About the home

Nestled in a centuries-old complex of farm-house buildings, just 10 minutes drive from the medieval "skyscraper" fortress town of San Gimignano...Le Fontanelle is the perfect place to soak in Tuscany's sunshine, culture, food and fun.
An easy drive from Pisa, Florence and Siena...Le Fontanelle is a perfect base for exploring Tuscany. But with its shared 18 x 8m swimming pool, shaded pergola for eating 'al fresco', modest gym and acres of wooded hillside you might not want to leave!
Nearby Volterra is another popular attraction, for fans of the best-selling "Twilight" series of vampire books and films.
Our 2-bedroom/2 bathroom property will sleep up to 5 people. Furnishings include TV/DVD, stereo, charcoal BBQ, wood-burning fireplace and fully-kitted out kitchen.

Bikes and scooters are available for rent locally. Horse-back riding stables are a short drive away. Tours of the area's historic sights, vineyards and olive presses can be easily organised.

And if you're planning a holiday with friends, neighbouring units on the same property are also available for hire.

You will be staying in the Villa Agrifoglia.

At ground-level, with south-facing views of the property's hilly 6-hectare forest and stream, the 90sq.meter property contains 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a double bed in each of the rooms. With a day-bed in the larger of the two bedrooms, the property easily sleeps 5. There is also room for a baby's travel cot, if you bring one.

On the first floor, overlooking the 18 x 8m swimming pool and a valley of perfumed vegetation, there is an open-plan living and dining room with TV, DVD and small library.

Should you get bored of the region's world-famous cuisine, our kitchen is fully-kitted out to satisfy even the fussiest chef, with enough seating and tableware to throw a dinner party for 8.

Even at the height of summer, the house's traditional Tuscan construction keeps it cool and breezy. During the colder months, the property is warmed by centrally-heated radiators and a child-friendly raised wood-burning fireplace.

We overlook a wooded valley, where locals find truffles in the fall. At night, you can sometimes hear the wild boar snorting at each other! The property is safely fenced and gated, but if you open the gates, you are free to walk the wooded paths down to a creek at the bottom of the small valley. Completely charming.

The Tuscany / Siena Province region

Tuscany's warm and and welcoming locals, its fresh and delicious food, its mild winters and warm summers, its rolling hills, vineyards and midieval hilltop fortresses, the art and architecture of Florence and Siena - all of these make Tuscany an ideal destination for families.

Thermal baths and spas dot the surrounding countryside, as do vineyards and olive oil factories open to the public. Less than an hour away from LeFontanelle, take in the fabulous sights of Florence and Siena.
Just under two hours away, Pisa - with its Leaning Tower and its budget airline airport - is also a pleasant day-trip, using LeFontanelle as your home-base.

At virtually any time of year, there are food, art and music festivals in one or more of these cities. Check online for what's happening during your visit !

The San Gimignano area

Nearby SanGimignano is one of Tuscany's best-know hilltop fortress towns. Also called "the midieval skyscraper town", San Gimignano is well-known for its skyline of Renaissance towers. Situated along what was once the major pilgrimage and troude route to Rome - the Frankish Road - San Gimignano's churches and public buildings attract visitors from all over the world. Enjoy San Gimignano's many cafes and restaurants, many with views of the vineyards and farms of Tuscany's rolling hills.

Across the valley, Volterra is Italy's epicentre of Etruscan art and culture - and also a location for one of the plot-lines of the recent best-selling books and films about vampires called "Twilight", "New Moon" and "Eclipse". According to legend, Volterra's ruling family at one point were vampires, and some of the art and architecture of Volterra hints at this.

“Awonderful base from which to explore Tuscany” Our family of two adults and two teenagers loved our 6 week stay at Le Fontanelle. The proximity to San Gigmignano, Florence and Volterra was excellent. Bus and train service from Poggibonzi to Florence and Siena was also great. We enjoyed meeting other families in the other units. The caretaking and managment staff were extremely helpful. Great pool and amenities - lots of sun . Simple and attractive decor.
