The Costa del Sol region


The Costa del Sol or quite literally ' the Sun Coast' is exactly that - With the Costa del Sol weather giving average annual temperatures of 18ºC and over 300 days of sunshine per year it isn't difficult to understand why it is one of Europe's top holiday destinations.
There are around 70 Costa del Sol golf courses on the "Costa del Golf" which can be played all year round as well as a whole range of other activities available such as sailing, scuba diving, horse riding, dolphin safaris, etc. The list is endless.
Away from the coast there are numerous excursions into the real Spain with the cities of Ronda, Seville, Cordoba and Granada all accessible for day tours. For the more adventurous you can also take a 15km trip across the Straits of Gibraltar to visit Tangier in Morocco.
The San Pedro de Alcantara / San Pedro Playa area
San Pedro: is a very comfortable walk from the apartment. An ancient farming community, famous for growing sugar cane, today San Pedro is unspoilt and still traditionally Spanish.
The main street of San Pedro is Marques del Duero, which boasts many banks and shops, including a pedestrianized street, where you can find ice cream stalls and small bars.
San Pedro is home to various fiestas, but the main one is the fair in October. The streets are lined with fairground stalls and rides.
The beach front of San Pedro is a very short walk from the apartment. Here you can find many beach bars and restaurants.
Puerto Banus: The dazzling marina of Puerto Banus with its luxury yachts, trendy restaurants and bars, is a magnet for visitors to the Costa del Sol.
Around the port are a string of café’s, bars and restaurants and a string of boutiques and gift shops. While restaurants of the quayside are the places to be seen, you’ll sometimes get better value from the small restaurants tucked away up flights of stairs on the back streets. A great place for spotting celebrities.
At night the smart restaurants, trendy bars and clubs are filled with people.
The street market is in Puerto Banus, near the bullring, starts early in the morning until 2 in the afternoon.
Marbella: is one of the ritziest resorts on the Costa del Sol. The playground of the rich and famous.
The town’s attractions include a thriving commercial centre, the coastal promenade, beach and yacht harbour and the Casco Antiguo (old town).
A must is the ‘plaza de Los Naranjos’ (orange square) in the old town. Cross over the main road from the beachside to find the picturesque maize of streets, pretty squares and whitewashed buildings. A delightful area to browse the shops. This is a popular place to enjoy a drink or eat al fresco, in a vibrant atmosphere.

"We arrived at the La Gavia penthouse in San Pedro de Alcantara not knowing what to expect as it was our first time renting an apartment like this but we need not have worried - we found a fantastic duplex apartment waiting for us with huge rooms, two large balconies, including one on the roof, and a nice shared pool area safe for children to play in and grown ups to relax and sunbathe beside. The apartment was walking distance from the beach and some nice seafood restaurants, but more importantly only 5 minutes drive from the shops, nightlife and fantastic beaches of Puerto Banus. So from a location point of view it could not have been better, as we spent daytimes on the beach, an hour chilling out by the pool and then headed back to Puerto Banus for evenings of mixing it with the rich and famous... All in all a fantastic apartment in a great location, which we would highly recommend."
