Chill Out on the Balcony
About the home
We have just spent over £10,000 revamping the apartment, it is now looking fab, we have lowered the balcony, removed the windows and fitted wall to wall glass sliding doors, the floors match inside and out, giving the inside outside feel.
The apartment is suitable for a honeymoon or those enjoying a second honeymoon, for families or friends holidaying together. It is part of the Both Worlds beachside complex it is on the top floor and has no attached neighbours and is located in the quieter part of Gibraltar.
Both Worlds has its own beach called Sandy Bay, this is a safe beach in the good weather for all, but it has no facilities, Sandy Bay is being reinstated after the terrible storms last winter, so may not be usable until the first week in July... Catalan Bay which is five minute walk away has a pub, bars and eateries for all pockets.
Catalan Bay also has the benefit of a four star hotel, this has two good quality restaurants, plus provides reasonable cost, bar meals. Catalan Bay also has a small grocery store for those forgotten items or a newspaper, so not far to go. In the good weather Catalan Bay has a wonderful safe sandy beach ideal for children and adults alike.
Just a three minute walk away there are buses running every 30 minutes, taking you to the town, once in the town you can get other buses to take you all over the Rock, it is not necessary to hire a car or employ Taxis, as the buses are excellent and free. We reserve the right to alter the apartment, as we see fit.

Weather on the whole is very good, in the summer its fairly hot but with a sea breeze and in winter the days are mostly nice, a bit like a nice summers day in the UK, 21C, you will sometimes have a rainy day in winter but usually the clouds roll back the next day and the sun comes out.
Gibraltar is steeped in history from the Neanderthal People being one of their last strong holds to Nelson some of his seaman were buried in the Trafalgar Cemetery after the Battle of Trafalgar.
St Michaels cave is a joy to walk round with its stalagmite and stalagmites, but one of the best visits I have ever had is to enjoy the opera due to its equisetic, it’s just wonderful.
People say what’s to do in Gibraltar believe me you could spend a month going to all the places and not see everything and then you have Spain just on the doorstep.
Most people speak English although some speak Spanish as well
The Currency is the pound so no changing of money + if you use your British cards most British banks don’t charge due to Gibraltar being a British Colony.
Gibraltar is like the UK was 30 years ago, very safe and hardly any crime. You see the booby's walking around
in the winter with their helmets on and in the summer with shorts, T-shirts and flat caps, but always
very visible.
If you enjoy a drink or a smoke then Gibraltar is the place for you, prices are sometimes as much as four or five times cheaper than the UK!!
Gibraltar is a British Colony and is known as little Britain, it has all the shops you expect to see in a UK high Street, from M&S, British Home Stores, Next, Monsoon and many more, including many of the designer stores. For food we have Morrison’s and Iceland so you can treat yourselves to all your usual food.
The Sandy Bay / Both Worlds area
Most times of the year there is lots going on in Gibraltar, as it is small place people like to enjoy themselves, so they make time to have festivals, fairs, fireworks, concerts, having fun is always on the agenda.
In Casements Square Tourist Board will give you what's on in Gibraltar for the month.
Both Worlds is on the East side of Gibraltar so away from the airport so no noise from the airport.

This is a lovely apartment. Perfect for a family trip as all appliances are on hand, whereas in a hotel you lack cooking and fridge facilities. We particularly loved the view from the balcony, it overlooks the Strait of Gibraltar. You can sit and unwind, watching the ships pass by. Maggie the owner is lovely and easy to get in contact with if any problems arise. My only criticism is that the fridge is in the main bedroom. Probably not suitable for light sleepers. Otherwise a lovely place to hang your head after a long day exploring the sights of Gibraltar, Morocco and/or Spain. Gibraltar itself was brilliant. A must see is the dolphins. We saw lots of stripped dolphins but it is common to see bottlenose and common dolphins as well. I would recommend the dolphin safari aka the blue boat! You get a 10% discount to local restaurants with the dolphin safari ticket. Another must is ascending to the top of the rock via the Cable car. You get sublime views from the top and it is a lovely walk to the attractions (bring your walking boots/shoes), of course you can do the coach tour of the rock but you miss out on things you'd see if you walked it. Moorish Castle, St Michaels Cave, the Great Siege Tunnels are good too. My personal favourite part of the holiday was the Barbary apes, DO NOT feed the apes you could see yourself getting a £500 fine if you are caught, plus it is food that makes the apes aggressive. We didn't feed the apes and they were very content around us, even had an ape sit next to us for half an hour! It was lovely and the kids loved them. |

I booked this apartment because of the view, the lovely balcony with telescope, it was very attractive, when we got there and got onto the balcony however it was completely different, it wouldn't have been a bad thing if we would have known but when we priced rooms up this one was a little bit more expensive than the basic one we had seen before, but the balcony looked so lovely we paid the extra. I was a bit upset about this as I envisaged looking at the stars at night. The apartment itself looked more or less as the pictures and considering the number of guests it aparently gets it was pretty well as expected. There were a few teeny things missing in the kitchen my hubby is a chef so noticed as we needed them, this wasnt a major problem. The water is a pain though there is very little water pressure. The view was amazing from the balcony, I do agree with the reference made below that it is disappointing to not get what you paid for and I have spoken to Maggie who has explained that they were supposed to be doing some development work earlier in the year but it didnt happen which is why they left the pictures the same , thats not really fair to us the other people who booked or new bookers. I will say to people looking for a fair apartment with an ok basic balcony then this is the apartment for you its adequate but in comparison to others dont expect the picture perfect as advertised. If it was me I would have offered discount to all of those I had misled, even future discount would have been an incentive and now at least we would know what to expect. The computer didnt work probably a godsend to be honest and the cable was basic but again better to be out and about. The stairs to the beach were a couple of metres away from the apartment as the ones next door are private it was no mither to go down the outside ones and you got a great view. Gibraltar is amazing and if I ever won the lottery would consider retiring there. The people are friendly and I didnt get pushed to buy anything. I will say take comfy shoes as walking is a must and the town goes on forever. Shop around for rock tours, go with the taxi drivers but watch because some charge more than others. Same with the dolphin tours one set charge 50.00 the other 28.00 for the same number of people. There is a wonderful indoor market as you go into casemates square on the right. And if you go to spain there is a market on a Wed, go over the border and turn right walk for 5 minutes and you will see it. Sunday is their quiet day. If you stay at both worlds walk 10 mins towards the hotel behind it is the most beautiful beach, with all the facilities you could need. I would recommend you purchase a cheap beach umbrella and take it with you the sand gets amazingly hot and can burn your feet in the hot months. The lady who looks after the place for Maggie was nice and offered any help we would need, which was appreciated. I am going to tick yes I would recommend but I would do so with caution and make sure they knew everything about the place first. |
