Liguria is pressed between sea and mountains and its roads are not straight or plain.

you do not need to be a Schumacher but expect a lot of turns...plus the Italian driving, which sometimes can be little bit aggressive but never dangerous!!! not for Italians at least!

If you want to taste good, fresh, organic and seasonal vegetables the owner has got two big vegetables garden with plenty of fruits and veggies and they can be purchased depending on the availability.

You'll have an outside space where you can have your meals or just relaxing reading a book or looking at the view.

This will be just for your own use.

Bear in mind this flat is part of a villa and the big garden is at the use of the owners of the villa.you'll see them passing by but they will never enter your space or your flat. They will have to pass in front of the kitchen window during the day.In the evening it will be extremely rare anyway.

At the owner discretion, in the evening you may be able to sit and having your meal under a massive olive tree, enjoying the Mediterranean style and the sea view

The North West Italy region

The flat is located in San Remo, a costal town in the west coast of Italy, close to the French border.

Beaches are easily reachable by car:in SAn Remo you can find sand beaches,

If you rather prefer stones or rocky beaches than you'll need to drive towards Ospedaletti e Bordighera

If you like the mountains , the Alpi Marittime are litterally around the corner with beautiful landscapes and hiking for all sort of persons:from easy and quite flat strolls to more difficult hiking.

Sanremo has got many things to visit : remember that you are in Italy and even though you won't visit immense and astonishing beauty like in Rome, FLorence or Venice, still you will find peculiar wonder.

One of these is the ancient town which is called La Pigna:it is the typical ligurian medieval village.

You won't find this sort of structure and location anywhere (I have added few pics but you can find more online)

Take a 3 hours to wonder around and to get lost in its carrugi, typical narrow lanes of the old ligurian villages.

In SAnremo there is a Russian church and Villa Nobel: yes! the very same of the Nobel Prize!!

Around as well are nice medieval villages like Dolceaqua, Baiardo(with breathtaking view on the Alps), wonderful Apricale and Bussana Vecchia, little village destroyed by an earthquake at the beginning of the century and now offering nice little artistic shops.

The city of Imperia may surprise you well with an impressive piece of extravaganza:Villa Grock, built by the famous clown at the beginning of the last century, will astonish you.(this as well you can google).

Nearby, in Bordighera, You can find Villa Margherita, Palace of the queen Margherita di Savoia (apparently PIzza Margherita was named after her). Bordighera is famous as well for a small museum which you may find interesting to visit: Museo Bicknell.

If you like gardens , Sir Thomas Hanbury, after all his trips around the world, settled near Ventimiglia, very close to the French border, planting and growing all the plants he found around the world:walking around this garden may please you well and you may find a lot of plants growing only in tropical countries far from Italy.

The city of Genova is 2 hours maximum driving , with its peculiar historical centre considered one of the best in Italy. Genova has got the most completed Museum of oriental art, especially Japanese, in the World (you can google Museo Chiossone to find wonderful comments on it). Genova has not got a history of tourism, which is pity as it has a lot to offer to curious tourists and if you look closely it will surprise in many different ways.

Remember that Genova was one of the Repubbliche Marinare with Amalfi, PIsa and VEnice. Genova was the rival of Venice and many times their ships fought along the Mediterranean Sea for the supremacy.

Not far from Genova is the outstanding Portofino, with its beautiful villas, owners of which are many billionaires. For Portofino you'll need to drive longer, 2.5/3 hours and be prepared to spend a lot of money for parking or even just for a coffee in its beautiful square, admiring the most expensive boats you can imagine.

If you do not want to drive too far ,On the French side Monaco and Nice are really easy to reach. But if you want to drive further you may as well reach Saint Tropez driving around 3 hours:please do not miss Port Grimaud which is between St Martin and ST Tropez. If you like perfumes and you want to know more about their production Grass shouldn't be too far, but this excursions, as for St Tropez may take up to 3 hours driving.

Literally on the border you can find a little piece of pre historical history:le Grotte dei Balzi Rossi offer a nice glance at the beginning of human history.

if you like the caverns le Grotte di Toirano (1 hour driving) may suit you

.

