The Isle of Wight region
The Isle of Wight lies off the South East coast of England and is framed by 60 miles of pictureque coastline with subtropical temperatures. This is the driest area in the country. The island has one of the largest volume of all weather attractions for its square mileage in the UK. There are various events and festivals that take place all year round. These include the largest walkin festival in the UK, the Isle of Wight Rock Festival, the award winning Bestival, Cycling Festival and the well known Garlic Festival.
There are many places of interest to see - the famous Needles and Alum Bay with its coloured sands, Osbourne House - home of Queen Victoria, Carisbrooke Castle where Charles 1 was imprisoned and Godhill with its historic church and plenty of tea rooms plus many more.
Sandown lies on the south east of the island. It still retains its own Pier and Victorian charm with a lovely blue flag award winning beach and bay that stretchers from Yaverland Beach to Shanklin Beach. Sandown is home to the Isle of Wight Zoo and the famous Dinosaur Isle, where you can join groups to go fossil hunting.
There are plenty of shops to browse as well as cafes, restaurants and pubs as well as a lovely park area for both adults and children to enjoy with crazy golf and bowling etc. The Height Leisure Centre is located in Sandown with gym, pools, classes for all ages.
The local train station enables you to take the island train to Ryde and Shanklin. There are plenty of bus routes to get around the island, plus a lovely cliff walk to Shanklin or on the esplanade.
