The Lazio region
The town of San Felice Circeo has an ancient history that begins with the Neanderthals.
It is thought that the Circeo promontory was a station port of the Phocians, a population that settled in the Greek colonies in Sicily. It was precisely the Phocians to locate the Circeo the story of the Odyssey of Ulysses and of the Maga Circe. The Greeks began to narrate and to bring various legends related to the Circeo and Ulysses, Circe and their children.
During the centuries the Circeo is a Roman colony, possession of the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages, a fief of the Caetani and finally papal stronghold.
