Home description
Casetta Bijou has been named so not by chance but as it really looks like a house Emily Bronte would describe in her books. The idea of the owners was to furnish the house in the most comfortable and cosy way, so that, once entered, guests can enjoy from every floor the superb view of the lake and the quiet that this independent house can provide. From the main street ten easy and comfortable steps lead you to Casetta Bijou which is made of two floors. On the ground floor you will be welcomed by a cosy kitchen, fully equipped with the latest dishwasher, washing machine, fridge+ refrigerator and oven literally new (the house has been never inhabited). Moreover, also on this floor, a satellite TV and a small bathroom. On the first floor you enter the bedroom with a double bed and a proper bathroom with shower; on the second you can find what is the real gem of this house: a big balcony from which you can enjoy a unique view of the lake. Here you’ll have a ‘close up’ on mountains and clouds and trees, at your disposal from the two single beds placed in this room or even a nice breakfast out, as you are enjoying the view on comfortable chairs. And if you don’t feel like to have breakfast on the balcony, you can have it in the garden, furnished with deckchairs, table and barbecue. Parking is nearby and it will take you less than 10 minutes to arrive at the lake and the beach through a narrow, pedestrian alley really close to the house.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Lake Como, the most beautiful of all the Italian lakes, the deepest in Europe, is 50 km long. It is surrounded by Mediterranean bushes and snowy alpine peaks. Its charm comes both from the small fishing villages on the shore and from the surrounding mountains. The villages have shores, harbours and water sport areas for water skiing, windsurfing and sailing, the valleys are good for walking, hiking, mountain biking. If you love skiing in winter the slopes of St Moritz, San Bernardino, Madesimo, Gotthard are within an easy reach. Menaggio has the oldest golf course in Italy (founded in 1907) which is situated on a high plateau from where there is a spectacular view. Lake Como for centuries attracted visitors, statesmen, artists and writers, and its openness to “VIP” has recently been confirmed by the presence almost all year around, of George Clooney, Donatella Versace, Elton John, Madonna just to say some names. But if you are not into VIP-watching, don’t worry, the relax-lovers can enjoy the recommended excursions to Como ( 35 km), Milan (80 km), and Lugano ( 35 km) and the shop-aholics will soon love the designer fashion factory outlets near Como and the Swiss border. If you are curious and like lingering in the sun, you can choose between a visit to the traditional museum with a collection of over 100 boats in Pianello Del Lario, and a car ride to stunning villas like Villa del Balbianello, Villa Melzi, and Villa Serbelloni. Every season is worth a visit, because the climate is mild. Springtime starts in April, May and June are warm. In July the temperature reaches 25-30 degrees, but there is always a lovely breeze, la Breva, a must for surfers and sailing boats. September and October are much loved too and winters are usually cold but bright with lot of sunshine.
San Siro / Localita Santa Maria area
Rezzonico is probably the most photographed village on Lake Como. It is built on a rock, with winding cobbled streets descending to the beach and is dominated by a beautiful castle dating back to the year 1000. It is situated on the sunny western shore of Lake of Como near Menaggio and Como. Along the shores you can still find secluded beaches. The village is very quiet, but it has supermarket, bank, pharmacy and trattorie where you can taste lake fish (lavarello, alborelle, and misoltini). In the bay of Rezzonico in summer there are lots of surfers, sailing boats and swimmers. The water is clear and a lovely breeze comes up in the afternoon, a surfers’ paradise! For mountain lovers there are walks through small and sunny villages. The surroundings are very quiet and picturesque. Its location is ideal for day trips by ferry to the other shore of the lake (Bellagio) and by car to nearby small lakeside towns and villages. You can easily reach Lugano in Switzerland (20 miles) and the world known ski resort St. Moritz (about 60 miles). For extensive shopping and night life Menaggio is nearby.

Guestbook for Casetta Bijou
Hi Lucia, We really enjoyed the Casetta Bijou. The view of the Lake is spectacular and the garden is a real asset. We had most of our meals outside and barbecued on three evenings. Although we enjoyed Tremezzo last year and visited a couple of times this year, my wife especially enjoyed staying in a "real" village rather than a resort this year. Thanks once again, John Summer 2008
Our holiday at Cassetta Bijou on Lake Como was wonderful: the house is superb and we particularly enjoyed the views of the Lake from the house and garden. We used the facilities in the kitchen to prepare and cook several meals as well as using the barbecue outside, we found everything that we needed. There were plenty of plates and cups/glasses and the dishwasher was very easy to operate. The welcome on arrival was really good, especially the tour of the house and the food and wine. Everyone we met was very friendly and the people at the shop were very helpful too. The price for the accommodation was very reasonable in comparison with other properties that we had enquired about. We have wonderful memories of our vacation on Lake Como. The chimes of the church clock were wonderful to wake up to. Each day there was at least one storm and they were spectacular. You are so fortunate to live in such a superb environment and we would love to return one day. Arriverderci, Andrea and Richard Vincent. Summer 2008
dear lucia, we enjoyed our vacancies at lake como - espacially in casetta bijou - very much. the little house with it´s phantastic view over the lake was perfect for us. in every corner of the house we felt, that the owners, best greatings from us, love their little bijou, every detail was perfect. with the best wishes dirk Summer 2008
Dear Lucia,
I am pleased to send some comments about Casetta Bijou. The greeting by the owners was very welcoming. The house itself was lovely, very clean and well equipped with a fantastic view of the lake. Lake Como is very beautiful and Casetta Bijou is very well placed for exploring the lake and undertaking a host of activities, swimming, walking, cycling and boat trips on the lake, but at the same time it is also quiet and restful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and look forward to returning.
I hope that is okay.
We do hope to return to Lake Como next year.
Regards, Chris White Summer 2009
