The Sardinia region

The north east coast of Sardinia is richly populated with small islands, some of them surrounded by natural environment and with lots of history. The Tavolara archipelago situated opposite Porto Taverna a (Natural Marine Park) is a protected area and offer to visitors an uncontaminated marine environment and is rich in natural wonders. During the summer period there will be open air cinema shows. You can visit the Tavolara archipelago by organised boat trips.

A very short distance away is the Figarolo island (Golfo Aranci) renowned for its beautiful deep sea scapes which makes an irresistible attraction for scubadivers!

A little bit towards the north we will find the islands of Soffi, Mortorio e Mortoriotto which are jewels and near the very - popular - with - the - VIPs - Costa Smeralda.

Finally the archipelago of La Maddalena...this too is a protected area and natural park, which has a number of islands of different sizes. The beautiful "Spiaggia Rosa" (pink beach) and Spargi are found there, together with the fascinating Caprera history, with the Giuseppe Garibaldi museum and his REAL house perfectly preserved with lots of historical items. This is open to the public.

San Teodoro

In The territory of the Barbagia, in central-eastern Sardinia, immersed in the spectacular Supramonte, surrounded by thick forests and splendid oleanders, we find the most imposing natural abyss of Italy and of Europe: the Gole of Su Gorroppu also called the Big Canyon of Europe. This is one of the more charming and impressive symbols of the Gennargentu mountains. The enormous vertical walls surpass 400 metres in height. The gorge is a very deep one, made of calcified rock, sculpted by the force of the Rio Flumineddu over millions of years, between the Supramonte of Orgosolo and Urzulei; the river carries on beyond the gorge, spreading out into little lakes, then going towards the Dorgali Valley, where it feeds others streams.

Sardinia can be considered the largest open air museum in the world, with its 7000 nuraghi, the mysterious stone constructions that for their architectural peculiarity can be compared to the pyramids, found in all of the territory, the largest group going back to the times of the Dolmen - the graves of the giants, the sacred wells, the Domus de Janas (houses carved in the rocks) - all typical of the nuragic settlements make Sardinia unique in the world.

The geological nature of the territory, the climatic conditions and the geographic arrangement contribute to give Sardinia an exclusive and characteristic appearance. Whoever arrives in Sardinia for the first time has the feeling of being "transported" to another world, composed of infinite spaces and majestic landscapes. Being completely surrounded by the sea, Sardinia is indeed a virtually unique land. The island, due to its insular conditions and its historical events, is one of the areas of the Mediterranean in which the national traditions have been virtually untouched by outside influences. It has a heritage of folk culture that has its roots in a mysterious and archaic past. Think of the glamour of the domus de janas, the origin of the nuraghi, the giants tombs and the mysterious menhirs of the bronze age. All this is accompanied by a traditional ethnic music, poetry and literature in Sardinian language.
