Five minutes walking distance from all the bars, restaurants and beaches, but set back to give views to the harbour and the volcanic hills.

San Jose is Spain's best kept secret, in the heart of the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata - Nijar. The only desert in Europe, this area is the setting of many films, including Fistful of Dollars, Indiana Jones - The Last Crusade, and hundreds more.

This is one of the only places in Spain where you will still find wide, sandy beaches, with no buildings in sight.

The Costa de Almeria region

One of the most noticeable features of this region is the quality and duration of daylight here. It is a pure, intense light which gives Almería, along with St John of Acre, Athens and Syracuse, the highest number of daylight hours in the world (3100 hours of sunshine per year).

Almería is a delightful city, merging tradition and modernity. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC, it has been home to the Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians, so it is full of history and character.

San Jose area

The village offers a wide range of good restaurants, local produce in the shops, internet cafes, a really helpful tourist office, a bus service to Almería, skippered yacht charter, La Rocca night club ......

For wild-life enthusiasts and walkers there is a chance to enjoy a break in the Parque Natural with its mountainous terrain and red earth, desert-like features leading down to over 20 miles of unspoilt, quiet sandy beaches.

Don't forget that you are just 2 hours drive from Granada, with the incredible Alhambra Palace.

How to get there

Just 30 minutes easy drive from Almeria International Airport. Cheap flights available from many airlines, including Easyjet and Ryanair.
Three hours drive from Malaga and Alicante, and two hours from Murcia and Granada.
Public transport to the town is limited, but hire cars are very reasonable.
