The Costa Calida/Murcia region
The seaside town of Santiago de la Ribera, which is sited on the north shore of the Mar Menor, with its fine bars, cafés and glorious seafood restaurants is a delight to visit.
Like most of the Spanish towns near to beaches, Santiago de la Ribera has its share of first class restaurants and is ideally situated to ensure everything is fresh. Everthing is close to hand in Santiago including banks, shops, small supermarkets, etc so a car is not necessary if you feel you do not wish to rent one.
There is a local street market every Wednesday which provides fresh produce and high quality leather goods and clothes.
Going South is Cartagena that sits on the Costa Calida within Murcia. Despite the scruffy views as you enter the city, you will find within, a wealth of history and beautiful architecture. Along the port area which is used by the Navy, there are an array of restaurants when you can sit and relax around the harbour. You also have the Roman Ampitheatre plus many other historic sites to explore.
Torrevieja is within a 20 minute drive and is surrounded by salt lakes which are home to a variety of wildlife including pink flamingos which are protected within the La Mata nature reserve. The town has a large marina, fun fair, promenande which is bustling from early evening with street artists and stalls, a harbour walk and abundant bars, shops and restaurants.
Going north Alicante is worth a look as are the many beaches and bays all along the Costa Blanca and of course Benidorm is only an hour away with its vast selection of attractions including the Terra Mitica theme park, Mundomar sea life attraction and Aqualandia water park.
San Javier Mar Menor area
The sandy beach stretches for 4 miles following the promenade around the non tidal shallow waters of the Mar Menor and is the largest salt water lagoon in Europe. The waters of this "lagoon" have an average depth of 3.5 metres with a maximum of 6.5 metres. It is a magnificent natural swimming pool with temperatures which are maintained by the sun of approximately 30°C in the Summer months. This makes it an ideal place for all types of water sports.
Further afield, the regional capitol of Murcia is about 30 minutes drive and has a host of fine buildings and shops. . There are several protected areas within half an hours drive, Calblanque and Sierra de Carrascoy regional parks and the San Pedro Salinas bird sanctuary to name but three.
The San Javier airport is only a 5 minute car journey away from Santiago de la Ribera and about 50 minutes from Alicante airport.

The San Javier airport is only a 5/10 minute car journey away from Santiago de la Ribera and about 45 minutes from Alicante airport via the AP7 Motorway. The combined lounge/diner has a TV and DVD with a selection of videos, the patio doors leading out onto balcony. The apartment also includes air conditioning.
We can provide a cot, bedding, high chair & buggy for a small charge on request. Security safe. A mid stay linen change can be provided on request at an extra cost if required.
