Casa das Flores
About the home
This beautiful 3-bedroomed villa is only 20 minutes drive from Faro airport. It is set in the countryside, far from the madding crowds, on a hilltop by a ruined windmill. It is very peaceful, private and self-contained. But should you wish to tear yourself away from our heated pool, beaches from Tavira in the east to Albufeira in the west are all within easy reach and the golf courses of Val do Lobo and Quinta da Lago are only a short drive.
Casa das Flores is close to the village of Gorjoes, near Santa Barbara de Nexe, and midway between Loule and Sao Bras. Being on a hilltop it has views all round and yet its pool and garden are very secluded and not overlooked by any other property. Although a car is essential, there is a small supermarket not far away, a hypermarket at 7kms and twenty or more restaurants within 8kms. The Algarve Forum shopping complex is only 20 minutes away.
Outside, the villa is set in almost an acre of garden and orchard, completely fenced and walled. The villa, pool and main terraces are all on the same level and the only staircase leads to the roof terrace with 360 degree views of open countryside to the distant sea. The pool terrace, as well as being totally private, also enjoys most of these stunning views. The 10x5 metre pool is heated by solar panels (at no extra cost). The covered terrace at the poolside has a dining table, occasional table and chairs. The BBQ is on a separate terrace, also covered and shaded by an oak tree.

The Algarve / East Algarve region

Casa das Flores is on the border between central and eastern Algarve and so enjoys the benefits of both areas.
Near enough for a day trip to Spain or a cruise on Guidiana River. Visit the Chapel of Bones in Faro Cathedral...if you dare. Spend an afternoon browsing in the spectacular Algarve Shopping Centre while the kids sample the range of fast foods there. In the evening the Forum is great for a meal and a late night show at the Cinema (most films are shown in English).
Several beaches stand out. Take the little train across the salt marshes at Pedras del Rei to a sweeping beach with all amenities. The children will love it. Or take a boat trip out to Ilha Deserta from the centre of Faro and enjoy its solitude...apart from the wonderful seafood restaurant there. Visit Olhao fish market in the morning and wonder at the spectacular range of seafood on sale Then sample it, with lunch on the promenade while watching the the coming and goings of the fishing fleet. Then take a ferry out to Armona island for its popular beach.
Faro beach stretches for miles and can be quite quiet... but not at the weekends when the Faro locals descend en mass. Enjoy a walk in the Ria Formosa in Quinta do Lago; the wild life is unmatched. If you're lucky you'll see the flamingos.
Move further west but still only half and hour or so for the waterparks and the sand-sculpture 'Fiesa' at Pera. This is open all summer and is a must for all the family.
The Santa Barbara de Nexe / Gorjoes area
Loule and Sao Bras are almost equidistant (about 5 miles) from Cas das Flores. Both are towns with busy markets on Satudays. Loule gypsy market is specially popular with tourists. All your needs can be met in the major supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, post offices, shops and restaurants of either town. Santa Barbara is a smaller and more intimate village slightly closer, but still with a choice of restaurants and bars.
Don't miss the attractions of Estoi with its roman villa open to the public and its Palace, newly refurbished as a Pousada, or just wander its picturesque back streets and bars. Then try a visit to Sao Bras Museum of local culture or have a walk around Loule city walls. How about the free entry go-carting stadium in Almancil with activities for all ages.
Gorjoes, itself, is a sleepy backwater, excellent for country walks and meeting the locals. But it comes alive every Saturday night when open air dancing and music attracts people from miles around. Join in with the friendly Portuguese for a memorable evening.
The Algarve Stadium, built for the 2006 European Nations Cup, is close by (6kms) and hosts many special events during the summer.
Finally, Gorjoes sports one of the finest restaurants in the Algarve ( Sunday lunch will not break the bank) and highly rated Trip Advisor eating places are within 10 minutes drive. There is also a popular nightclub a couple of miles away.

Having never stayed at a villa before we did not know what to expect. As soon as we arrived we were overwhelmed on how beautifull the villa and surroundings were. The views were magnificent also. The villa is is equipped to a very high standard with carefull attention to detail making it very relaxing and home from home. The extensive library was a joy to peruse. Our kids loved the large pool and the patio area was good for sitting reading and sunbathing. Would have no hesitation in recommending this villa |
