The Algarve / East Algarve region

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal.
The temperature will generally fluctuate between 15º C in winter and 31ºC in summer.
In winter it is very rare to have temperatures below 0 º C and with an average of 300 days of sun a year, it is pretty certain that you will get good weather during your holiday.
The Algarve is perhaps most famous for the beauty and variety of its beaches.
The Atlantic shoreline is about 200 km long and comprises wildlife preservation areas, quiet coves, dramatic red-rock cliffs and caves and many sandy beaches of all shapes and sizes. The Algarve has so many different beaches that it would be difficult to inform you of all them.
But the Algarve is more than sand and Sun, there is a whole new life, and way of life, to discover.
The local restaurants, the local cuisine is prepared with the freshest vegetable, fish and meat.
In most cities you can find markets were you can buy the fresh vegetables, meat and fish.
We recommend that you visit the market in Loulé and São bras de Alportel, here you will also find the local producers with their homemade products, like home grown vegetables, smoked meats, cheeses, all sorts of dried fruits, in some cases you can also find homemade Medronho and Bagaço, and the local wicker hats and baskets.
The night life in the Algarve is the most varied that you can find in one place, you can find yourself in a disco on one night, and the following enjoying a party by the beach. From Albufeira to Vale do lobo and Quinta do Lago, you can find a wide verity of choices in bars, discos & restaurants.
The Santa Barbara de Nexe / Gorjoes area
Santa Barbara de Nexe is a small village a short distance from Faro, whilst a village it has all of the necessary amenities, Pharmacy, Bank, Church, post office, Restaurant, a couple of bars, petrol station, shops.
The growing number of tourist and foreign residents in the area created the need all these shops and services.
The privileged position of Santa Barbara de Nexe has placed it on one of the tips of the golden triangle, not to be consumed with the Bermuda triangle, completely different.
The golden triangle is the area between Quinta do Lago – Almancil – Quarteira, this have become the areas know for its abundance of luxury accommodation, gourmet restaurants and golf courses.
Santa Barbara’s privileged location, only 15klm away, allows you to have a reduced travel time.
Santa Barbara itself is within another triangle, between Faro-Loulé-São Bras de Alportel. Each of these cities plan their summer festivals independently each with it characteristic festival and its unique features.
Faro has the Sea food festival, Festival da Ria, every year for about 5 days, were you can eat the freshest sea food.
The “semana Académica”, the university’s festival that last 7 days, with rocks concerts, pop music.
But here is a lot more to Faro than just festivals, you can visit the old part of town, were you can visit the old cathedral, or if you prefer just enjoy a cup of tea while watching life go by.
If you like shopping, you can miss the Algarve Forum; it has very good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. The central square of the Shopping is open air, so you get this felling of being outside, while still inside.
Loulé has several events trough out the season, jazz festival, the Mediterranean festival, with international music, foods and drinks, and the most impressive festival is “A Noite Branca” the white night, this event happens in several cities around the world, in different occasions.
The regional crafts fairs in different parts of the old town, will give you chance to find handmade unique things that you thought were not made any more.
Loulé has a great selection of shops, banks, restaurants and art galleries.
The recently renovated market place is where you should go in the morning to get all the fresh vegetable, fish and meat for your holidays.
Also very famous in Loulé area is the gypsy market, it takes places every Saturday morning and you can find all sorts of things.
Also famous for its carnival in February, Loulé also has a summer carnival for the holiday makers.
The town of São Bras de Alportel is a mixture of old and new, you can find the traditional Algarvian house all painted white with the small windows next to a recent house. In the old part of town you will find the cobbled streets criss-crossing each other, but, as you move away from the old part of town you find that all this fades away and the town starts to look more modern.
With a wide verity of choice in restaurants, bars and cafes, São Bras will give you plenty to choose from.
However, this town did not become famous for its bars and restaurants; it became famous for its micro climate, for its lush green vegetations and his amazing views.

Nice Average sized Villa, Not to Big, Not to Small, A Family of 5 stayed here for 3 weeks and it was just the right size. The Villa throughout is very clean and very well maintained. The outdoor poolside area is once again not too big yet not too small. The Pool is cleaned and maintained regularly. The Grounds are very secure with private parking and a large remote-controlled Gate. It also has a Large Garage where you can park the car or instead open up the Side-Shutters and use it to sit Poolside in the Shade. it also has very good lighting outside for if you want to spend the evening/night outside by the pool or maybe have a late night Barbecue which might i add had plenty of. The only Negative issues i have are : the Location, it is a little out of the way of most Amenities and a car is very very essential, another issue is that the Fridge in the kitchen could be a little bigger, maybe the owner could put another fridge in the Garage/Annex as a storage for Drinks/food etc as there did not seem to be much space in the Current fridge to accommodate food and drink for a family of 5, and the final issue is of the Insects, i understand that when you stay in Hot countries you are prone to insects, there seemed to be quite a large abundance of Flies (the swatters gave that away) and also Wasps and Hornets which were frequent visitors but apart from that the stay was enjoyable and well worth a visit. |
