About the home

The holiday house is located 300 metres from San Casciano in Val di Pesa centre. Facing the open country from a dominant position, it offers the comforts of a town life and the beauty of the Chianti landscape opening on hills with vineyards and olive trees. There are no building in front and down the hill, while the house back faces our car park and other village buildings.

The holiday house is a old detached building restored in 2006 and is finely furnished in Tuscan country style.
The house is the ideal place for those who want to enjoy the village life and move away (even without a car) to visit Florence, Siena and other tourist places. There is a frequent, cheap and fast coach service to and from Florence historic centre that is just 16km away. Coach service connects San Casciano also to Siena and other Chianti country villages.

The house is not isolated in the country but at few steps from the village centre, so you can enjoy city life, go shopping or go to restaurants without using a car, there are several great restaurants and groceries within easy walking distance.
In front of the house, just outside the kitchen, there is a terrace with a 4 seats table under a gazebo where you can have your breakfasts or relax facing the sunset.

Non-metered broadband Internet access is included. Two parking spaces are at your disposal in the car park inside the property, few meters on the back of the house.
We live in a farmer's house 15 metres beside the rented vacation home and we are at your disposal for any information and travel tip. We are able to speak English and French. Inside the house you will find some travel books and magazines in English about Tuscany and Florence.

Facilities

Further details indoors:
Two bathrooms with showers, one at ground floor, one at first floor.
Two bedrooms: the main one with double bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers; the other with two desks, a wardrobe and stairs leading to a sleeping loft with two twin beds (can be joined on request).
The kitchen is fully equipped for long stays, we had guests staying for several months. Bed linens and towels are included and changed weekly.
In March 2009 we have installed an air conditioning system in both the bedrooms.

Further details outdoors:
A private car park, inside the property, has two parking spaces at your disposal. In front of the house there is a terrace with a gazebo, a table, 4 chairs and 2 wood deckchairs. A stone barbecue is just outside the kitchen.
The garden is on a hill with many olive trees (from which we produce extra virgin oil), is not fenced and is shared with the owners' farmhouse.

Further details

Change over day is Saturday except for low season and last minute rentals. Minimum booking is 6 days during low season, 7 days the rest of the year.
Payment by bank transfer or Paypal, 30% at reservation, the rest 45 days before arrival. Security deposit to be paid cash upon arrival, 250 or 500 euros depending on the length of your stay. Will be returned back after we have inspected the house.

Conditions

Gas/Heating not included to be paid according to use (0.8 euro/m^3). Heating should be turned on starting in November till March. Electricity charged according to use (0.35 euro/Kw).
Check in from 16:00, check out before 10:00. Changeover day is usually Saturday, we can make exceptions for last minute deals or 6 days staying. Just ask. :-)

The Tuscany / Firenze Province region

Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture.

There are many things to be seen and done in Tuscany, the main difficulty is to choose where to start from. Certainly most should start with Florence, then continue on to Siena and Pisa. The roll call of città d'arte, cities of art, is daunting: Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and Lucca are all striking.

From our house is easy to reach all those places becaus San Casciano is just 3 km from an highway that connects Siena to Florence and then to A1 motorway. You could visit the most attractive Tuscan cities and charming country villages while enjoying the village life.

The San Casciano Val di Pesa area

San Casciano in Val di Pesa is situated to the south of Florence, surrounded by the neighbouring Communes of Scandicci and Impruneta (to the north), Greve in Chianti (to the east), Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (to the south) and Montespertoli (to the west). In the past it was called "San Casciano a Decimo" because it stood on the tenth milestone of the Roman road from Florence.

San Casciano and Chianti offers a lot of tourist attractions during the whole year, like food festivals, local markets and art exhibitions. The village has got many shops, a big supermarket (750 metres from the house) and many good restaurants that our guests can reach in less then 5 minutes walk. To reach the village centre you don't have to use a car as the house is just 350 metres far from it. Every Monday there is a market in the main village's square.
There is a public swimming pool, recently opened, at 2 Km from the property (called Piscina del Chianti).

Reaching Florence is very easy, the coach terminal is about 700 metres from the house and the trip lasts 30 minutes ending in the centre of Florence, beside the railway station and 500 metres from the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. To reach Siena by bus you'll have to change in Poggibonsi.

Frequent and cheap extraurban coach service to Florence centre (by SITA), the main coach station is 700 metres from the house. The journey to Florence centre takes about 35 minutes.
From Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (31 Km) you can take a TAXI (previously booked) or rent a car. Alternatively you can reach Florence Central Station with airport shuttle service and from there take a coach to San Casciano, it is very cheap.

“great location, lovely place” travelled with husband, grown up son and sons girlfriend. easy to reach by flying to pisa then pick up hire car. straightforward drive. san casciano is lovely area. can walk into town from the house in the evenings and have a great meal at one of the lovely restaurants. the local coop is a short walk away so you can pick up meats, olives and cheeses and have lunch sat in the lovely garden patio area. views are amazing. owners friendly and helpful. easy to reach florence, pisa and surrounding areas. worth a visit to natural sulphur hot springs - bit of a drive away, but fantastic. take a picnic. would definately recommend a stay here and we will hopefully go again. only thing that would improve it for us would have been a hot tub in the garden and an extra sofa in lounge.

Price does not include: gas/heating (0.8 euro/cubic metre) and electricity (0.35 euro/Kw) to be paid according to use. Heating is usually necessary from November to March.

Security deposit: 250 euro for one week, 500 euro for longer periods; to be paid cash on arrival, it's returned back at your departure.

Extra cleanings upon request (10 euro per hour). No agency fees.

A note about MINIMUM STAY: even during high season you can stay less than 7 days, but the price of rent will be that of a week. The chosen dates must fall within two Saturdays.
