Home description
A traditional white Algarvian villa nestling in the foothills above Faro, with fabulous views from the roof terrace across the stunning countryside to the coast. The villa is a peaceful hideaway to get away for a relaxing holiday, surrounded by olive groves and meadows it is set on a quiet country lane with no through access, so you are never bothered by road or plane noise. The villa is set in its own secluded grounds but the nearest neighbour - the housekeeper - is only 3 mins away. Within a 10 minute leisurely walk there are two little shops selling local produce, a couple of bars and a very good french restaurant serving excellent local and French delicacies with the advantage of a fixed price menu. As our second home, the villa is furnished to a high standard with everything that you would need for the perfect relaxing holiday. The clear crystal waters of the private pool, unusually large for a villa, is surrounded by a paved sun terrace and pretty garden with traditional flowering mediterreanean plants. There is an outdoor barbeque and covered dining area as well as an indoor kitchen-dining room. The villa is set on one floor and is well suited to couples as well as families with children of all ages. There is a lovely roof terrace to sit and and have breakfast or watch the sunset with a well deserved gin and tonic, or a glass of complimentary port whilst looking for shooting stars before bed. This peaceful, quiet location to get away from it all and take time to relax has the advantage of being just 20 minutes from the airport, the coast and local attractions and activities. The villa is a short drive from Faro with its historic centre and marina, Loule and Sao Bras, each with their shops, markets, history and restaurants.
Our managing agent and maid can assist you with any holiday needs you may have or in case of emergency. The agents will check the villa is ready for your arrival, and on your departure. Should you wish, a 'meet and greet' service is available to show you around the villa and its facilities and to introduce you to the area. The maid visits 3-4 times a week, the pool is serviced and cleaned weekly and the garden maintained once a week.

The Algarve region
This part of Portugal just ooozes history. Conquered by the major civilisations, the locality boasts Roman ruins of a villa and baths (Estoi) and many old castles, city walls and museums (Loule). A Moorish principality for hundreds of years (which is where the name Al-garve originates), their influence still persists in the language, architecture, agriculture and cuisine - especially the desserts - and the local pottery. The villa is situated within easy driving distance of many local beaches, towns and resorts on the south coast, including the pretty sleepy Roman fishing port of Tavira to the breathtaking Atlantic cliffs and fort of the Sagres peninsula in the West, to the historic Spanish city of Seville in the East with the perfectly preserved Moorish palace of the Alcazar. The villa is perfectly located as a quiet escape from the madding tourist crowd, but within just 20 minutes from the beachfront and night life if you really want.
Santa Barbara de Nexe / Agostos area
Beaches - numerous within 20mins drive all along the south coast (Faro island beach and fish restaurants, Julia's beach restaurant at Vale de Lobo worth a visit). Nature reserves - all along the South and East coast, beautiful walks and good for bird watching, some with hides. Markets - Loule is the closest and best, open Mon-Sat for fresh fish, meat, fruit, veg, flowers, bread and pastries and local ceramica. Lots of other markets and shops locally. Restaurants - too numerous to mention here most do good local well priced food, fantastic seafood and the famous piri piri and BBQ chicken. There is a map and reviews at the villa showing how to find our favourites. Try the Little French restaurant with its great value fixed price around the corner (tell them in advance if you are vegetarian or want fish), Louis de Frangos in San Bras for the best BBQ chicken at amazingly good prices, and Alagoas in Santa Barbara for amazing seafood. Restaurants range from inexpensive authenthic local fayre to jacket and tie smart and European that will cater for every taste and most dietary needs including vegetarian (especially if you warn them in advance). Most speak some English. Shops - There are local convenience stores within walking distance and a large supermarket in Loule and Faro. The markets are the cheapest and best for the freshest food, with fish caught the same day. 20 mins drive away is Faro with it's historic old town and restaurants, shops, marina, boat and fishing trips. On the villa side of Faro is the shopping mall where you can find high street chic at prices that beat the shops in the UK!
Fantastic golf courses - too numerous to mention. Quinta de Largo, Vale de Lobo, the list is endless... Half and hour's drive away is the water park with water slides for a fun day out for kids of all ages!
How to get there
Fly to Faro - Villa Tamarind is only 20 mins easy drive from the airport. Cheap flights available from national and regional airport in the UK and most of Europe to Faro, both charter and schedule. Car Hire available through all major car hire companies at the airport, or local companies will do meet and greet in the arrivals lounget. Local taxis available at an average cost of Euros 25 each way.
The villa is accessible from Lisbon and Seville, both cities are within an hour and a half's drive.
