According to the WHO the area has the "healthiest climate in the world". This is caused by the combination of constant year round warm temperatures and the huge salt lakes rich in minerals (all conservation areas) which are also home to a host of wildlife including large flocks of flamingos. Los Montesinos is only minutes from the motorway enabling easy access to the historic cities and shopping areas of Alicante, Murcia and Cartegena. The inland sea of Mar Menor with its fishing villages, marinas and a host of watersports is only a short drive away. San Miguel areaThe small town of San Miguel has a popular Wednesday market and a good variety of pavement cafes, bars and international restaurants and is surrounded by mountains, orange groves & the protected natural park of the salt lakes. Many delightful unspoilt local villages are still to be found in this area where local fiestas are held throughout the year. The area has something for everybody - there are opportunities for walking, cycling, birdwatching, horse riding, quad biking, paint balling, shopping and of course the beach is never far away. There are 20 golf courses within 40 minutes drive and Torrevieja is 15 minutes away by car where you will find a large commercial shopping centre, with international restaurants, bowling, and an Aqua Park. There are 17km of blue flag beaches along the coast from Torrevieja to Guardamar and the warm waters of the Mar Menor are only a 30 minute drive. For shoppers and people-watchers local markets can be found every day in nearby towns and the bustling historical cities of Alicante, Cartegena and Murcia are all easily accessible by motorway.
