Stayed here over Christmas and new year and it was lovely, the house is well presented , big and airy, clean and no signs of mice. but we did see 5 ants....which i wouldnt class as a big problem. (based on last review) we only had 2 problems, firstly the pool is not heated, in the summer i guess this is fine but in the winter it was abit chilly, secondly the house is abit cold , again summer ok winter the gas fire was on and once the big open fires get going the houses warms up. With had excellent service from Carmen, the lady who manages the house and she was always willing to help no matter what the problem. I also talked to the owner before leaving and he was easy and happy to answer questions. All in All i would happy bring my family here again, even in the winter. |

The house was large with plenty of space for our group of seven people. The house was very private and parking the car was not a problem outside the house. Wi-fi was available as advertised. The decor was unusual, but inkeeping with the old farm house. The position of the house was in the small village of Roque as described by the letting company. There was a restaurant/tasca within a few hundred metres that served good food at reasonable prices. The pool man came twice to clean the pool and tidy the garden. The house was infested with mice. When we arrived there was a live mouse stuck in a trap in the cupboard under the sink. There were large amounts of mouse droppings in the kitchen cupboards, on the crockery and in the drawers. The owners provided large tins which they advised guests to keep food in to avoid the mice. The cutlery tray also had droppings in. The floor in the television area was covered in droppings. At night as we tried to watch tv, mice were running across the lounge and kitchen, and we saw more mice in the downstairs bedrooms and heard them scatching and squeaking all night. It was obvious the property had not been cleaned thoroughly for years, the pans had old food stuck on them, and some were thick with grease and dust, the cutlery was broken with melted handles, and there wasn't enough for the seven of us. The bedding smelt stale and musty, there were clothes and drinks under one bed. Some of the towels were very thin and holey. There were huge cobwebs hanging from the bedroom and hall ceilings wafting in the breeze. The smoke alarm was dangling open and had no batteries. One of the showers had a hole where ants were pouring through, that could have easily been rectified by the owners. One bath had smelly drains. The photo of the pool on the website misrepresented the actual size. The pool was actually only 5.6 mtrs long. The cushions for the outside chairs were dirty and stained. The outside areas were filthy, everything had paint peeling off and was broken, broken blinds, no bright curtains/accessories as indicated on the website photos. In the pond area there was a jar containing some rotten pieces of fish, smelling terrible and attracting flies. There was no seating on upstairs terrace. No hammock as advertised. The mouse infestion was simply not acceptable, and generally the house was dirty and neglected. The photographs on holiday-lettings website were not current. We e-mailed the owners to complain but they did not reply. Response: I am responding to your review. Firstly, I would like to say that you were greeted by the Manager when you arrived, shown around the villa and you were happy to stay! It was clearly pointed out that should you have any questions, queries or problems, then you shouldn't hesitate in contacting him immediately. You already had the Managers contact phone number since you phoned him from the airport to say you were “on your way”! What I do not understand is why you decided to wait until you got home to complain when we had someone available to deal with your problem! We were not given the opportunity to talk with you face to face! Due to the specific location of the Villa, ie, Rural Countryside, overlooking Vineyards and Vegetable Plots, then field mice would naturally be expected in the normal course of Rural Life. However, if you had called the manager immediately, then they would have been given the opportunity to contact the designated Pest Control Company who in turn would have dealt with this matter swiftly. Also, the Cleaners could have been alerted to call immediately and sort out any additional cleaning, making the house much more pleasant. Had they known! Linens and towels are reviewed periodically and when necessary these can easily be replaced within a day of notification – had we known! Maintenance Contractors were also called to the property and they have not been able to find any fault with the showers. By definition, rural country house is surrounded by nature and is a 'Way of Life' for all locals who live here. The Swimming Pool photograph was taken by Professionals. However, in balance we agree that it does not show the size accurately. New photographs are currently in the process of being 'up-loaded'. During the course of the booking process many guests often ask for specific dimensions of the swimming pool, especially when they categorically state that it is imperative to their holiday requirements. The management company would have answered any and all questions posed. As for not replying to your email, this is not true. I personally responded to your email with apologies for any inconvenience even though I knew of all the above, I offered you 50% of your next visit as a good gesture which you rudely refused and only wanted cash back. I see now that you only had one notion in mind as you completed your threat of writing this review which I consider very mean spirited on your part, especially if we could have resolved your problems during your stay. Finally we have been renting our home for 2 years and we have never had such complaints, in fact the opposite, all the feedback we have had in the past from our clients is that they have been delighted with the house, the tranquillity of the place, the enchantment of the wonderful collection of art and furniture pieces, the closeness to all the activities on the island and the fact that it is only 15 minutes away from the beach front. |

