About this location
The Marche region
LE MARCHE REGION is rich in culture: it is the place of birth of the Romantic poet Giacomo Leopardi (Recanati) and of the Renaissance genius Raffaello (Urbino).
It is rich in history: you can visit large cities but also fascinating hilltop medieval villages, and the art towns of Ascoli Piceno and Urbino, and find artifacts and ruins left by Gauls, Piceni and Romans.
It offers beautiful views of the landscape: sandy beaches but also rock beaches, palm-lined broadwalk (San Benedetto del Tronto) and not far from it the hill country and the Apennines Mountains - with their snowcapped peaks.
All these ingredients create a great and wonderful patchwork!
ASCOLI PICENO is surrounded by the National Park of Sibillini Mountains and the National Park of Laga Mountains, although it is located a few kilometers far from the Adriatic sea.
It was founded by Piceni, conquered by Romans, and it is rich in medieval culture.
Also nowdays you can walk in its narrow streets, visit its ancient Churches, and made a jump in the past during the first week of August, when the carousel of “Quintana” is celebrated (a Renaissance revival during which riders try to win a Palio).
Places ofparticular interst are the Palace of Capitani del Popolo, located in People Square, the Duomo of Sant'Emidio, and the Loggia of Merchants.
You can't leave without tasting the most famous dish: olives, stuffed with meat, breaded and fried!
This area is also rich in truffles!
SAN SAVINO AREA is ideal to visit small and suggestive medieval villages, such as Offida, Acquaviva and Ripatransone, places rich in history, folk traditions –also tied to the gastronomy- and culture.
It is set in the rolling hills between the Adriatic coast and the National Park of Sibillini mountains; the area is perfect for vineyards and olive trees, that's why it offers wines and oil of excellent quality.
The town is also very close to the coast, which you can easily reach in about 10 minutes.
The nearest ski resort is Monte Piselli (National Park of Laga Mountains) - 40 minutes by car.
A number of fashion outlets, including Prada's, Tod's and Hugo Boss's, are just 40 minutes away by car (Casette d'Ete).
