The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Between the Alps and the Padana plain, Lake Como is characterized by a big variety of landscapes and settlements.
The lake is surely the prominent asset in the whole area; 46km long, 146 km surface area, 410 mt its deepest point and it is 200mt over the sea. The only island on the lake is Isola Comacina, a small strip of land with an interesting past. It borders the province of Milano on the south, the province of Lecco on the east and the province of Varese and Switzerland on the southwest. It is surrounded by high mountains (the highest one is Monte Legnone 2609 mt.), big valleys and sweet slopes.
It is characterized by big cities and small tiny villages stacked up the rocky slopes overlooking the lake. The lake offers great scopes both lovers of the mountains and lovers of the water sports; sailing, wind-surf, canoe but even quite pathways through the valleys and trekking up to higher grounds.
The mild climate in winter times and the sweet breeze in summertime, the lush nature, the blooming periods and the fall’s colours make the lake an ideal destination all over the seasons.
San Siro area
S.Siro is approx 5 km west of Menaggio and is well known for its historic hamlet of S.Maria Rezzonico with the castle and the church. Enough to do for youngsters day and night! Who likes hiking or mountain biking, the easy going up slopes take you to meadows, woods, passing waterfalls, forgotten hamlets, here and there a church.
It is possible to visit the neighbourhood beautiful villas and museums, nice botanic gardens. In the summertime; interesting events, concerts, painting exhibitions, fireworks and more.
