With lift access and located within the Los Balcones complex in Santiago de la Ribera this new fully air conditioned penthouse apartment is located just a 15 minute walk from the beautiful sandy beaches of the Mar Menor lagoon and local amenities.The apartment shares a communal swimming pool and close by a large children's play area including swings and slides and a fenced football and basketball court nearby.

On the north shore of Mar Menor the town of Santiago de la Ribera with its fine bars, cafés and glorious seafood restaurants is a delight to visit. Like most of the Spanish towns near to beaches, Santiago de la Ribera has its share of first class restaurants and is ideally situated to ensure everything is fresh.

The Costa Calida region

The region has a wealth of history and historical towns and with an average of 320 days of sunshine plenty of opportunity to explore them. Murcia has a splendid Cathedral as does Alicante which sits at the bottom of the steady climb to the castle from which the views of the coast are spectacular. Dating from Roman times Torrevieja boasts not one but two salt lakes, one still used to abstract salt, the other set aside as a nature reserve. The water become so thick with algae it turns pick attracting flocks of flamingos.

Going South is Cartagena that sits on the Costa Calida within Murcia. Despite the scruffy views as you enter the city, you will find within, a wealth of history and beautiful architecture. Along the port area which is used by the Navy, there are an array of restaurants when you can sit and relax around the harbour. You also have the Roman Ampitheatre plus many other historic sites to explore.

Further to the east spa towns can be found with mineral baths. Miles of sandy beaches abound along the coast, the nearest being Guardamar, bordered on one side by a nature reserve, its nightly market is a festival of colour. The blue flag beach has lifeguards in the summer, space is never a problem with the top of the beach giving way to permanently erected beach volleyball nets and play apparatus for the children.

If that's to energetic, sit at one of the many cafés strewn along the promenade and watch the beach activities whilst relaxing with a favourite ice cream, coffee or full course meal.

The San Javier Mar Menor / Santiago de la Ribera area

Santiago de la Ribera's sandy beach stretches for 4 miles following the promenade around the non tidal shallow waters of Mar Menor and is the largest salt water lagoon in Europe. The waters of this "lagoon" have an average depth of 3.5 metres with a maximum of 6.5 metres. It is a magnificent natural swimming pool with temperatures which are maintained but the sun of approximately 30°C in the Summer months. This makes it an ideal place for all types of water sports.

Los Alcazares is well worth a visit and is a 10 min car journey away. This area provides numerous bars and restaurants and has a beautiful beach with bars located on it. A large watersports centre operates off the beach and provides, canoeing, jet skiing, sailing and much more.

Torrevieja is within a 20 minute drive and is surrounded by salt lakes which are home to a variety of wildlife including pink flamingos which are protected within the La Mata nature reserve. The town has a large marina, fun fair, promenade which is bustling from early evening with street artists and stalls, a harbour walk and abundant bars, shops and restaurants.
