for the whole family, if that's what you are after.
There are several beaches close by (10-15 minutes by car), Tavira beach is a short ferry ride away with lots of bars and restaurants. The beach at Santa Luzia is reached on foot or by a sweet little train ride. A little further afield is the beach at Manta Rota which is HUGE and stretches all the way to Spain with excellent car parking and facilities. Or my personal favourite- Fabrica, no facilities, a boat ride, pure clean sand and water, warm pools and clam picking.
Wild Life: You will see partridge from the bedroom window, there is wild boar roaming and house martins that visit in the evening, there must be much more but sadly its not an area I excel in, so when you've been please let me know so I can up date the site.
