San Lucido Beach Resort is not Nightclub Central. It is a peaceful, gated holiday complex in Calabria, Italy, ideal for couples and families to relax and spend quality time together. It is situated right next to a wide sandy beach at the foot of the mountains. There are two outdoor pools, tennis courts and a children's playground. It is a 15-minute stroll along the beach to the medieval town of San Lucido with its narrow, picturesque streets.

This air-conditioned, ground-floor apartment is more spacious than most, comprising an open plan lounge with dining area and cherrywood kitchen fitted with everything needed for self catering. The shower room has shower, toilet, bidet, large washbasin, plus washing-machine and hairdryer. The sleeping accommodation includes a king-size bed in the bedroom and a double bed-settee in the lounge. French doors lead from both the bedroom and lounge to a wide, private patio with a view over the circular pool in the centre of the complex, built after the style of the Coliseum. The patio is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine after your swim in the pool.

The complex has lots of facilities including: 2 swimming pools, tennis courts, restaurant & breakfast bar, cafe & bar, children's play area, table tennis, football pitch, beach volleyball.

The resort has direct access to the wide sandy beach only 100 m away. Apartment rental includes free availability of sun beds and parasols. There is a supermarket close to the complex and San Lucido is just 1.5 km away, where there is a variety of restaurants serving local and European cuisine. There are also cafes, bars, banks and supermarkets.

From the town there are lots of excursions to nearby places of interest, including Paola, Cosenza and the volcanic Aeolian Islands. The Sila National Park, with its magnificent mountains almost 2,000 metres high, is a fantastic place to hike or bike. The ski resorts are less than an hour away, making this apartment an ideal year-round base for both summer and winter breaks. Golf aficionados have plenty to choose from too.

Lamezia Terme Airport is just 35 minutes' drive from the complex, and during the summer there are daily low cost flights. Car hire is strongly recommended to make the most of all the local attractions. If you prefer, you can contact the resort to arrange an airport pickup, which will cost around 35 euro at the time of writing. Trains and buses are a great way to get to know the locals, and an excellent opportunity to practise your Italian.

Southern Italy region

The sun-baked south of Italy is the hidden gem of the Italian holiday industry. Although many Italians enjoy holidays in Calabria, British visitors tend to head for the north of Italy. In neglecting Calabria, you miss out on the stunning unspoilt scenery of this rugged part of the country. Calabria is a beautiful region of Italy, with coastline on three sides and miles of sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Greek and Roman conquerors among many others have occupied this mountainous region that sometimes feels as though it has been lost in time. A holiday in this region of Italy is perfect for those who want to get away from it all, to enjoy walking and hiking in wonderfully panoramic landscapes of forests and mountains.

Purpose-built resorts are now beginning to appear along the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Sea coastlines, aimed at making the most of the glorious weather that Calabria enjoys for long periods of the year. A Calabria holiday will certainly fulfill your desire for sun, sea and sand.

There is also, of course, a cultural Side to Calabria. The region has a rich heritage of artistic and architectural remains from its Greek and Roman occupants, with further relics from Byzantium, Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The biggest attractions of Calabrian holidays are the simple things. Enjoy the fantastic scenery and relaxing atmosphere on the beach, in the mountains or in the forest. Visit the National Museum housing the famous "Bronzes of Riace," two Greek statues dating back to the 5th century BC. Dine out in one of the many fantastic Italian restaurants on superb local food. Enjoy people-watching while drinking your cappucino after meandering through the local weekly market (on Tuesdays). Just relax.

San Lucido Cosenza

The San Lucido Beach Resort overlooks the Tyrrhenian cost and is located to the south of the picturesque, medieval village of San Lucido, just a few kilometres from the famous sanctuary that was dedicated to Saint Francis of Paola.

The resort is close to various links (8 km from Paola's railway station, 20 km from the Cosenza-nord highway exit, 50 km from the Lamezia Terme International Airport), making it very easy to reach. It offers a great point of reference for all those who would like to visit the various historical centres of the area, e.g.The Dome of Cosenza which dates back to 1200 A. D. While a hire-car is strongly recommended, there are good bus and train links, giving you an excellent opportunity to practice your Italian!

You can spend a day hiking (or ski-ing, in the winter) in the mountains, in the Sila or Aspromonte National Parks, or take a trip to the volcanic Aeolian Islands, easy to reach from the port of Cetraro (30 km from the resort). Another attraction is the famous Terme Luigiane Spa, about 5 km from Paola.

You can keep the golfer in your family happy too, with at least three golf courses within range. The nearest is San Michele Golf Club at Cetraro.
