Dreamer's House (Villa Sognatore) is a true lakefront property located 10km north of Menaggio on the renowned northwest shore of Lake Como. The house positions its guests right on the lake with private access to the water, which is the best place to acquaint oneself with the beauty and tranquility that make Lake Como so unforgettable. The setting is a botanical paradise as well, since the property is surrounded by well-maintained, terracing gardens with mature specimen plants, palm trees and perennials. The property includes 4 stone patios at different heights, and 2 large, covered terraces off the bedrooms and living room facing the lake, all affording breathtaking views of the water and Alps. A scenic 4-km walkway on the lake passes in front of the property, giving the guest access to 2 restaurants and the lakeside village of San Vito to the south, and more restaurants, shops and ferry stops in the charming villages of Pianello and Musso to the north. This walkway is unique on Lake Como in terms of its length and the sweeping, panoramic scenery it showcases. A separated guest house with the 3rd bedroom/WC is included. Famous villas, gardens, sites, restaurants, shopping, golf, transportation links & more are a 10-15 min drive.

In the living room, the wall facing the lake is only windows, with double doors opening to a large terrace with sweeping panoramas. There is a satellite TV system with news/movies/sports in English or Italian, as well as terrestrial TV with mostly Italian channels. A multi-region DVD player (plays codes 1-6) has been added. The middle floor is composed of master and guest bedrooms, both with two single beds that can be combined to form a double-size bed. Each room features large picture windows with lake & mountain views and terrace access. There is a third small room with a small bed and baby crib (the house actually sleeps 7 + 1 baby). The bathroom includes shower, bidet/toilet, and double vanity. Both bedrooms open onto a large middle terrace, where stairs lead down to the lawn and lakefront. Here there is a detached "mini casa" guest house with two single beds and half bath (sink w/cold water only, mirror, toilet) .The mini casa opens onto a large stone patio two meters (6 ft.) from the lake, featuring 4 designer chaise lounge chairs. There are private stairs leading from the stone ledge into the lake (child soft safety fence is optional). The property is entered by an electronic gate that leads down into a covered car port with one space reserved for the house (additional parking available on street above). From there stairs lead down through gardens to a stone patio with table and benches suitable for barbecuing with a magnificent view over the flat roof of the house of lake, mountains, surrounding specimen plants and rock garden (parts of garden are owned by neighbors). The properties on the left and right of the house are vacation houses NOT rented by their owners. Children are welcome, and the house is baby-equipped with high chair, crib, tub, and linens.
|Further details outdoors|
Do not be fooled by "waterfront" & "lakefront" descriptors on so many holiday rental adverts, which are not really directly on the lake front - The Dreamers' House is the genuine article. Lake Como ends in our front yard. There are 300sqm of mature gardens with palm and specimen trees and flowering shrubs, perennials and annuals. The neighbours gardens are immediately adjoining our gardens, so the effect is a botanical paradise. Outdoor furniture, including a set of designer chairs/table, sun chaise lounges, tables and stone picnic benches and chairs are located throughout. The property is entered through an electronic gate and from there park in the single space provided in the carport. A buoy for boats has been added and can be rented for an additional 100 euros/week. The buoy is directly in front of the house in the lake, reachable by inflatable craft (provided).
50% of rental amount (euros or $) is due via bank transfer to confirm reservation and block calendar dates. The other 50% is due no later than 45 days prior to arrival. Full refund if cancellation is 45 or more days prior to arrival. No refund if within the 45 days. 350 euro security deposit required, and returned one week after departure.
The Lake Como region
Tourists have been coming to Lake Como for over 2000 years for its sheer natural beauty and elegance. Each guest is sent a detailed Useful Information document and Dining Guide after a deposit is made for a reservation.
After more than 10 years of home ownership on Lake Como, we recommend some our favourite things to do:
- The Greenway del Lago di Como is an 11-km long type of nature trail extending from Griante (just south of Menaggio) to Colonno. We have just walked half of it and are happy to say it is a very needed and well organized activity. The path is very well marked and winds along the lakeside, through neighborhoods, pass some famous sites with stupendous vistas of the lake and mountains. It is - to our knowledge - the longest continuous recreational area on Lake Como. Perfect for hikers, nature lovers and for those who wish to discover the lake area on foot.
- Take the batello/slow cruise boat from Menaggio for 2.5 hours all the way down to Como, and take the speed boat back to Menaggio. The most spectacular parts of Lake Como are the wonderful villas built over the centuries, perched on the lakeshore, covered in vegetation with wonderful gardens. The best views of the villa's are from the lake, whereas it is hard to glimpse anything from the small lakeside road.
- Take the car up to Breglia and hike up a further 500 meters up to Rifuggio Menaggio for panoramic views over the central lake.
- Visit the "famous" villas with their accompanying gardens: Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Villas Cipressi & Monastero in Varenna, Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, Villa Balbianello near Lenno, Villa Olmo in Como, and many more.
- Rent a powerboat by the hour/day/week, cruise down into the central lake area, stop the engine in the middle of the lake, and swim in refreshing blue water. After your swim, dock the boat at any number of lakeside restaurants for a leisurely, 2-hour + Italian lunch, then return to the boat for an afternoon cruise
- Have lunch/dinner at the Lido di Lenno and swim from the sandy beach. Visit the new Lido di Menaggio, with restaurant, beach, pool, disco and garden
- Find a great little cafe in one of the little lakeside villages, order a frothy cappucino and sit there with your newspaper or magazine for hours!
- Workout at the excellent Palestra/Gym that belongs to the Villa Serbelloni Hotel in Bellagio
- Take a day trip/ski trip for 1 hr 40 min. by car through a beautiful mountain pass to St. Moritz and its surrounding lakes. The other major ski resort nearest the lake is Madesimo.
- Book a seaplane tour of Lake Como (or two other lakes) with the Como Seaplane club, the only seaplane airport in Europe.
- Shop in Como, Milan or the 160-store strong Foxtown outlet mall in Mendrisio, Switzerland (Up to 40% off luxury goods from prior years).
- Take a day trip to splendid Lugano, a mere 25 km from Menaggio.
Cremia is approximately 10 km from Menaggio, which is one of the poshest resorts in the renowned Central Lake area, with ferry, boat, and bus connections to the entire area. One ferry stop from Menaggio are both Bellagio and Varenna, two jewels of the central lake area, and further on are Villa Carlotta, Lenno and Argegno and Como itself. North of Cremia and the central lake are the more rural tourist regions of the lake. Cremia/Menaggio are approximately 1 hr. 40 minutes from St. Moritz and 30 minutes from Lugano in Switzerland. Other Northern Italian cities of culture including Bergamo (2 hours), Verona (2.75 hours) and Venice (3.5 hours) can be managed as day trips. World class shopping for luxury goods can be done in Como (50 minutes) or Milan (1.5 hours).

