Calabria is famous for the national park Sila, of which the Romans used the forest wood to make their boats for the navy, Sila is a protected national park with forests, lakes, rivers, mountains and is very beautiful and is 30 minutes by car. The forest is full of wildlife including deer, wild boar and native birds, Porcini mushrooms abound here at the right time of year. The name Calabria derives from the greek word Calabria which means "pure air". During medieval times people with lung troubles were sent to the area for helping their lungs.
San Lucido Cosenza
San Lucido is a small medieval market town which also has new buildings, small supermarkets and shops etc, it is near the medieval city of cosenza, where houses from 1492 are still in use with cobbled streets etc. The historic city of cosenza is a must see, and next to the historic city is the new city with supermarkets, shops and all you would expect of a city.
San Lucido is sitated on the coast and our holiday apartments are 100m from the sandy beach which has family safe coves for swimming and sun bathing. From San lucido you have the sea but also if you turn around you are struck by the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains less than 2 kilometres away where if you did not want to go to Sila you could easily go for a family walk through the local forests and mountains. The views are stunning, the pace of life relaxed, and the sea is warm for most of the year, I have swum in november and it was warm
