Home description

Your vacation at " Gilligans" will be relaxing from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. We called it Gilligans coz originally there were No Phones No Lights and No Motor Cars...like the television theme song, however things have progressed a little to Solar and wind powered lights and refrigeration, cell phone coverage but still no motor cars! It's a short boat trip from the very popular Port Barton and is the sister home of Villa Marguerita ( listing 19168 ). Island hopping, swimming, skinny dipping ( not mandatory ), boating, fishing, waterfalls, bush walks, Bar-B-Ques on uninhabited islands, are just to name a few of the possible activities.

Beer drinking, eating fresh seafood, sleeping, reading, relaxing,and walks along the beach are some other popular passtimes. Our caretakers Alvin and his wife Australia are available to assist you with your needs where possible and if requested. A laundry and cooking service is available from our caretakers of 11 years. You are welcome to do your own cooking or enjoy the basic Filipino home style cooking from Australia.

The Visayas / Palawan region

Palawan is well known to Filipinos as being the undeveloped, unspoiled Paradise of their Country. Port Barton is located a scenic 4 hour boat trip south of the well known El Nido famous for its Resorts and Magnificent Cliff Faces which plunge into its Crystal Clear waters and 2 hours North of Sabang and the Famous Underground River of the Philippines.

Port Barton is well known as a Holiday Destination in Palawan and from here you have access to hundreds of Islands of the West Coast of Palawan.

Fishing, Diving, Sightseeing, Butterfly and Bird watching, nature walks and a variety of other local activities are available to visitors such as Cock Fighting. Foundation day celebrations from January 28 to 30 is a great time to visit the Port Barton Area.

San Vicente / Port Barton area

Activities to entertain guests are many and some have previously been mentioned. We have a few small boats for island hopping and fishing etc. We have a " Just for Fun " 8 hole golf course on our 2 acres. On the last hole you can smack a few balls out to sea for the kids to fetch. They'll bring them back to you for a few pesos. Other activities include Island Hopping, Camping overnight on Islands, Fishing, Boating Swimming, Waterfall Hikes ( several falls nearby ) and day trips to Underground River or overnight stays at El Nido. For a some more activities you can spend some time in nearby Port Barton for some Karaoke at night ( but don't pack your disco clothes coz there's not a lot on at night other than Fiestas and Town Dance nights ( mainly Ballrom and Latin ) or you can safely walk the Beach or streets at night or in the afternoons you may do some bar hopping to see whats going on in the village while you enjoy the often stunning sunsets. Our sister home in Port Barton also has a Motor Bike, Pool, Table Tennis and several bicycles for you to use if the home is not booked.

There are some real Characters here at times. We find getting out into the water on a boat is one of the most rewarding activities here, and the waters and islands are truly beautiful. Swimmings great to cool you off on hot days or try the shower we've attached to the tree on the beach.

How to get there

Palawan is a one hour domestic flight from Manila airport or a pleasant overnight trip on the Super Ferry. We find Air Philippines to have the most competetive prices. Our assistant in Puerto Princessa is happy to assist guests to arrange for the payment of domestic tickets, as most airlines won't accept telephone payments.

The trip to Port Barton takes around 3 hours, and Nao Nao beach house is a short boat trip from our sister home at Port Barton.

The daily jeepney from Puerto Princessa to Port Barton leaves around 10 AM every day and costs only Php 200 per person whilst a 4x4 airconditioned shuttle Van can be organised for a direct trip from the airport to Port Barton.

Air conditioned shuttle vans charge around Php 5,000 or around GBP 60. Approximate prices can be emailed however travel in the Philippines is relatively inexpensive.

The trip to Port Barton follows the coastline for a while and then crosses the island. The road close to Port Barton is renowned for being difficult to traverse, but the trip is worth while.

Monkeys and native animals can be seen along the scenic route which travels north over Palawans beautiful mountains and beside its fantastic coastline.

The 3 bedroom home is a simple timber construction with a basic beach house. It has 2 clean bathrooms. You can arrange your own meals or our caretaker Australia will gladly prepare basic meals for you. Our caretakers are happy to assist you to purchase food items as Nao Nao is in a remote area. Please show them suitable considerations for their assistance. Home rental does not cover staff wages. The staff will be available to assist you if required however you will be expected to pay them for their services.

Remember this home is in a remote area of the Philippines but the facilities are clean and comfortable. You'll probably spend most of your time on the front veranda looking out to the stunning views of the pristine beach and the deep blue waters of the marine park area, or you can enjoy a few beers or cold drinks as you relax. Its very quiet here! Very few neighbours.

There's no night life in Nao Nao..... only star gazing, listening to music or enjoying our small solar powered Satelite Television. We are an environmentally conscious family using solar panels and a wind generator to provide power for our refrigeration, low voltage lighting and limited television viewing. There is no town power, so use our solar lights for your late night reading and activities or we have a diesel powered generator to backup our solar and wind powered generators if you want to burn the midnight oil.

