The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture…

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its 'Green Lung' is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism.

The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…

The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable!

The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or 'cheese throwing'. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.

For 'townie' days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…

This is Olde Worlde Italy

San Romano in Garfagnana

The location is 10 minutes north of the market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana with its famous Thursday morning market, numerous bars & restaurants. Closer to home, the village of Villetta a 5 min walk away and has a restaurant, bar and a few local shops. The train station is a 5/10 minute walk. The Golf Course of Garfagnana is only a 5 min drive (6 holes) and the lake of Pontecosi too.

The fully walled mediaeval city of Lucca is an hour or so away, and is a great day out, full of sightseeing opportunities, restaurants, architecture, shopping, opera, and cycling around the walls. Pisa with its airport, and of course famous for its Duomo and Tower is a 90 mindrive, and Florence with its wealth of history and art is 1 hr 40 mins.

The beautiful mediaeval town of Barga is a 25 min drive, and is lovely to visit, with its cathedral, cobbled streets, great views, outdoor music, and wealth of restaurants. The National Parks of the Garfagnana, and the local ancient fortress (great for picnics!) are only a short drive away, as is the zip wire course through the trees and of course there are numerous hilltop villages to visit very locally...

There is a small but beautiful 6 hole golf course less than a 5 minute drive away

"Really Nice Villa and had a lovely stay"

Hag a great family holiday here with our two grown up kids. We took both apartments and they were able to have their own living area and be relatively independent.
The villa is well away from the road and had good views from the upper deck.
The gardens and the pool were lovely but the pool needed heating up. I'm not sure if the heating wasn't working or didn't have heating.
The owners were very nice but didn't speak any English and my Italian was similar.

Definitely recommend it for a real getaway holiday and well located for exploring Tuscany.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you had a great time! There is no pool heating but it isnt usually required. Unfortunately we had the coolest July for 100 yrs so it was a bit chilly - usually it is a welcome relief! For the advice of future guests, do note that the owners English is very very limited but we are always on hand to translate or assist by phone if required.
