About the home

Welcome to my lovely beachfront home at Mission Beach. When my family bought the property, the girls always looked forward to going to The Big House. The name stuck, and our home, located at 2962 Ocean Front Walk, is now a fully furnished rental property that has become a vacation destination for many travelers. We purchased The Big House at Mission Beach because the area is friendly, safe, close to attractions and part of a village community. Our girls loved the park, roller coaster, ferris wheel and the safety of this beach area. I invite you to join our family and let us accommodate your next visit to San Diego. A perfect destination for singles, couples, families and friends, The Big House offers affordable rates and full amenities.
The Big House is a spacious home, a bit over 4000 square feet. The house has 5 bedrooms, 4 baths and sleeps 17 comfortably. For your comfort, we offer 4 twin beds, 1 queen, 1 king, 2 twin sofa sleepers, 4 twin rollaway beds and a crib. Recently, we purchased new beds, fresh bedding and linens. The house is stocked with towels, linens, blankets and beach towels. Each room is attractive and homey.
Inside the house, the tile floors are clean and well cared for. Let's begin with the first floor: A generous living room has brown leather sectional sofa for lounging and watching tv. Curl up by the fire and sit in the adjoining conversation area by the picture window. Also on the main floor are two bedrooms and a bath. The main floor dining room boasts an extended wood table that seats 17. The kitchen is large, with tiled countertops, new sets of pottery serving 17, new cookware, serving pieces, glassware, oven and microwave, ice making refrigerator, dishwasher and an adjoining laundry room with full capacity washer and dryer.
Moving up to the second floor, we find the gorgeous Master Suite. With a full sliding door, the room offers a romantic view of the ocean. A luxurious stone fireplace, king size bed, leather sectional sofa, dresser unit and television add just the right home touch. Step up into the tiled bathroom with vanity area, separate bath and walk-in closet.
The third floor is a favorite for family visitors. Privacy and charm accentuate this darling room with door to private balcony, twin beds, television and bath.
Above the third floor is the attached condo. This is a home of its own, with a separate bedroom, living area with television, leather sofa, chairs, dining room, kitchen, private deck, full kitchen with oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer set, pantry, and private bath. This apartment has its own entry door and offers complete privacy.
Outside, The Big House has an attached garage and 2 carports. Street parking, as well as a lot at the park, is available. A spacious front patio facing the ocean is complete with teak wood dining table, chairs, additional round table with umbrella and new barbecue grill. An outdoor deck with guard rail on the second floor is located just off the master suite. A cute private deck is off the third floor bedroom, and the attached condo has a long wood deck and new barbecue. A short stone wall surrounds the patio, and the gate opens onto the boardwalk. In the garage, you will find bicycles, and beach umbrellas and an extra refrigerator.
In addition to unobstructed views of the ocean and beach, The Big House is convenient to numerous activities and sightseeing areas. Within walking distance: the white sands of the beach with ocean shore just a few yards away. Lifeguards are on duty. Sailboat and fishing boat rentals are nearby. Fishing excursions are also available. Visit Sea World and the San Diego Zoo, all in the area. Take a bike ride around the marina, or relax with a good book on the patio. Take a short walk to the grass park and relax before riding the Belmont roller coaster and ferris wheel.
Order a pizza from Big Kahuna or hop in the car and drive to one of the fantastic restaurants in the Gas Light District. Drive down to the harbor and tour The Midway, stroll through the quaint shops and eat at one of the excellent restaurants. Explore downtown San Diego and then drive over to Old Town. There is no shortage of shopping in San Diego, and Mission Beach offers dive shops and souvenirs. Drive to other beach areas and gather seashells.
Rental rates for The Big House are affordable, and we do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable. Return guest discounts and mid week specials during April and May apply. My husband, his brother and I took a vacation to San Diego October 21-27. I was concerned about having enough space to myself to be comfortable. The Jenkins men are big guys, and I wanted to have room for my girl stuff. This house was spectacular. I loved every minute of the stay there. The house was big enough to accommodate all of us and even give me a private room to myself. The deck of this house is so beautiful and the view was impeccable. I loved walking two steps and feeling ocean sand beneath my toes. My husband had made all the arrangements, and I wasn't sure how well he would do with a property he had never seen. But the woman who owns the house was so nice and went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. We all felt like she was more than a home owner. It was like we made a new friend. I suggest anyone take advantage of this opportunity to stay in beautiful San Diego, at a splendid home, owned by one of the most terrific women I know.Date of Stay October 21, 2011

I visited San Diego with my family on October 21-27. We stayed at the most wonderful house I have ever seen. The seller was on point when she described the house. It was perfect. I'm a pretty big guy, and it was spacious and comfortable. I normally don't write a review when I stay somewhere, but this homeowner was such a terrific lady that I wanted to take time to write a review and thank her for making this vacation special. I was in charge of planning the whole thing and I was pretty nervous about renting a house sight unseen. But the pictures she took of the house and the way she treated us like royalty was worth noting. I recommend this beautiful property to anyone travelling.

We are all professionals in the entertainment industry, so our expectations were high. First, I talked to the owner, and she was the nicest and most professional woman I have ever met. That was in the plus column. The house itself is right on the beach, comfortable and well decorated...well as far as a bunch of film exec guys can tell. We like cooking out and the kitchen and barbecue were in great shape. Obviously, as a filmmaker I have stayed at guest houses all over the world. The problem with those places is always communication with the owners. They can make the vacation miserable. One of the selling points for this property was the willingness of the owner to do everything she could to provide us with everything we needed. I recommend this home and hope everyone takes advantage of this great vacation opportunity.

We would prefer to rent by the week in Summer: June to September and holidays Christmas, New Year and Spring Break.
Otherwise we can do a 3 night minimum. There is a large theme park nearby just a block away and a farmers market nearby walking distance we have 5 bikes to ride too.

Conditions

I can do a 3 night minimum, smoking is permitted on decks and patios. We have easy access to the decks just outside the main house on all three levels and outside the apt.

WOW is all I can say...this place is absolutley beautiful! We come to Mission Beach every year and have never stayed at such a perfect place. This place has everything you need! Very spacious, perfect views, clean, organized and breath taking! The photos don't do it justice! Thank you for being nice and helpful and always answering our questions! Thank you for the wine and the best vacation! We already want to book it for next year! We had no issues with parking. Plenty of spaces and even the big parking lot right down the street. We came for a family honeymoon right after our wedding, and our grown children joined us for such a great, great week! The house is beautiful, and much better than the photos! Although I have to say, the house owner's gorgeous photography all through the house is spectacular! We had plenty of room, even though there was a whole slew of us, and it was great to be able to give our oldest son and his wife their own apartment! They said it was better than their apartment at home in Boston. We have a very active family and Mission Beach was perfect for all those who wanted to run, bike, or swim. Or just sit out on the front patio reading. That's where we all hung out every day. The HUGE, gorgeous master bedroom allowed us to have a private area for our "honeymoon" and we loved having coffee on the big deck outside our bedroom. The house is 2 minutes away from such fun things in San Diego! We went to a Padres game, to the Gaslight area for dinner, even checked out some other beaches, although none were nicer than our own beach right outside our door! An absolutely great place for a small or large group. Can't wait to come back with our family!! The owner's were great, very responsive...this whole experience was great. THANK YOU for having such a wonderful place. Everything is so beautifully thought out -- when they became too much I went and hid on your upstairs balcony.