Casa Los Almendros
The interior of the property was fine but the exterior needed a good clean also the cushions in the conservatory and the sun loungers were dirty as were the tables. There was no welcome pack which would have been fine if we had been told but we arrived at 8.30 pm and there was nothing in the fridge the neighbour kindly took us to an open supermarket. As you are aware the oven did not not work for the entire time we were there. The property is very rural but only 20 minutes away form beaches night-life ect it is more suitable for those wanting a quiet relaxed holiday. The local restaurant is excellent for those looking for typical Canarian food.

Great Holiday
fantastic villa, huge, wonderful very private gardens, great pool. I couldn't fault it, great having a bar around the corner that also does lovely food. La comilla and lorenzo are only a short drive and nice little towns with bars and restaurants without being at all packed with tourists. Steve name is in the book at villa and he's great for a taxi anywhere, any time if you want a drink whilst out and about. Autoresin were also great for hiring a car/jeep as we did. Best holiday ive had.

Casa Almendros, Spain - Canary Islands
The casa was exactly what we needed - perfect for relaxing. Easy access to shopping, beaches, and sight seeing if desired and if one has access to a car. Has a very private feel to it. Lovely garden and most every amenity you can think of. The pool is not large, but worked well to to cool one off while sunning. There is not air conditioning, but the night time temps and ceiling fans allowed for comfortable sleeping. We loved it and highly recommend it. The restaurant around the corner was excellent.

Fantastic !
If you are looking for a place to stay outside of the of the massive Tenerife tourist places, this is where you want to be ! The house has an even better experience than you first would think from the pictures and the place makes you feel right at home. Don't expect any night life or prefab tourism here. You'll be part of a typical Tenerife community for the duration of your stay. Yet, if you want to be a tourist, everything is "around the corner" within a short to reasonable drive. There is a really good and non-expensive restaurant only a short walk away and all your basic grocery needs can be found in El Roque. The larger village of Valle San Lorenzo is only a 5 minute drive away. Really if you want to get off the beaten tourism paths, and yet have a fantastic vacation, go here !

Enjoyable holiday in April 2010
This is a clean villa with everything you need for a basic stay. The pool is much smaller than the photos show, the villa was also very cold when we went (which might be a benefit in the summer but take jeans, socks and thick jumper otherwise!) but it has wifi and lovely sunbathing spots.
It is up a mountain, so cooler and windier, and going in April, we needed to drive to the delightful beach at Los Cristianos most days to get hot enough sun to sunbathe in swimming costumes. But with a car that beach is near enough. It is also walking distance to a good restaurant.

Amazing Villa
Dear Rosemary,
We had a thoroughly relaxing time at Casa de los Almendros.
Rudy was a most charming man and took great care to settle us in.
The villa is beautifully situated away from the hurried crowds of mass urbanisation, but still plenty places to eat and buy provisions.
The gardens are a delight, so peaceful and simply fantastic to sit amongst jasmine late at night.
We had no real problems with the villa at all, it was obvious that it is a home and that immense care had been spent on it, making it comfortable (yet with oodles of room) and a fascinating collection of artifacts from around the world.
I do prefer a washing line (or a clothes airier) to a tumble drier on holiday, as washing always smells so much better after drying in the fresh air, but that's a minor point.
It was great to be provided with loo rolls and soap for all the bathrooms.
One suggestion, maybe add a floor plan of the villa to the website: it helps visualise what one is booking.
We just wish there were more places like this to stay on holiday.
