The St James Parish region

Barbados is a relatively tiny Island and has something to please everyone. It boasts over 70 miles of glorious, palm fringed, white sand beaches and warm clear waters. Anchorage is located in the heart of the Platinum West Coast, south of Holetown & Sunset Crest and just a few minutes away from one of the best bays on the island -Sandy Lane.

Sandy Lane area

If you are tempted to go out for lunch or dinner you will find a wide range of restaurants just a short distance away offering everything from award wining cuisine to the very casual "no frills" serving good tasty food. The West Coast is a good starting point for exploring the Island with the dramatic North Coast no more than 30 minutes away and the equally dramatic, but different, East Coast just 40 miutes away.

If you are seeking an action packed holiday then this can be eassily realised from the local area with ... Golf...Tennis... Sailing...Fishing...Horse Riding...Wind-Surfing...Diving...Water Skiing... Swimming...all close by.
Anchorage is also well located for any Cricket Internationals at the Kensington Oval

Guestbook for Anchorage

Our holiday? The most relaxing and peaceful holiday, we've concluded, that we've ever taken and, unfortunately, much too short! Barbados is absolutely lovely and Anchorage House is far more beautiful than the pictures could ever show and so welcoming!

My two concerns prior to arrival were most definitely the humidity and mosquitoes. Both were dismissed upon arrival. We had anticipated it to be much more humid than it actually was primarily because Wyoming is such an arid state . We found Barbados to be much more comfortable than our visits to family in Pennsylvania and Ohio where the summer humidity leaves you feeling stifled. And the mosquitos were absent until the last two days but not unbearable at all, (unlike the tiger mosquitos in Tuscany).

Anchorage provided the most comfortable arrangements for true relaxation each morning and evening as we took in it's surrounding beauty kept so perfectly by Geoffrey! The trees and bushes were all in glorious bloom! The variety of palms....so majestic! We loved watching the monkeys each morning and when they visited in the afternoon to take the offering of bananas from the children. I can't forget to mention our admiration of the geckos, hummingbirds, sparrows (?), and beautiful black birds with yellow eyes! What a display to take in while leaving the cares of the world behind! Anchorage is overflowing with beauty and life and we loved it's display of artwork as well!! Beautiful women and Ernesta offered the history behind the paintings which was rewarding to hear.

Ernesta. WE LOVE HER! Tenacious smile, contagious giggle, wonderful cook, and an excellent provider of care! I was nervous at first, being American and not having staff except for a weekly housecleaning lady. Ernesta was kind to allow me in the kitchen the first morning and then I felt at ease to enjoy and take comfort in her provisions. My husband has a great sense of humor and Ernesta did as well as she giggled from his teasing! My daughter begged her to give up Anchorage and go to University with her. You may be reassured that Ernesta, while enticed I'm sure, was thankful for the offer but opted out!

I don't want Geoffrey to be overshadowed with our enamorings of Ernesta. His friendly hellos each morning and patience to answer all of my horticultural questions were always kind and very patient. He does an excellent job in keeping up with landscaping!

The beach was practically our own. We felt so blessed as we took in the ocean's view, the sunsets, and gentle breezes as well as the shading of the palms. The convenience of the cabana was priceless as well as the parking.
I've kept you long enough and must stop myself as I would continue writing about every blessed detail of our weeks stay. Due to circumstances here and what this year holds for us, our stay was extremely short but greatly and deeply appreciated. We met some very hospitable new friends who invited us into their home and shared of Barbados and the fact that a minimum of three weeks visit is required. We agree! While we kept our visit to a small area of the island, our hopes would be to return for a longer stay and to experience the rest of lovely Barbados.
If you have received a favorable report of us from Ernesta and would have us again, we would be honoured to keep Anchorage on our list of favourites, as well as suggest it to those we trust.
Thank you, David, for your patience in correspondence and for sharing your beautiful treasure with us! I'm just sorry that my vocabulary is so lacking in describing our deep enjoyment of Anchorage! God bless you and yours!
LG & Family from Wyoming USA - June 2009

This is our fourth visit to Anchorage and we hope to continue our annual holiday in this idyllic villa. With its amazing inside/outside attraction it creates a wonderful get-away-from-it-all experience.
An added bonus is that all things domestic are taken over by the wonderful Ernesta, whose culinary skills are legendary.
Apart from the glorious beach and cabana facility, it is great fun to watch and deal with beach vendors, some of whom are well known to regular guests at Anchorage and Sandy Lane in general.
Barbados is a beautiful island, with friendly, colourful people. Sunshine everyday and the pleasure of sitting gazing out on the beautiful Caribbean whilst indulging in a sundowner. Later, particularly in Holetown, a wonderful steel band entertains visitors and locals alike. There is so much one can enjoy - Polo, Racing, Theatre, Nature Reserves, Parks, and a very wide range of restaurants. For the more adventurous, sporting pursuits abound.
It would be a shame for anyone visiting Barbados to miss out on a visit to the East Coast. Absolutely stunning scenery - wild shiny sea, rugged and oh, so green coastline.
Whilst three of our visits have been with adults, one was spent in company of three generations. Two of these were young children, who had an abdolutely fabulous time on the beaches, in the nature reserves and last, but not least, in the lovely swimming pool at Anchorage. Mr & Mrs S from Sussex UK - March 2008

"We just got home this morning, and everything was absolultely perfect thank you, we all had a wonderful time and a thoroughly enjoyable week with the kids. Ernesta was great as ever. Many thanks again, and I look forward to future visits to Anchorage." Mr & Mrs H. from UK - April 2008

"Anchorage was everything we had hoped for and more. It was like a dream. From the turn onto Bennet's Road from the main highway I just knew we were entering paradise with all the exotic trees and shrubs on either side of the road. We arrived at Anchorage and beautiful Ernesta welcomed us to Anchorage, showed us around, then gave us cold facecloths and a wonderful rum punch. We were all overwhelmed by so much beauty around us, the house looked exquisite. The colourful paintings were so beautiful. The furniture was gorgeous. We just loved the huge walk in shower in the master bathroom. Lots of closet space. Lots of lovely seating areas both in and out of the house. The garden was spectacular, and the sound of the water in the swimming pool was just so soothing. The bird and animal life sounds added to the exotic beauty of everything. Ernesta cooked us amazing meals, I asked her to make that chicken curry you suggested for the second night we arrived and it was delicious. She also cooked the flying fish, and dolphin for us. Everything was very tasty and well presented. Ernesta was so kind, she was always smiling and made our stay very comfortable. She was a gem. The girls thought the property was absolutely fabulous. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay in your gorgeous home, we were very happy there, in fact we loved it so much - it was difficult to even go out somewhere because we had everything we needed right there.