"Fantastic location with spectacular views"
The villa has everything you need for a fabulous holiday. The views are breathtaking and there are many attractions within easy reach. Nearby Menaggio is a great base, where you can catch a boat to Como town, and a trip to Fox Town is a must for shoppers.

"An oasis on Lario"
We stayed for five days and loved the whole thing. The location is fantastic and the views ....spectacular. One can be busy seeing sites or not. This well appointed home has everything you need and the owners are helpful and prompt. This property provided a lovely respite from our trip on the trains through Switzerland and Italy

We had a wonderful stay at the Dreamer's House! The house is located not far from beautiful Menaggio. From there, you can take a ferry which will take you everywhere you want on the Lake. From the house, you have an outsanding view on the lake in which you can dive whenever you feel like it. After a 10 minutes walk on your left, you will find a nice café for your moring cappucino, a grocery store and a bakery. After 5 minutes walk on your right, you have two fantastic restaurants on the lake. Everything is very convenient, the house is easy to live in and the owners are extremely nice. I highly recommend this villa in which we had a very warm and sunny week last June.

"Tranquil and Beautiful"
This house is a very special place, firstly the views from all the windows, terraces and outdoor areas are amazing. Secondly, having the lake at the bottom of the garden was incredible, the children swam in it every opportunity they had, fed the ducks and swans and perfected the art rock skimming across the water. The location of the house provided so much for the children to explore and was so relaxing and beautiful the adults could lose hours. Our travel group was two families which included 3 children. The house easily accommodated the seven of us. The house itself is clean, function and well equipped with everything you need. Lake Como is a wonderful place to visit and for us the Dreamer's House made our time in Lake Como even better. We were all sad leave and have every intention of returning. In fact our 10 year daughters are planning to have their 20th birthday at the house, I hope we don't need to wait that long.

