A public footpath runs across the field behind the house leading to lovely countryside walks. There are further walks towards the downs of Bembridge and the opposite way to Shanklin, from footpaths close to the beach.
Yaverland beach is a short walk from Hillside Cottage - this is a family beach but is also excellent for wind and kite surfing. Also close-bye is the Isle of Wight Zoo, Dinosaur Museum and Roman Villa.
The Isle of Wight region
The Isle of Wight is truly a beautiful place for holidays. The Island is one of the best places for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over half the Island being designated, covering the south-west and north-west coastal areas, including half the coastline.
The Isle of Wight has a wealth of footpaths and bridleways and is reputed to have more footpaths per square mile than any other English county - from a 60 mile coastal path, to easy circular routes, and short town trails - there are over 500 miles of well maintained paths on an island that measures 23 by 15 miles.
The Island is an ideal place for a cycling holiday offering the cyclist dedicated cycleways - many following the course of disused railway lines, signed routes, miles of bridleways and quiet country lanes as an alternative to busy main roads. If you would like details of the Round the Island cycle route, please call Isle of Wight Tourism 01983 813818 and a route map will be sent out to you.
For the family there are two theme parks (Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill), sandy beaches on the south of the Island, pottery painting and the famous Alum Bay. Enough to keep the most active of families amused for week.
Hillside Cottage is part of the original hamlet of Yaverland with stone and thatched cottages. There is also a medieval Manor House House and 12th Century Church.
The long local beach is just minutes away, Yaverland is near the northern end of the 5-mile stretch that constitutes Sandown Bay, and its golden sands are met by the cliffs of Redcliff, and Culver, the chalk cliff that overlooks the bay. This end of the beach is often quieter, as the main tourist area is Sandown
Also close by is the Zoo, with the Tiger Sanctuary and Dinosaur Museum.

"A perfect property, with a wonderful homely feel"
We couldn't of picked a more suitable property if we tried. Being it was our first visit to the IOW, the house certainly made the stay just as good as the holiday itself. We were both amazed by the quality of the fixtures and fittings, along with the high standard of finish to the house. Carols parents next door are absolutely brilliant and made us feel very welcomed and at no point did we feel that we were being watched over (being that we were staying in their daughters home). Even a small problem of a missing DVD Player was resolved by them lending us theirs for the evening, so the children could watch a film. We certainly have this property marked down as one to visit again and we hope the weather is the same.... Hot and Sunny!!! Although with all of our friends now well aware of the place we may struggle to re-book...hahaha
Thank you for you lovely comments and I am pleased you had a great holiday.

"A delightful home-from-home"
We had a fantastic week in this very well-equipped holiday cottage - absolutely everything has been thought of! It is in a great position, the girls (16 & 18) were able to walk safely into Sandown, visiting the zoo and find the all-important icecreams leaving us to do a section of the Coastal Walk from the house. It is one of the nicest houses we have stayed in, very comfortable and the WiFi was a necessity for teenagers. Eating breakfast and dinner on the deck was a delight but even if the weather hadn't been so kind, eating in would have been just as pleasurable. The photos on the "holidaylettings" site do not do this justice at all!
It was a great pleasure to meet you all, and I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay. I must take some new photos!
