Casa delle Mure
About the home
Casa delle Mure is a truly hidden gem, situated on the 11th century walls of beautiful San Ginesio wth magnificent views of the Sibilini Mountains. All manner of shopping and services including bakery, butcher, vegetable shops, cheese and wine shops while the banks are just moments from the house. The same goes for the public green spaces for which San Ginesio is known. San Ginesio also has a nationally recognized tennis centre and a town administered swimming pool (the cleanest, most inviting public pool we've ever seen!), both of which offer day access or summer memberships (at unheard of low prices!).A truly delightful medieval town with pizzerie, restaurants, bars and icecream bars . Ideally situated for both the magnificent Sibillini National Park and the golden Adriatic coast. The Sibillini Mountains are the most striking mountains in the Apennines. In the summer you can swim in Lago Fiastra and in the winter you can ski at Sarnano. This wonderful area includes the outdoor opera at Macerata, so many delightful medieval towns to explore, and shopping for Italian shoes and bags!! Boutiques, markets and at the factory outlets near Civitanova Marche all abound with beautiful leather goods.. Don't miss the Palio in San Ginesio on 15th august; it is amazing! Jazz concerts on the coast and Festas through the year.
The kitchen and dining area are open plan with a large circular dining table and comfortable dining chairs with plenty of china cutlery and glasses etc.. In the autumn and winter we light an open log fire to sit round whilst in the spring and summer we eat most of our meals “al fresco” on the fragrant terrace followed by a stroll to the piazza for late night icecream. The sitting room has a comfortable large bed –settee, music centre, tv, dvd player and wide selection of books, magazines & games plus plenty of information about local fantastic restaurants and places to visit in the area. Up the wide marble stairs are the bedrooms and bathroom. The twin-bedded room has bedside cabinets & lights and wardrobe space whilst the double bedroom has a large comfortable double bed, bedside tables & lights and an enormous fitted wardrobe. Great to be able to hang-up all your clothes and still have room to store empty suitcases. There is even a shoe store cupboard at the top of the stairs. The bathroom is fitted out with shower, wash basin, mirror cupboards, toilet and bidet.Downstairs, in the room below the patio, there is a 2nd toilet, bidet & washbasin plus washing machine, clothes airer, ironing board and iron plus outdoor table and chairs for relaxing on the terrace.
This is our holiday home and we hope that you enjoy your visit as much as we look forward to our next visit.

BookThe Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region
The Marche is an enchanting rural patchwork of ancient towns, glorious hill top villages, wonderful mountains and long sandy beaches.Inland is where Le Marche really shines. Urbino, perhaps Le Marche’s most famous town to outsiders and university students, boasts an impressive display of Renaissance art and history up and down its vertical streets. Ascoli Piceno is filled with a history rivalling any Italian city but remains undiscovered. Equally walkable is the quaint Macerata, with a world-famous open-air opera theatre and festival. The gritty capital, Ancona, has been a bustling port city for 3000 years

The San Ginesio area
15th August is the palio in San Ginesio.
Over 250 people in period costume take part to recreate the medieval spirit and the event features such characters as the 'Capitano del Popolo', the 'Signori dei Castelli' and the 'Cavalieri' or jousters who are the main protagonists of the 'Giostra dell'Anello'.
The Cavalieri are semi-professional and belong to an organisation called 'Equivalia' who themselves form part of a larger organisation specialising in recreating such spectacles across Italy.
Another important element of the Palio is the performance of period dances which resemble the originals as close as possible and are the fruit of years of study. The performers are accompanied by expert musicians of traditional instruments such as the 'tamburi'.
San Ginesio market is on Sunday mornings. It's held in the main square and overflows to 2 smaller piazze. You can buy clothes, shoes, toys, fabrics and linen. We enjoy meals at Terra Nostra Pizzeria in Piazza Gentili and buy most of our groceries, meat, fruit and vegetables from the local shops. There is also a supermarket just outside the city walls and a Hypermarket at Tolentino. There are 2 banks and cash point machines, public telephones and internet cafe in Piazza Gentili and nearby the Tourist Information Office and a relaxing park with stupendous views of the mountains

I was wowed by the house itself, since it's built into the medieval town wall. It is very spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for our short stay. San Ginesio is a lovely town which had great restaurants, friendly locals (even though we can't speak Italian!) and a variety of small grocery shops. I especially enjoyed the cheap wine and Italian cheeses! The views from the house and the town are amazing, and seeing the mountains is breathtaking. It's perfect for a quiet relaxing break and also comfortable enough for a longer stay to further explore the area. |

This house at San Ginesio allows you to become quickly absorbed into the Italian culture. The scenery is stunning and the location is steeped in history, as the house is set into the historical wall surrounding the town. If you don't want to drive, once there fabulous restaurants, cafes and bars are within walking distance. The house is equipped to meet your every need and one of the best days we spent there was, buying local produce and cooking an Italian meal for ourselves, which we ate on the verandah overlooking the stunning scenery with a bottle of local wine, PERFECT for that much needed wind down. We will certainly be going back n a regular basis. |
