The Puglia region
Puglia could almost be described as the area that time has passed by. Hundreds of miles of open countryside filled with Olive groves and just about every other fruit tree bulging with fresh fruit and every acre of ground full of fresh produce.
From small hamlets, to small villages, to small towns, to larger towns and cities, each unique with its own personal history and traditions, each claiming to supply the freshest and most mouth watering food imaginable, when in fact they are all supplying local delicacies unique to that particular village or town.
The sea coast with plenty of bays and beaches attracts everyone to the water which is warm, crystal clear and unspoilt, drive to find a spot you like, park up, grab your cool box and beach 'toys' then walk through the nearest dune or track and wow the Adriatic Sea - beautiful.
With so many historic, picturesque or just quaint places to see within easy reach of your holiday home it would be difficult to say which you 'MUST' see.
San Vito dei Normanni
Many day trips are possible :
Alberobello, Cisternino, Locorotondo : The trulli-area, see the wonderful 'trulli scrumptious houses' find out their history?
Fasano, Matera (to see how people lived and still live in caves cut into the hillside, Ostuni (fantastic when its lit up a night) Mesagne, Lecce, (at the end of the 'Appian' way and known as the Venice of the south) all depict southern italy and its people who are lovely.
Our town San Vito De Normanni :It is said that our own Saint Vito defeated the Normans and sent them packing. Brinidisi the bigger sister is full of shops and amenities and its great port with its direct ferry crossing to Greece, is steeped in history and in ancient times is where every Army crossed to battle in the Crusades.
You could even take the 4 hour drive, stay overnight and visit Pompeii the buried and ruined Roman City located near Naples.
Puglia, is steeped in a veritable kaleidoscope of history and traditions. Over hundreds of years it has been invaded many times and each time a little culture and tradition has been left behind, which in turn has created such a diverse and beautiful legacy for us all to enjoy today.

"Relaxing retreat in Villa Serena with nice pool"
Villa Serena is a well equipped villa with a lovely pool and garden in a quiet area outside of San Vito. Good base for exploration and trying out restaurants in surrounding villages. Many thanks to Ray who met us at San Vito as its a little tricky to find the house first time. The nice Italian neighbour called in and brought us a giant bowl of fruit after we arrived. The local Italian bin system is unusual with four bin days a week locally..... You have to recycle/filter the rubbish. If you are looking for a holiday away from everything then Villa Serena is the place to be.

"A truly beautiful introduction to Italy"
For a first time traveller to Italy, I couldn't have had a more magical introduction. Pugila itself is a beautiful area of Italy and Casa Del Sole is a short drive from Brindisi airport so very quickly you can be enjoying this stunning villa. Having travelled with my other half and staying with friends in the villa, it proved to be perfect for a group or a family. There is plenty of space indoors and out. The outdoor space comprises of a fabulous pool, so swim, cool down after a session in the sun or just to laze on the steps and read your book. The pool is also lit at night so some late night swimming and star gazing is a must. For those lazy lunches or relaxed evening meals cooked on the bbq or in the outdoor pizza oven, a large verandah offers some welcome shade from the heat of the day. The local town of San Vito Dei Normanni comes alive in the morning until around half past twelve and then goes to sleep for the afternoon and then wakes up again at around half past four when all the shops open again. The town is full of rustic charm with plenty of market stalls where you can get the most beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables at very good prices. There are lots of supermarkets, again at great prices, making self catering easy. If you wish to go out for a meal, there are some fabulous restaurants within a short drive. Caravigno is a must to visit in the evening for its restaurant and simply the beauty of the town. With the coast and superb beaches within a short drive, I couldn't have asked for anything else. I highly recommend Casa Del Sole.

"Rural Italy at its Best"
This area of Italy is truly beautiful. The weather was hot and the skies clear and blue. Casa del Sole is a fantastic base to locate yourself in. It is within easy reach of both the Adriatic and Ionian coasts. The land is typical rural Italy with olive and almond trees in abundance. The sound of crickets permeates the air. The villa is nicely decorated with all of the amenities that you would expect to find in self catering accommodation. There is an outside seating area under the verandah which is a welcome respite from the sun during the day and the perfect wall free room in the evening. The villa has a barbecue and a pizza oven which are great fun for al fresco dining. The pool is awesome. Large enough for proper lap swimming but deep enough for a bit of diving in. The is a brilliant stepped entry area that doubles as a submerged sunbed for book reading or cocktail drinking. The local town of San Vito dei Normanni has a number of wonderful restaurants, a few small shady piazzas and number of nice coffee shops for those morning or evening strolls. There a a few supermarkets within easy reach for those essential items. A car being the only way to get around. This is my second stay at the villa and I have to admit I was too lazy to write a review last time. I came back again and have to confess that I will be back again. There is so much still to explore and the host who welcomed us made us feel really special the second time around. This is the REAL Italy, away from the traditional tourist trail and all the more beautiful because of it!

"The perfect family base to explore Puglia"
Very well equipped, villa for a young family, with the perfect sized pool for toddlers learning to swim. Quiet, private and modest, surrounded by orchards and vineyards of neighbouring properties, we loved the barbecue, outdoor pizza oven and all the alfresco dining. Would have been very tricky to find, but that wasn't an issue as we were met by Ray at a meeting point and followed him there. Once you know the way, it's easy! And the welcome pack was very much appreciated - so nice to arrive to a full fridge, many thanks. Centro storico of San Vito was a pleasant surprise, too, with cobbled pedestrian streets, cathedral, bars and cafes, and off the the tourist trail. Close enough to Ostuni, Otranto, Martina Franca etc. to take an evening drive for the passegiatta there. Particularly enjoyed the trulli at Alberobello.

"Most enjoyable holiday in a long time"
What a wonderful place I was unsure before going as never had been to the area before and was worried as the last time I went abroad and rented a villa it was not like the pictures advertised, but I needn't have worried Serena was just stunning I can honestly say the pictures don't do it full justice. It has every thing you could need and more and I spent many a day relaxing by the pool in the beautiful surroundings lost in my book while the kids played in the pool and many an evening enjoying eating outside taking in the beauty of it all. The local area is lovely and so are the people, the whole experience was second to none I will sure be booking to go again next year if not before if I get the chance !!!
