There are various events and festivals that take place all year round, these include the largest walking festival in the UK, the Isle of Wight Rock Festival, Cycling Festival and the well known Garlic Festival.
There are many place of interest to see, the famous Needles and Alum Bay with its coloured sands, Osbourne House - home of Queen Victoria, Carisbrooke Castle and Godshill with its historic church and plenty of tearooms and many more.
Sandown lies on the south east of the island. It still retains its own Pier and Victorian charm with a lovely beach and bay that stretchers from Yaverland Beach to Shanklin Beach. Sandown is home to the Isle of Wight Zoo and the famous Dinosaur Isle.
There are plenty of shops to browse as well as cafes, restaurants, pubs as well as a lovely park area for adults and children to enjoy, with crazy golf and bowling etc.The Heights Leisure Centre is located in Sandown with gym, swimming pools, classes for all ages. The local train station enables you to take train rides to Shanklin and Ryde.
