Home description

Casa Ambra is a first floor apartment within the Borgo di Bucciano that provides comfortable and versatile accommodation with a bright, tastefully furnished interior. It has been newly refurbished and combines traditional materials, such as chestnut beams and terracotta flooring, with modern kitchen and bathroom fittings.

The first floor entrance lobby opens onto the main living area with sofa, dining table for 4 people, TV and corner kitchen. A short flight of stairs leads to a mezzanine floor with sofa bed which can be used as an optional additional bedroom for 2 people.

The main living area also leads directly to a bathroom with shower, and to the two bedrooms (one double and one twin) which have views over the hills towards the south-west.

The rental price includes all heating, hot water and towels/linen, with a washing machine also provided. There is no landline telephone, but mobile phone coverage is strong. Guests have unlimited access to the grounds of the Borgo, including shared use of a panoramically positioned swimming pool located on the hillside.

The Tuscany region

The setting of some of the most renowned natural and artistic beauty spots in Europe, and the birthplace of many of the greatest minds of genius that the world has known, Tuscany has for centuries held a position of primacy as a destination for those seeking to enrich their cultural awareness.

In more recent times, the idea of spending a holiday in a historic borgo or farmhouse, surrounded by Tuscany’s unmistakeable landscape of rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, has become an alluring dream for discerning travellers. This is invariably a home-from-home in which to relax, swim in the pool and enjoy the natural setting, the climate, the exquisite local food and wines, but also a base to explore the immense wealth of attractions that Tuscany has to offer. These range from the major cities of art including Florence, Pisa and Siena to the countless smaller cities and towns with their own unique heritage such as Lucca, Arezzo, Cortona and San Gimignano; from the mountains, cultivated hillsides and vineyards of the inland areas, including the Valle del Chianti, the Alpi Apuane and the Maremma, to the wide beaches, coves and headlands of the coast.

In a nutshell, Tuscany offers refinement in everything, with a richness and quality to satisfy both the spirit and the senses.

San Miniato area

Borgo di Bucciano is a restored hamlet dating from the 12th century that was once a cardinal’s residence. Arrived at by ascending a winding, cypress-lined drive it enjoys a panoramic high hilltop position overlooking a classic Tuscan landscape of olives, cypress trees and dense woodland.

The immediate area is centred upon San Miniato (8 km from the Borgo), a fascinating medieval town on a hilltop overlooking the lower Arno valley and dating back to 783, when the Lombard’s founded a chapel that formed the core of the settlement’s development. The town’s strategic position placed it firmly on the route of armies, merchants and pilgrims alike (it is also on the Via Francigena, the main medieval route between northern Europe and Rome) and gave it an importance and wealth that can still be seen in the palaces, churches and other historic buildings of its well-preserved centre.

Further afield but within easy access of the Borgo di Bucciano are San Gimignano (about 35 km), Pisa (40 km) and Florence (45 km).

The nearby village of La Serra (2.5 km) has shops with basic provisions, while a wider range of shops, restaurants and services can be found at San Miniato.

How to get there

Borgo di Bucciano is within easy reach of both Pisa and Florence airports, with a large schedule of international direct flights, at around 40 and 50 km respectively. Despite its secluded position it is easily accessible from the dual carriageway linking Florence with Pisa, Livorno and the coast, which in turn connects up with the main A1 north-south motorway.

Full instructions on how to reach the Borgo, as well as transport and car hire options, will be provided on booking.
