Podera Torrichi is a newly renovated 16th Century Tuscan farm building, with wonderful views of the Tuscan countryside. It is found at the end of a'white' road, a private road, lined with olive groves and mediterranean bush, 2km from the main road SP4 ,situated perfectly between San Gimignano and Volterra. There are uninterrupted views across classic Tuscan landscape and being a private road there is no through traffic other than for the neighbouring farmhouse ,Podera Collinella.
Podera Torrichi consists of 3 farm buildings totally renovated and lanscaped with a fabulous infinity type pool shared by the owners.
One of the most famous walled medieval towns in Tuscany, San Gimignano, is only 15- 20 minutes away ( 14km), known for its medieval towers and architectural treasures. Here there are many restaurants and speciality shops as well as lovely buildings , museums and churches. In the opposite direction lies Volterra, once the Etruscan capital with its wealth of historical buildings, restaurants and shops protected by the massive walls.
Siena is 40 minutes drive, steeped in history and culture, famous for Il Palio and the bustling Piazza Il Campo. Florence is about 45 minutes away , with more fascinating art and architecture than one can imagine.
Bibbona , less than an hours drive has lovely unspoilt beaches and a quiet relaxing atmosphere, dotted with beachside cafes.
The Chianti region is approx 30 minutes drive with its many vineyards , wine tasting tours and numerous restaurants.
In the immediate area are several restaurants proud of their local produce and Tuscan menus.
It is an area of natural beauty, one may see wild boar along the roads and an abundance of birds and small wildlife.
If one is seeking rest and relaxation , it is here. Peaceful and beautiful , yet within easy distance of the major towns and cities of which Tuscany is so justly proud.

The Tuscany region

Tuscany has a wealth of lovely unspolit villages and small towns with beautiful piazzas, many of which are traffic free. The area is perfect for walking and exploring the huge amount of historical buildings, art and treasures of the medieval era. Podera Torrichi is ideally situated between San Gimignano and Volterra, both steeped in history and art . Summers in Tuscany can be very hot, but the position of Torrichi farmhouse is on the top of a small hill which means that there is a pleasant breeze even on hot days. The farm buildings are of thick stone allowing the interior to remain cool, there are also fans available.

San Gimignano / Gambassi Terme area

San Gimignano (15 mins drive), famous for its medieval towers offers a wealth of historical buildings and art. The lovely cobbled streets and lively Piazza delle Cisterna has many lovely restaurants , cafes and shops. The famous festival delle Mesi takes place in June, and even in winter there are many street carnivals in the town. Volterra (20mins) , once the etruscan capital , boasts fascinating buildings and museums and is a busy little town with a good variety of shops , restaurants and street cafes.
Castel del Monteriggioni is approx 20 mins drive , and Castelfalfi, once the summer residence of the Medeci family is about 25 mins away. This lovely estate now offers an international standard 18 hole golf course , tennis court and stabling.
The famous Il Palio,the medieval horse race takes place in Siena in August. Siena is a wonderful city, approx 45 mins drive, has endless art and architectural treasures .
Florence is less than an hour away, and Pisa and Lucca one hour drive. Vinci , the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci has a world famous museum dedicated to him , which is approx 30 mins away.
The Chianti area is an enjoyable day excursion , where one can taste the local wine, visit vineyards and take a picnic or lunch in a local restaurant.
Cookery courses and Wine tours can be booked in San Gimignano or Volterra.

How to get there

Budget airlines fly to PISA from most areas of UK- Ryanair and Thomsonfly from Bournemouth, Stansted, Coventry and Doncaster. Jet 2 from Manchester , Leeds and Newcastle. Easyjet and BMI from Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Bristol and East Midlands.
Fly to Florence from Gatwick or Heathrow..

This spacious ( 82sq ft) two bedroom apartment is a part of a beautiful private development of 13 apartments of renovated farm buildings which have been sympathetically restored using natural materials and the original stone. Chestnut beams and terracotta floor tiles , together with grainite worktops and etruscan marble are used in kitchens and bathrooms. A west facing terrace with garden furniture looks over a typical Tuscan landscape of rolling hills and olive groves, and an infinity type pool borders the Tuscan countryside.
The furnishings have been carefully chosen by an interior designer to complement the rural location and the stone farm buildings. Light oak furniture and comfortable sofas and beds ensure a restful holiday.. The wardrobes and fittings have been made by local craftsmen using local materials where [possible.
The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and dressing area, and the twin bedded room has ample room for a cot or third folding bed. There is a family bathroom with washing machine.
The kitchen cupboards are made from Italian chestnut and house all the modern conveniences, dishwasher and cooker, hob and fan. There is a good size fridge freezer and ample crockery and utensils.
Great care has gone into equipping the apartment to create a comfortable home with modern day luxuries and old world charm.
There is a log fire for winter use, in addition to gas central heating and radiators.

Further details outdoors:
A pretty west facing terrace with covered gazebo provides shelter from the hot sun. Native plants climb around and the private garden is filled with mediterranean bush and flower pots.
There is ample garden furniture and the shared pool is 50m away, a lovely infinity type pool with sunbathing area and sunbeds. The view from the pool is wonderful, stretching across rolling hills to the town of Volterra in the distance.
The communal gardens are managed as is the pool.