"The Dreamers' House is the perfect Lake Como experience."
My wife and I spent three weeks at the Dreamers' House with our daughter, son-in-law and their three children in July 2013. It was perfect for us in every way. The house is right on the lake at Cremia which allowed us to swim whenever we so desired. Also, there are good beach and cafe/restaurant facilities within walking distance. The accommodation is well planned and thoughfully set up allowing full access to the amazing views over the lake. It was one of the highlights of our ten-week Italian holiday.

"Great House - directly at the Lake!"
It was a wonderful week in this beautiful house, directly at the "magic" Lake Como. Just sitting at the balcony, or downstairs, directly at the seaside, relaxing, reading, looking to what happens at the lake, was simply great! Exotic plants, friendly people, a wonderful atmosphere all around the lake. One day, we rent a motor boat - and drove very fast at the see (this is possible without having a driver license in Italy!) Menaggio is a beautiful town, and there are so many beautiful places to visit around the lake, that you don't have the time to visit them all in one or two weeks. Back in Berlin, this holiday is a resting memory - and the beautiful photos we took help to remember. Maybe we come back one of the next years. If yes, sure we will be again at Dreamer's House!

"Do you want to be in Italy, on a lake, on the water, staring at mountains?"
Then this is the place to rent. We had two couples, and you can't get much better than this! You can sit on the deck and eat dinner "al fresco", watch tour boats, swans. ducks, wind surfers, sailboats, all sorts of interesting things go by! We did swim in the lake, even though the water was not 70 degrees in the middle of June! But you cannot compare this location to any others unless they are truly on the water. The only negative I heard was grousing when we had to carry heavy suitcases up and down the 47 steps to the parking area. But hey... we knew we were not back in Texas! The Dolomites off in the not too distant distance were spectacular to see! So if you have problems with steps, this is not your place to rent. If you are more concerned about seeing the vistas afforded by being ON a spectacular lake in northern Italy, in a very comfortable house, then this rental is a no brainer!

We loved the Dreamers' House! It was such a privilege to stay at such a beautiful and well equipped place that felt like home. My husband and I were travelling with our 3 sons (ages 16, 14 and 10) and this home was ideal for us. My sister and husband also came for a couple of days and really enjoyed the separate guest suite. It accommodated our large group easily and comfortably. The beds were so comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The grassy area by the water was a huge bonus for us as our boys enjoyed playing ball outside. They also loved jumping into the water so close to the house. We enjoyed watching them from the patio with a bottle of wine. :-) Tim and Corrina were so great to work with. I added 2 nights to our stay on 2 different occasions (also very last minute) and they immediately communicated with us and handled everything so efficiently. We really enjoyed the location of the home. It was great to be able to walk to the Pizzeria down the boardwalk and also La Baia Ristorante. It is also located far enough away from the busy road that we never heard traffic. It was so peaceful we never wanted to go to sleep. Exploring the little nearby villages was so much fun and it was easy to go anywhere on Lake Como via the ferry in Mennaggio . This place was "A Dream" and we will never forget it. The memories that we brought home with us are so dear to our hearts. Thanks Tim and Corrina!

"Wonderful lakeside location with accommodation just as described."
Dreamer's House was a perfect base for a great holiday on Lake Como. The house was spotless, well equipped and with wonderful views. Access from the road was steep, but we quickly realised the need to reverse into the parking space and drive out - not the other way around. The key agent was helpful and we found our way around without problem. The local amenities were good. We enjoyed meals at Lumin and especially La Baia. Shops do all close at lunch and Sundays, so wise to plan ahead as we found ourselves stuck on a couple of occasions without bread or supplies for a night or lunch in. We would certainly stay again.

"beautiful views tired property"
Proximity to the lake was perfect. The entrance to the property from the road was tricky and parking space was very tight. The property details were misleading. The garden space is mainly vertical. 2 full bathrooms were shower rooms . The bedrooms were very basic and disappointing. The third bedroom was windowless. The views over the lake were sensational but the outside furniture was old and eating on the balcony was a little cramped especially as the table could no longer be extended.
Unfortunately, this guest broke parts of our refrigerator, and denied it when confronted. We had to hold back a small amount of the security deposit and now the guest has sought to exact revenge via TripAdvisor. To be fully transparent during our entire 8 years of renting our property, we have always provided each guest with over 100+ pictures and videos of our property before they book with us, so all details are known in advance, e.g. all sleeping rooms do have windows (the guest's claim is factually wrong), the two main bathrooms have showers and no tubs, the property is built on a hillside, but the lakefront garden is flat, and all bedrooms are clearly shown. So "misleading property details" is not something we would agree with.
