The Costa de Almeria region
The small picturesque town of San Juan de los Terreros is situated close to the border of Murcia on the beautiful unspoilt coast of Almeria. The beach is famous in this area because it shelves gently making it safer for families than many of the other beaches along this coast. There are also many hidden coves along the coastline to explore, making it an ideal romantic retreat. There are several good restaurants in the town as well as a range of bars and cafes along the attractive promenade. The larger town of Aguilas is just 8km away and also has an attractive marina and promenade. The old part of the town is very picturesque.
San Juan de los Terreros is a coast town which is still hidden from the mass tourism but where you can find all the services you need in the close surroundings; golf courses, shops, & sport facilities.
San Juan de los Terreros
While the interior of the province is famed for its highly popular and strikingly cinematic desert, its coast is equally famed as the “Mirror of the Sea” which is how it got its name, Almeria, in ancient times. The coastline is lined with mountains, cliff faces, caves, golden sands, and splendid views of North Africa. It's considered the most diverse and natural of the Spanish costas, and you'll see exactly why when you arrive at the unspoilt beaches. The sand strewn streets of the small towns and charming cities await, so do wonderful day trips out to some of the most fantastic natural parks and Moorish fortresses in the world.
Almeria offers the best climate in the whole of Spain, warm and dry throughout the year, with little rain and a large number of hours of sun a year. Temperatures reaching no lower than an average of 15º C in the winter and averages between 25º C and 29º C in the summer. A perfect all year round climate.
Almeria is home to the only desert in Europe and this desert landscape has been used for many films, including westerns, Clint Eastwood films and Lawrence of Arabia. There are three Wild West theme parks near Tabernas, where you can see old film sets, see cowboy stunt shows and even go horseriding. The area around Tabernas is an amazing lunar landscape of desert, rocks, hills, canyons and the odd cactus – it has to be seen to be believed! The Oasys Mini Hollywood is very popular, because not only has it got spectacular cowboy stunt shows and film sets, it also has a huge zoo and two swimming pools. It's great to end your day by cooling off in the pool and watching the kids have fun on the slide. It's a fantastic family day out.
Just 30km from Terreros is the popular town of Mojacar which is split into Mojacar Playa the coastal resort and Mojacar Pueblo which is a pretty town of Moorish origins which dates back 4,000 years. It is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets and old whitewashed houses and is beautifully located on the hillside overlooking the mountains.
