The welcome never runs out.
Your vacation at Gilligans Hideaway can be as relaxing or as busy as you like. We called it Gilligans coz originally, just like the television theme song, there were No Phones No Lights and No Motor Cars, not a single luxury, as primitive as can be..., however things have progressed a lot since then to Solar and wind powered lights and refrigeration, a solar hot water system, fans beside the beds for your comfort, cell phone and limited internet coverage and satellite television,…..but still no motor cars!
The 3 bedroom home is a simple timber home with a basic beach house feel. Don’t worry about getting a little sand on the floors inside. It’s easy to clean. Gilligans has 2 new bathrooms and a new kitchen. There is a large lounge and dining area with unique furniture. The facilities are clean and comfortable. You'll probably spend most of your time on the front veranda, our beachfront bar, or our popular Cabana looking out to the stunning views of the pristine beach and the blue waters of the marine park area, or you can enjoy a few beers or cold drinks as you relax. Its very quiet here! Very few neighbours, and they won't bother you, they work for us.
The rooms are quite airy and usually cool as we are beside the sea. The rooms have mosquito screens and mosquito nets are provided for each bed.
You are welcome to do your own cooking or enjoy the basic Filipino home style cooking of our caretakers wife Estrellia. She will gladly prepare basic meals for you. For those who prefer western style food, Marilyn the cook at our other home will prepare meals to your liking. Our caretakers are happy to shop for you as Gilligans is away from the main stores.
A laundry service is also available.
Please show the staff suitable consideration for their assistance. We're sure they'll go out of their way to make your stay a wonderful experience. Our staff are there to asist you and will take care of the property but you'll need to pay them if they are working for you.
Bring your favourite CDs or MP3 players to play through our sound system. There's nothing like cold drinks, good music and beautiful weather to enhance your holiday. We have a small music library and a few books for you to enjoy. Take something to read with you. We have a few board games for your entertaimnent. We have a satelite TV system, however television in the Philippines doesn't have much variety. We rarely watch TV at Gilligans.

There's no night life near Gilligans..... but you could use your imagination or watch the sun as it sets, or try some star gazing, listening to music, playing our guitar, reading, board games, walk along the beach, surround your selves with candles on the patio, We are an environmentally conscious family using solar panels and a wind generator to provide power for our refrigeration, low voltage lighting and limited television viewing. There is no town power, so use our solar lights for your late night reading and activities or we have a generator to backup our solar and wind powered system if you want to burn the midnight oil. If you want to run the generators for long periods you'll need to pay for some extra diesel to cover the costs.
We have Information and Frequently Asked Questions sheets available for email, once you are interested in making a booking. Please ask for this and we'll send it shortly after the request is received. Our booking request sheet will also be sent and we'll need this returned with a deposit for us to confirm your booking.
Further details outdoors:
The emphasis is on relaxation at Gilligans Hideout. . Our small paddle boats and several kayaks are included as part of the house rental. Additional charges apply for use of the motorised boats.
Island hopping, swimming, skinny dipping (not mandatory), boating, fishing, tours to the nearby waterfalls, bush walks, Bar-B-Ques on uninhabited islands, are just to name a few of the possible activities. You can often hear wild monkeys in the trees when you walk along the beach. Alvin called it Monkey Town, but lately the monkeys have been shy. If you ask, he'll even cut some coconuts so you can drink fresh juice. It’s so refreshing! Try it with Malibu liquer!
Drinking cocktails or cold beer, eating fresh seafood, sleeping, reading, relaxing, and walks along the beach are some other popular pastimes. There are always new treasures being washed up onto the beach such as shells, starfish and driftwood. Explore!
We have to employ additional staff for manning the larger boats for safety, and no one wants to carry the ice boxes and crates of beer etc. when they are on holidays, so it’s better to employ a helper. You can live like a King in Philippines on a small budget, so enjoy the experience, and let someone else do the work, beside you'll meet some very nice appreciative local people, and learn a little about their culture. Local wages are cheap here and you can hire a helper from around 3 GBP or $5 US per day

The Palawan region

Palawan is well known to Filipinos as being the undeveloped, unspoiled Paradise of their Country. Port Barton is located a scenic 4 hour boat trip south of the well known El Nido famous for its Resorts and Magnificent Cliff Faces which plunge into its Crystal Clear waters and 2 hours North of Sabang and the famous Underground River of the Philippines. We can arrange transport to El Nido and the Underground River.
Port Barton is well known as a Holiday Destination in Palawan and from here you have access to a hundreds islands of the west coast of Palawan.

The San Vicente / Port Barton area
Activities to entertain guests are many and some have previously been mentioned. We have a few small paddle boats and some kayaks for guests and 2 larger boats for island hopping and fishing etc. Other activities include Island Bar B Que trips, overnight camping on Islands, Fishing, Boating Swimming, Waterfall Hikes (there are several impressive falls nearby) and day trips to the Underground River or overnight stays at El Nido. Occasaionally there are events in Port Barton town centre at night, ( but don't pack your disco clothes coz there's not a lot on at night other than Fiestas and Town Dance nights (mainly Ballrom and Latin) or you can safely walk the Beach or streets at night or in the afternoons you may do some bar hopping to see whats going on in the village while you enjoy the often stunning sunsets.
There are some real Characters here at times. We find getting out into the water on a boat is one of the most rewarding activities here, and the waters and islands are truly beautiful. Swimmings great to cool you off on hot days or use the shower we've attached to the tree on the beach to wash the salty water off as you relax in the cabana or on one of our several hammocks. Time slows down in Port Barton, you'll forget about work, and you'll be astounded by the beauty of the scenery and sunsets.