The rooms are quite airy and usually cool as we are beside the sea. Bring you favourite CDs or MP3 players to play through our sound system. There's nothing like cold drinks, good music and beautiful weather to enhance your holiday. We have Information and Frequently Asked Questions sheets available for email, once you are interested in making a booking. Please ask for this and we'll send it shortly after the request is received.

Further details outdoors:
You can have access to our bicycles, pool table, table tennis at our sister home in Port Barton and our small paddle boat as part of the house rental. Additional charges apply for use of the motorised boats. Our Yamaha 125 motor bike is also available for rent and a deposit may be requested to cover any breakages.

We have to employ additional staff for manning the larger boats for safety. Of course no one wants to carry the ice boxes and crates of beer etc. when they are on holidays, so its better to employ a helper.

You can live like a King in Philippines on a small budget, so enjoy the experience, and let someone else do the work, beside you'll meet some very nice appreciative local people, and learn a little about their culture.

Please check the availability calendar on this web site. We keep it up to date at all times. A package can be arranged to cover the whole trip including being met at the airport, transport from Puerto Princessa Airport to Port Barton and Nao Nao, boat hire, meals if you don't want to cook, and ( almost ) any other incidentals you may be interested in. It will be cheaper however to arrange these thing once you arrive at our home.

Local drinks are cheap here but please slip the caretaker a tip if you want him to carry the beer cases and load the fridges. ( It's a dirty job, but someones gotta do it ) Local wages are cheap here and you can hire a helper from around 3 GBP per day so you can live like a king if you want.

We always hire a cook, and laundry woman whilst we are there so we can relax and enjoy our time without the worries of cooking and cleaning. Our staff are trust worthy and very helpful. Payments can be made by direct bank deposit to our account in Philippines or by Visa and Mastercard through our Brisbane office. Additional charges apply for credit card payments.

Conditions

Contact and bookings are made through our office in Brisbane Australia where we live when we're not in Philippines.

Strictly no smoking in the bedrooms, as a courtesy to the next guests, but you can smoke like a chimney outside the home.

Breakages are expected to be paid for should any damage be caused to our property.

25% of rental fee due four weeks before your stay to secure booking and the balance payable upon or prior to arrival. A cancellation fee will apply should the booking be cancelled with less than one weeks notice.

A long term rental will be considered and can be negotiated if required. Our staff are available to assist you if necessary however we expect you to pay them for their services if they are working for you.

Payments can be made by direct bank deposit to our account in Philippines or by Visa and Mastercard through our Brisbane office. An additional charge of 6% will apply for credit card payments to cover costs and international money transfers.

The tariff covers the rental of the home, use of the non-motorised bikes, paddle boat etc, and our caretaker meeting you at the airport and assisting you to our home.

Fares for the local jeepney ( Peso 280 or the 7 seater private shuttle bus Pesos 5,000 approx, are not included).

Rent prices for short term stays under 7 days are charged at GBP 40 per day ( until May 2009 ).

Longer term rentals over 21 days will receive a 10% discount, whilst rentals over 3 months will receive a 20% discount.

We would like to encourage our clients to feel at home here and establish relationships with the locals as we have done. This creates a rewarding experience for all. You may enjoy haggling prices with the local seafood or vegetable vendors that will call from time to time with fresh produce.

Our caretakers are available to assist in many ways, however you are expected to pay for their services if they are working for you. You'll find that they can help you with cooking, room cleaning, buying groceries, boating, tour guide, carrying ice boxes and provisions for island hopping adventures, day trips to waterfalls etc. Peso 220 per day for each person is a fair days pay ( around 3 GBP. ) Please make your own private arrangements to pay our staff should you make use of their services.

The home rental does not include wages for helpers that you may choose to employ. If you are happy with the services of our staff, they will gratefully accept gratuities.

Thank you so much for the fabulous vacation!! I adored the staff and Gilligans was absolutely off the charts!! Everyday I would sit on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the water while figuring out what I wanted to do (or not do) that day. Alvin (caretaker) would bring me fresh coconuts from the trees and cut them open so I could mix my coctails with the juice, when I wanted to go snorkling, he would take me out to a reef, if I needed groceries/beer/anything he would appear with it and if I wanted to be left alone to enjoy the private beach, I was alone. I work a lot and when it is time for vacation, I want to relax without worry or stress and this vacation far exceeded my expectations. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was well taken care of and even though the location of Gilligans is way off the beaten path, I never felt like I was isolated or couldn't get what I needed or wanted. Summing up Gilligans, Hard to leave and impossible to forget! I will be back again hopefully in January.
