The Lombardy / Lake Como Area region

The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.

Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.

It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.

All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquility and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.

Warming, inspiring and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto
narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.

The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).

The San Siro area

From the central western shore village of San Siro with its historical charm and peaceful setting guests are ideally situated with modern amenities including supermarkets, cafes, bars and a bus service. Central lake activities include hiking, cycling, swimming, water sports, kayaking, sailing, power boat hire, tennis and golf.

The nearby resort town of Menaggio is a beautiful place to spend the day with an idyllic promenade, cafe-lined piazzas, a wide range of shops, a family friendly Lido with swimming pools, sandy beach and volley ball, a children’s park and a car and passenger ferry service.

The ferry takes visitors to the other famous ‘golden triangle’ towns where visitors can explore the romantic medieval streets, Villa Monastero and Castello di Vezio in Varenna and the shopping arcade, charming cobbled streets and Villa Melzi gardens in Bellagio. Extreme sport centres are located on the Bellagio hillside and a local Ski resort is situated above Varenna.

The Menaggio ferry also takes guests the short journey to the Tremezzina shore where many pretty walks, cafes and restaurants can be enjoyed and also to Como city which is to the south of Lake Como and which boasts a wide range of cosmopolitan delights!

Lake Lugano is also within easy reach of San Siro and is well worth exploring during your stay, with nature reserves, incredible vistas and the stunning Swiss city of Lugano to explore.

San Siro (formally Santa Maria Rezzonico) - situated in one of the best spots on Lake Como, where the scenery of the lake and the mountains is something really special - a place where you can relax and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the lake. There is a secluded lane in Rezzonico which stands out as the quintessential Lago di Como path. Entirely residential except for the Ristorante Lauro located about a third of the way down, the stone work of the walls and the patina of the cobbles exhibited the kind of character that only time can create and the love of people who live there can maintain.

Santa Maria di Rezzonico (as it was formally known) is a small town dominated by the remains of the Casrtello della Torre, a little more than 200 meters above the waters edge, of which remain only the foundations of the wall and a 14th century crenellated Tower.

Making a Booking

To make a confirmed booking, you will be asked to fill in our online booking form and pay a 30% deposit by wire transfer or credit card. The remaining holiday balance will then be due 6 weeks before arrival.