Guestbook for Gilligans Hideaway Guest House
Thank you so much for the fabulous vacation!! I adored the staff and Gilligans was absolutely off the charts!! Everyday I would sit on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the water while figuring out what I wanted to do (or not do) that day. Alvin (caretaker) would bring me fresh coconuts from the trees and cut them open so I could mix my coctails with the juice, when I wanted to go snorkling, he would take me out to a reef, if I needed groceries/beer/anything he would appear with it and if I wanted to be left alone to enjoy the private beach, I was alone. I work a lot and when it is time for vacation, I want to relax without worry or stress and this vacation far exceeded my expectations. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was well taken care of and even though the location of Gilligans is way off the beaten path, I never felt like I was isolated or couldn't get what I needed or wanted. Mal, please feel free to give my name and my email address to anyone that would like a reference or has questions and I am happy to correspond or talk with them. OK... Summing up Gilligans, Hard to leave and impossible to forget! I will be back again hopefully in January.

"We stayed for one week at Gilligan's in the beginning of november 2009 as a part of our honeymoon. Our intention was to find a beatiful place for relaxing, which has not been artificialy changed for tourists. Our expectations have been largely excelled. If you go to Gilligan's you will find much more than only a beatiful, calm and natural place:
The Beach: You really feel like Gilligan or Robinson Crusoe when relaxing on the beatifull white sand or swimming in the sea. There are almost no people there, only a lot of funny little crabs crawling on the beach. Perfect for relaxing!
The Island: A beautifull island with lots of natural sightseeing possibilities, such as animal watching (birds, monkeys, sea life), forest trails, waterfall, caves, corals etc.
The Accomodation: A huge house fully equipped with everything that you need. Beautifull wooden furniture, a huge beatifull terrace and the location could not be better. Even a TV and a MP3 player with loudspeakers at the terrace is available. Especially the eco-friendliness is to emphasize here: the house is equipped with a photovoltaic cell and a small rainwater processing plant.
The Caretakers: Lovely people, who care very much about you. They have the perfect sensitiveness for the mix between letting you alone for relaxing, planning some activities for you or anticipating your every wish. Everything is at your option. You will be brought to every place that you want, they buy for you what you need, clean the house and show you some really beatifull hidden places.
Snorkeling and Island hopping: A must-do there. Let the caretakers show you the beatifull corals with lots of colourfull sea life. Go snorkeling and enjoy many different islands during island hopping!
and last but not least:
The Owners: We had the luck to get to know Michelle and Malcolm, the owners of the Gilligan's hideaway. They were at the same time in the Villa Marguerita in Port Barton (10 minutes by boat). Very friendly and lovely people who also anticipate your every wish!
Our conclusion of this week is: we will come back again! We had a great time with a perfect mix from activities and relaxing. We also enjoyed the lovely people and also the price for everything is more than fair! Thank you for that great week! "

Gilligans has 3 bedrooms is best suited for up to 6 persons but we can place an extra bed or beds for those who don't mind a few extra people around. We recently installed a small solar powered hot water system, but we can't promise hot showers for large groups, and if it's rainy.....boil the kettle...
The weekly package tariff covers the rental of the home, housekeeping, basic Breakfasts for up to 6 persons, an Island Hopping adventure for up to 6 persons including a Beach Barbecue lunch, ( Not applicable for short term stays under 5 days ). Additional charges apply for Breakfasts and Island Hopping for extra guests over 6 persons. Larger groups should consult with our office for pricing.
Price also includes use of paddle boats, kayaks, hammocks, sun loungers, cabanas etc, and our assistant or a driver meeting you at the airport if you require this. Transport from Puerto Princessa to Port Barton is not included. Approximate one way prices for transport to Port Barton in Philippines Pesos are P 300 for the Jeepney, or P4500 for the 7 seater private airconditioned shuttle van or P 4000 for our old windows down 4X4 island car Nissan Pathfinder utility which seats 4 passengers.
Rent prices for short term stays under 7 days are charged at GBP 85 per day or $ 130 USD.
Additional day trips on the water can be negotiated with the staff. Approximate cost for a day trip island hopping and a lunch for up to 6 persons is Pesos 2000 ( around $50 )
If you are happy with the services of our staff, they will gratefully accept gratuities. A laundry service is available for a small extra charge and clothes dryer is available. There are 3 staff at Gilligans. We suggest that a tip of 500 Pesos each ( around $12 ) would be the minimum that you should consider. They will not ask for a tip but will be very appreciative of your help. Please remember that the rental does not cover our staff working for you apart from basic housekeeping and preparation of breakfasts and the Island hopping day trip, so you should tip them if you have requested extra services or if you find their service exceptional
