The La Palma region

La Palma is effectively a nature reserve, unspoilt by the mass tourism which has blighted some of the other canary islands. There are contrasts of volcanic lunar landscapes, subtropical rain forests, large conifer woodlands, rugged coastal cliff scenery and cultivated areas with an abundance of picturesque towns and villages many of them with colonial connections. Villa Miranda is ideally located as a base from which you can explore all of these areas.
Your villa is set in the valley of Las Brenas near the small town of San Pedro. This is one of the prettiest areas of the island with its lush vegetation and panoramic views over the bay of Santa Cruz and the mountains to the rear (including the highest mountain of the island).
The San Pedro, La Palma / Brena Alta area
Your villa is accessed down a quiet country lane in the hamlet of Miranda. This ensures you will have complete privacy and tranquility. You will be living among local people and be able to enjoy the relaxed pace of the island with its frequent fiestas and celebrations. Each of the local villages has its own programme of festivals and events.
Walking is one of the main attractions of the island and walking routes are well marked and signposted. A number of local walks pass close to the villa.
San Pedro is a short drive away (or a 20 minute walk) with its restaurants, bars, shops and cafes.
The capital Santa Cruz with its colonial buildings, pedestranised cobble streets and maritime parade is only a 20 minute drive away. So too is the beach resort of Los Cancajos with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.
A pleasant 45 minute drive through mountain scenery and tunnels will take you to explore the other side of the island.

There is currently only one direct flight to the island each week from the UK. This is with ThomsonFly and operates from Manchester and Gatwick. It is possible to get to the island indirectly via Tenerife or Gran Canaria using frequent internal flights. The owner will be happy to adviise on these and arrange flights.
We would recommend a local car hire company, Alma Turist, which will mean you will avoid queues on arrival and they will escort you to the villa. The owner can provide you with the hire rates and arrange a booking.
