'Podere Torricchi' is a small collection of renovated 16th Century farm buildings converted into luxury houses and apartments. 'Il Granario' is a beautiful spacious house set on two floors and is located on a hill with stunning views of the Tuscan hills. The renovation has retained traditional chestnut beamed ceilings and terraccota tiled floors in all rooms. Furnishings are to a very high standard having all the luxuries of home combined with traditional Tuscan themes.
It is an ideal spot to explore the best that Tuscany has to offer being close to Siena , Florence and the beautiful medieval hilltop towns of San Gimigano and Volterra. After sightseeing you can eat alfesco in the large west facing private garden, watching the sun set over the Tuscan landscape or take a cooling swim in the large swimming pool. The area is very peaceful and relaxing, the perfect romantic getaway or an ideal family holiday.

The fully fitted, fully equipped kitchen has integrated appliances, (large fridge/freezer, fullsize oven, four ring gas hob, dishwasher, microwave grill, toaster, kettle, coffee maker), granite worksurfaces and a dining area with exposed stone wall and a dining table and chairs to seat four people.
The spacious lounge has a large open fireplace with a log burning stove, leather sofa and two chairs. There is 32inch TV, DVD player and limited English language satellite TV (Sky News, CNN, EuroNews, Music, documentary and some film channels). Wifi internet access is provided for e-mails and web browsing.
Each bedroom has beamed ceilings and is furnished to a very high standard with comfortable beds, wardrobe and bedside cabinets. The downstairs bedroom has a King size bed, the upstairs has two singles. Bedding and towels are provided are are high quality. Bedroom windows have mosquito screens and both bedrooms have very quiet air conditioning/climate control units.
Both bathrooms have power showers, WC and washbasin. The upstairs en suite has a bidet, the downstairs a bath and washing machine. There is a clothes drying rack for drying clothes in the open air (not electric tumble dryer).
All windows and doors are double glazed with interior wood shutters. All windows and doors have external wrought iron decorative bars that enhance the traditional look of he property whilst adding to general security.

There is a covered gazebo with large dining table and chairs on the patio facing the garden and beautiful views of the countryside. The gravelled garden area is surrounded by flowering shrubs and herbs and has two lightweight portable sunloungers, wought iron sofa and chairs with padded covers and glassed top table.
There are a further two sunloungers on the poolside for exclusive use of guests and the lightweight loungers at the house are easily transported to the pool if additional loungers are required.
The beautiful 17metre swimming pool has an extensive paved solaruim with sunloungers. Shade is provided by a large covered gazebo. The pool area has uninterrupted views of miles of Tuscan countryside, the distant Appenine mountain peaks are visible to the north on clear days. Whilst there is no shallow end the pool is just over waist depth on an average adult. The pool is open from 1st May - 1st October. Please bring your own pool towels as these are not provided.
Podere Torricchi consists of 13 renovated houses and apartments in three stone buildings that were originally farm buildings dating back to the 16th Century. Whilst each property has a private garden there are footpaths around the communal garden areas from which you can enjoy the different views of the rolling countryside and the nearby hill town of Volterra.
The entire site is private and is bordered by shrubs and low fencing and there are gated entrances at two points. All paths are lit at night with low level lighting. There is a large secure parking area adjacent to but slightly below the main site so as to not interrupt the gorgeous views.
Podere Torricchi is accessed via a 2.5 km gravelled 'white' road. The surface is regularly maintained but is unsuitable for vehicles with very low ground clearance e.g. sports cars.
Please note that the pool is open from 1st May - 1st October.
I regret the house is unavailable for rent between 1st November and 1st April due to the unavailability of cleaning services.
Arrivals and departures on any day of the week, minimum stay is 5 days. Maximum stay is one month.
The house is fully cleaned prior to arrival and on departure - for stays over 7 days a change of linen is included.
The Tuscany region
Tuscany is steeped in history with many beautiful towns and cities to visit. Nearby Florence (about an hour's drive or by rail from nearby Poggibonsi or Certaldo) is home to the world famous Uffizi museum, The Duomo and 'Ponte Vecchio' bridge. This former capital of Italy is packed with historic buildings and beautiful statues can be found in many of the open squares.
Historic Siena is home to the 'Palio' horse race every July and is less than an hours drive. You can stroll through the winding cobbled streets taking in the fabulous atmosphere this historic town has to offer. There are many designer shops, restaurants and public gardens to enjoy.
The area is famous for its wines - amongst the best are Chianti and the DOCG 'Vernaccia di San Gimignano' white wine.
The Tuscan countryside is beautiful and the changing light has inspired painters over the ages. The climate is warm throughout the spring and autumn - summers are hotter but are tempered by cooling light breezes.
San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its famous stone towers look over the cobbled streets and paths that wind through the centre of this charming Tuscan town. There is ample parking and exploring the squares and gardens within the city walls reveals small shops selling local food specialities and wines. The medieval town of Volterra is equally close by. Sitting high on a hill overlooking Podere Torricchi the town was a film set for the recent hit 'New Moon' - the second of the Twighlight Trilogy. There are many beautiful shops selling local 'Alabaster' and the views towards the coast are simply breathtaking.

Thank you for your review, I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thanks also for your suggestions - when I installed the wifi the 20GB data was sufficient for the usage of my guests. However the increase in the use of on-line devices is placing a strain on that limit so I will be migrating to an unlimited data package this winter in time for the new season. As the internet is provided via satellite, data is much more expensive than telephone line systems, however I recognise that more of my guests do need to keep in touch with family and their businesses so the additional investment is necessary. We do have a maintenance plan for the road and this takes place in the spring. During late summer it shows the signs of wear so needs extra care. I do appreciate that you recognised that it's a shared road but I am very active is ensuring the maintenance is not neglected. I'm pleased to hear so many positive comments about your stay so I'm grateful that you have taken a few moments to share your experience.

The views from the windows are restricted as we had to retain them in their original place and shape as they were when the house was originally built as a grain store over 200 years ago. Thank you for your lovely review, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your kind comments about the service I provided. You will have seen from a more recent review that the access road has now undergone repair, I visited a few days ago and can confirm that the road is in much better condition. It is a gravel surface and this is very common in rural parts of Tuscany but it is now much easier to use. I also note your comments about the clothes dryer. It is very unusual for rental properties to provide electric clothes driers as the drying rack combined with the hot weather is normally sufficient to quickly dry washing. I will however update my website to clarify this.

Thank you for your great review, I am pleased to hear you found my home met your expectations and its always a pleasure to fully support my guests. I can reassure future guests that only four of the properties are rented, the Italian owners of the others do visit occasionally, especially at weekends, but most of the year it is as you experienced. Yes, that road needs to be driven along carefully and its not untypical of roads to rural properties in Tuscany. However it is worth the slight inconvenience to get to such a wonderful setting. I have been negotiating with the other users of the road to have it completely resurfaced so improvements are on the way!