In the area who'll be able to find other activities like golf (there is the Sanremo Golf club not too far) or, for more adventurer tourists, canyoning can something different...although I know only French agencies offer this kind of service (they do excursions in the Italian territory as well, near Sanremo)

As you can see ,it will be difficult to get bored as there are many different things you can do:you just need to decide what you want to do and the opportunities are just there, available for you

The best months to visit my region are from May to September included.

Whether you like the sun, the beach, the mountain, the snow, the history, the mushrooms, the wines you will be able to find all of these!

Just take your time and do not rush around:if you have good eyes you can find amazing spots and you' ll return back home with memories which last forever.

San Remo

You want to come to Italy so you have to taste the Italian style.

Of course shopping is a temptation too strong to be avoided.

SO be careful to your credit cards.

A part from shopping and fashion Italy is famous for its food so I will list a names of restaurants which we usually go to as good quality, fair prices and good costumer service.

Before anything else you will need to have what we call L'Aperitivo.

You may better know it as Tapas, but this is Spanish and you will find the Italian Aperitivo is more than just a drink a few crisps:is a piece of art.

Usually l'Aperitivo starts from 6.30 and can continue till late night but it was born as a way for friends to gather after work but before the dinner and to have just half /one hour of relaxing talk.

You will find good Aperitivi in

Victory Morgana ( http://www.victorymorganabay.it/home.asp) Corso Trento Trieste

this is an amazing venue:it is a lounge bar and an amazing restaurant with a good quality and fair prices.

for the Aperitivo you can choose from a beer to a drink or a glass of wine and you will be given the opportunity to choose food from a quite reach buffet.

Cafe du Centre da PIetro Via XX Settembre n 16, SAnremo

this is a really nice bar with a peculiar atmosphere and music with outdoor and indoor tables

Vino Panino Corso MOmbello 56

This is a wonderful wine bar;the venue is really relaxing with top quality wines and food. Because of this expect to pay more than a normal bar.

If you are looking for good quality and willing to pay extra money than this is a place for you.

You can get light meals as well

You may find other wine bars or simply bars:those three ar the one I know better as are the one I use to go when I am back in Sanremo.

As per restaurant:

Victory MOrgana Corso Trento Trieste (http://www.victorymorganabay.it/home.asp)

As said before this is a really nice venue with good food and good prices

Il Camelot, via Montà

with the atmosphere of an Osteria, you will be able to eat what we call an home made meal

Restaurant and Pizzeria

Ai Quattro Amici Via XX settembre 28

Good restaurant with a menu which does not include any main courses but only starters and meat dishes.

Pizza are just wonderful and here you will find a huge variety of them.

Deserts are not to be missed!

Molo H (or Akka) Porto Sole ( in front of the H pier)http://www.facebook.com/pages/Molo-H/116182345123439

this is a nice restaurant which offers good food and good pizzas as well.

Desserts as well are wonderful.

You can either choose it for a light lunch, for a good aperitif or for a evening meal (for the evenings please check beforehand)

"Beautifully compact, stunningly scenic!"

After a challenge to find and some very steep roads, its worth the journey when you get to look out across the bay of San Remo and across a sparkling sea. The view is stunning and never gets tiresome.
The apartment has three spacious rooms to enable you to cook/eat, sleep comfortably and enjoy the comforts of a very well finished bathroom - similar to a quality hotel standard. With the added bonus that the entrance has electric security gates and sufficient parking, this is great holiday accomodation for a couple. Sarah (the owner) has her sister and brother-in-law close-by to help with any queries but also provides a comprehensive folder of info. San Remo is busy and bustling, especially the roads, but a beautiful coastline, with a long, flat cycle path running 25k from San Remo, great sea swimming, free parking after 7/8pm in most car-parks and lots of good shops and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Its also a great base to nip-back over into France to visit Monte-Carlo/Nice which are all a short drive away on the non-toll roads.
Definitely recommended, 99% positive, the only negative was the rather steep road upto the apartment. if you have a large car (ours a Volvo v50), then its hard going. We suggest not turning at the restaurant but carrying on to the tight right bend at the top of the hill as although you need 2 goes at making the corner, atleast the gradient is manageable. oh, and the house numbers dont run in order either - google maps before hand - an absolute must!!! Still worth it though when you get there!
