Il Borghetto di San Gimignano (apartment)

Home description

Il Borghetto is an ancient complex that belonged to the noble Acciaiuoli family in 1600
and then to the Royal House of the Savoia family, made up of the
manor villa and its annexes.

Some apartments have been created from the attentive and recent restoration, all of which have been tastefully furnished and equipped with all the modern conveniences including air conditioning.

The little cluster of buildings is perfectly situated in the midst of the splendid Tuscan countryside, surrounded by olive orchards and vineyards for the production of fine oil of the highest quality and fragrance, and Vernaccia.

One of the apartments, ABBAINO, (100 squared metres) is located on the 1st floor, with access from the main door of the Villa.
Is composed by a living/dining room with kitchenette (fully equipped, with microwave/grill and dishwasher as well), fireplace, couch, 1 double bedroom with a tiny balcony which faces the main courtyard, 1 twin bedroom , 1 bath with shower.
“Abbaino” is the typical window on the roof, a sky-light, a peculiarity of Tuscan villas: there is one in the twin beds bedroom. There is a nice view from of the windows.

Three times a week at dinner – on Saturday, Tuesday and Friday – starting from late April till end of October our Restaurant is open for the Guests: you can enjoy our home made dishes from the most typical Tuscan tradition the patio (in the garden) or in the cellar.
We always offer a fixed menu for dinner and it is different every evening, made up of assorted starters, a first course of pasta, a second course of meat and vegetables, and dessert.

The Tuscany region

The most important cities and provinces of the arts, such as Siena, Firenze, Lucca, Arezzo and Cortona, Pisa, Pistoia with their piazzas, streets, museums, represent a fascinating stage for art lovers.
These towns are all at easy drive from Il Borghetto, being 1 hour maximum by car.

Moreover in a day (or less) the following excursions can be achieved:
The Val d' Elsa, with its pearls; San Gimignano the city of the beautiful towers (the Medieval Manhattan of Tuscany!); Monteriggioni and its perfect town-walls; Colle Val d' Elsa with its medieval village ‘Colle Alta’, one of the most important Italian centres for crystal production.
In addition, Il Borgetto is ideally situated for visiting the enchanting villages of Abbadia a Isola,Casole d' Elsa, Mensano, and more.

San Gimignano area

The territory of the ‘Chianti-shire’, the place of production of the famous wine.
The landscape of the Val d' Orcia, with its delightful cultivated hills covered with olive groves and vineyards and its wines Brunello and Nobile di Montepulciano.

Every month of the year there is an traditional festival, a celebration, a festival all over Tuscany
Every different week day there is a street market in the villages nearby.

How to get there

Il Borghetto is located in the heart of Tuscany It is a perfect base from which to explore Tuscany.
It is ideally located for day trips to all the Tuscan towns.

The closest airports are Firenze (50 km) and Pisa (80 km).
Roma Fiumicino airport is 3 hours drive from Il Borghetto.
Ryanair , Thomsonfly and Jet 2, amongst others fly regularly to Pisa.
All major car hire companies operate from Pisa and Florence.
The closest train station is in Poggibonsi (10 km from Il Borghetto).

From the North:
take the A1 motorway from Florence toward Rome, exit at Firenze Certosa, take the Florence-Siena superhighway for Siena. Exit at Poggibonsi Nord and at the roundabout follow the signs for San Gimignano. At the next roundabout continue to follow the signs for San Gimignano and travel 4 Km on the SP 1. Turn right at the sign indicating CORTENNANO - PIETRAFITTA and carry on for exactly 2 km on this dirt track till the entrance to the property "IL BORGHETTO" on your right hand side.

From the South:
at Siena, take the Florence-Siena superhighway toward Florence and exit at Poggibonsi Nord, at the roundabout follow the signs for San Gimignano. At the next roundabout continue to follow the signs for San Gimignano and travel 4 Km on the SP 1. Turn right at the sign indicating CORTENNANO - PIETRAFITTAand carry on for exactly 2 km on this dirt track till the entrance to the property "IL BORGHETTO" on your right hand side.

Apartments have a well equipped kitchen with a cooking board, sink, refrigerator with freezer, microwave with grill function, dishwasher (only in the larger) apartments, toaster, moka (Italian coffee maker) and all the main kitchen utensils.
Each apartment has Satellite TV with international channels and a direct dialling telephone.
There is a large Supermarket, PAM, just outside Poggibonsi, on the road to Il Borghetto, 6 km from here.

Further details outdoors:
The Villa is surrounded by a large park with secular Cypress trees where the guests may stroll through vast green areas abounding with plants, colourful flowerings and typical scents. To further relax in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, the guests may also enjoy a pergola with wrought iron tables and chairs and a large swimming-pool (m 16x8).
The swimming pool - opened from April 26 to october 30- is at the top of the slope where all the villa is located; is open for our Guests with any restriction. It is amidst olive-oil trees, there is a boundless view of the area from there, in bright days you can also see the mountains 80 km away.

- Indipendent Air conditioning is available from June 7 to September 6, 2008

Payment policy:
In case of booking, we kindly ask our Guest to make an advance payment at the moment of reservation (35% of the total amount) and the remainder (65%) 45 days before their arrival.
The payment can be made either:
- by bank transfer (in this case we kindly ask our guest to add an extra Euros 30,00 to each payment for bank charges)
- by Credit Card (in this case we kindly ask our guest to add an extra 4% of the total amount for bank charges); we accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express

Cancellation policy:
- From reservation to 45 days before your arrival you loose 35% of the whole price
- between 44 and 21 days you loose 70% of the whole price
- between 20 and 0 days you loose 100% of the whole price

Security deposit:
We kindly ask to all our guests a security/damage deposit of the amount of 260,00 Euros IN CASH only (no traveller’s cheque, no credit card, no foreign money) for each apartment at their arrival; we will return the money back to them at their departure in case there are no damages to the apartment, the common areas and the objects.
This is a regular procedure in apartments renting.

Arrival time is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Departure time is from 8,00 to 10,00 a.m.

Conditions

For all the month of April rentals for less than 1 week

The property sits on a steep hillside and would not be suitable for persons who have difficulty climbing hills or steps. For those of normal fitness, the hillside adds to the beauty and the view.

large parking inside the property,

all taxes.

Laundry facilities (washing machine and dryer) are available in a common room; the cost is Euros 5,00 per cycle of washing or drying.
