Sandown Bay Holiday Park is located in Yaverland and is easily accessed by car or public transport/taxi. It is approximately 1.5km from Sandown town centre which offers all the usual shops, restaurants/cafe bars and seaside attractions. It is sited within the remains of Yaverland Fort, built during 1863 and remaining in military use during the second world war.
It was sold in 1956 when it became Sandown Bay Holiday Centre. The site is quiet and undeveloped with communal areas of green and instant access to the coastal footpath and National Trust land. There are wonderful walks either way to the sandy beaches towards Sandown Bay or the Monument on Culver Down. On Culver, there is a cafe and pub where you can enjoy a meal whilst taking in the breathtaking panoramic views across the Island, The Solent and the mainland beyond.
Outside, there is a communal grassed area to the front providing a play area for children or a relaxing spot for al-fresco suppers during the long summer evenings!

Enquire nowThe Isle of Wight region
The Isle of Wight is situated approximately 3 miles off the English Southern Coastline. It is known for its breathtaking scenery with much of the Island being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Island first became popular as a holiday destination during Victorian times and its unique charm still entices over 2.5 million visitors each year. It is quite easy to appreciate why the Island attracts so many, with its scenic coastline, award winning golden beaches, charming little villages and temperate climate – in fact the Island can boast more hours of sunshine than most other destinations in Britain. For the more energetic, the Island offers over 500 miles of maintained footpaths and 200 miles of cycle ways, which makes it ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. Bicycles can be hired locally. The Islands towns offer a comprehensive range of shops and amenities including many 'High Street' names together with popular cafes, bars and restaurants - some even being awarded the 'Michelin Star'. All in all the Island is a wonderful holiday destination, catering for all ages and with activities for all interests.
The Sandown / Yaverland area
Sandown became a popular seaside resort back in Victorian times and shares its bay with Shanklin. Pleasant walks along the Esplanade can be enjoyed with views across the fine golden sands of the beaches stretching over the bay to the English Channel beyond. The beach at Sandown Bay holds 'Blue Flag' status offering safe bathing and also being popular for windsurfing and water sports. The cliffs are one of the best places in Britain for dinosaur hunters. Redcliff is made of clay and is continually eroding and changing revealing much of what is buried below. Many dinosaur bones/fossils found here are displayed in the Natural History Museum in London. Sandown also hosts one of the Islands few remaining piers offering amusements, cafe, bar, children’s play areas and designated areas for sea fishing – great for the keen sea angler! In addition, there can also be found the Isle of Wight Zoo (big cat sanctuary), Dinosaur Centre, tennis courts, putting greens, leisure complex, tea rooms and restaurants. At night, Sandown comes to life with a variety of pubs and clubs where you can dance the night away. A great destination for a holiday with so much to do and being a perfect base from which to explore the rest of the Island...

This was a lovely chalet and loved the small touches which made the arrival so much easier. A couple of tea and coffee sachets, the notes about the best way to use heater shower etc. Even down to providing a water bowl for the dog. The location is perfect for walks along the coast road and there are plenty of open spaces for the dog to play. The only thing that would have made the holiday easier is if there had been a small shop on the site. |

The place is alright. Reasonable price. TV is always on. It is in walking distance from Sandown. The negative side is, it lacks of WiFi or Internet and 3G mobile. I had to walk to the beach to get 3G on my Galaxy and laptop or to go to Tesco about 15 minutes away to get free WiFi. Internet is becoming part of everybody's life now, even on holiday, this is something to be prioritised by the owners or travelers. If you don't need internet than this place is good for your holiday. Response: Thank you for your review. I am pleased that 'overall' you liked the accommodation and enjoyed your holiday. On reading your review, it would appear that WiFi and 3G mobile are important to you. I do recall you asking whether this holiday chalet/site offers WiFi at the time of booking your holiday. We did explain, that although this is something that is being looked into, this facility is unfortunately not available at the present time. It perhaps might be a little unfair then to commit the majority of your review to a feature that you knew was not going to be available when you booked the accommodation. The strength of your 3G signal will depend on the coverage offered by your phone network provider and therefore the accommodation can not be at fault for your weak signal. The site offers so many more benefits, like being set at the foot of Culver Down and being only a few moments walk away from the lovely award winning beach at Sandown Bay. Although I do totally agree with you regarding how important WiFi etc. is to people these days (I use it myself), people who holiday here tend to want to escape from their computers in preference to enjoying the lovely beaches and coastal walks this location offers. |
