I'l Foccolare is located in the grounds of the Casale San Frediano estate. It's set in a typical Tuscan landscape characterised by hills with olive trees and mediterranean Cipress trees. It is on the limits of the three provinces: Florence, Pisa and Siena.
San Gimignano is only few kilometres away. Casale San Frediano has a private swimming pool ( maximum depth 1,00 m, open from 01/05 to 30/09, or longer if weather permits), outside space, barbecue, Sat TV, and parking. There are many paths for walks by foot or for mountain-bikes. The area is enclosed by forest where it is possible to see a wealth of Tuscan wildlife (pheasants, hares, roes, wild boars, hawks, squirrels).

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is steeped in history with many beautiful towns and cities to visit. Nearby Florence (about an hour's drive or by rail from nearby Poggibonsi or Certaldo) is home to the world famous Uffizi museum, The Duomo and 'Ponte Vecchio' bridge. This former capital of Italy is packed with historic buildings and beautiful statues can be found in many of the open squares.
Historic Siena is home to the 'Palio' horse race every July and is less than an hours drive. You can stroll through the winding cobbled streets taking in the fabulous atmosphere this historic town has to offer. There are many designer shops, restaraunts and public gardens to enjoy.
The area is famous for its wines - amongst the best are Chianti and the DOCG 'Vernaccia di San Gimignano' white wine.
The Tuscan countryside is beautiful and the changing light has inspired painters over the ages. The climate is warm throughout the spring and autumn - summers are hotter but are tempered by cooling light breezes.
San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its famous stone towers look over the cobbled streets and paths that wind through the centre of this charming Tuscan town. There is ample parking and exploring the squares and gardens within the city walls reveals small shops selling local food specialities and wines. There are regular festivals and further information and photos can be found on the San Gimignano Official Website at; www.sangimignano.com
The medieval town of Volterra is equally close by. Sitting high on a hill overlooking Casale San Frediano, this charming Etruscan and medieval town was a film set for the recent hit 'New Moon' - the second of the Twighlight Trilogy. There are many beautiful shops selling local 'Alabaster' and the views towards the coast are simply breathtaking.
Montaione, in the historical centre Palazzo Pretorio, the panoramic view, the Roman cistern, S. Regolo Church. In the centre there is a gorgeous balcony for admiring the famous Tuscan hills!.
S. Vivaldo cloister. Dozens of little churches called "Italian Jerusalem" which represent a reproduction of jerusalem during Christ's life.
Certaldo. It's Giovanni Boccaccio's native town. In the oldtown, placed on a higher level than the new, you can visit the poet's home with the library where there are all the editions and all the translations of the "Decameron". In "Certaldo Alto" You can visit the Palazzo Pretorio with Benozzo's frescos. In July You can't miss "Mercantia" a theatre festival.
Vinci - Leonardo's native village. Here You can visit the "Leonardiano museum", in the beautiful castle of Conti Guidi, which represents one of the wider and original collections of engines and models of the inventive, technologist engineer Leonardo; and the house of the maestro in Anchiano and the "Leonardiana Library".(half a day about 35/40km.)
Montelupo, Fiorentino, Capital of ceramics and Terracotta.
Montespertoli. the city of wine. The week between the last Sunday of May and first of June there is a great wine festival. Here You can visit the Church of S. Andrea, the "pieve di S. Piero in Mercato" and the museum of Sacred Art; the Poppiano Castle (Conti Guicciardini), the Montegufoni Caste and the Sonnino Castle.
Colle Val d'Elsa, where Arnolfo di Cambio was born. The Village Colle Alta is a typical medieval village. Here you can admire the ruins of 12th -13th century fortifications. Very interesting to visit is Palazzo Campana, Piazza del Duomo, Palazzo Pretorio with the Museo Archeologico Bandinelli and works of Arnolfo di Cambio. The Museo Archeologico collects archeological finds of a necropolis of Monteriggioni.
