The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Malaga, its coastal resorts and Andalucian villages offer year round sun and a chance to take a break from the dull winters of northern Europe. If the sun is out you can even sunbathe at christmas which is quite novel!
Malaga City has both a major port and busy airport which brings in lots and lots of preople who are attracted by the large number of festivals throughout the year.
Malaga has some amazing architecture, the famous Picasso Musuem and some of the best beaches which stretch for over 80km are in the Malaga province. It also offers great entertainment, restaurants and shopping with much cheaper prices than other places in the Costa Del Sol.
San Pedro de Alcantara area
San Pedro de Alcantara was once a small Spanish village surrounded by countryside. It is just a few minutes from Puerto Banus and not very far from Marbella. It is a busy town with lots of restaurants, shopping and great people. The main focal point of the town is the Church in the main square. Another major attraction is the fair (feria) which many people from surrounding areas to celebrate.
There are a varitety of bars, restaurants, tapas bars and shops all around the town for you to check out. Many restaurants offer multilingual menus and terrace dining allowing diners to eat outside during the late evening in pleasant temperatures.
Along the beachfront at San Pedro is the beach restaurant Bora Bora made famous by clients such as the late Princess Diana and last summer Bruce Willis was apparently spotted having a spot of lunch.
It is recommended that you have a wonder around the town (be sure to remember that siesta time is 13.30 / 14.00 until 16.00 / 17.00).
How to get there
Easily accessible from either Malaga or Gibraltar airports and about a 45 minute drive from either. Cheap flights from:
www.flymonarch.com www.easyjet.com www.britishairways.com www.ryanair.com (Heathrow, Luton and Gatwick)
Car hire is available at both airports. We recommend Arrow Car Hire (part of crown) or Leamington Cars.
