The Gran Canaria region
Gran Canaria is a sub tropical island with a climate to match, the average temperature is 25 degrees centigrade, often warmer in the south of the island which is where our property is located, making it a year round destination. The Canary Islands belong to Spain but are located off the West Coast of Africa on a level with southern Morocco.
The island is often described as a mini continent because of the variety of landscapes to be found there from the endless sandy beaches in the south, made for basking in the sun and swimming in the ocean, the Canary current keeps it warm at any time of the year, to the dramatic rock formations and mountains of the interior and the island's buzzing , cosmopolitan capital Las Palmas located in the north an exciting city with it's own beaches, elegant stores and a broad range of cultural activities.
San Agustin area
As already mentioned we have prepared a file of local information and have guide books in the apartment for your use. There are a multitude of theme parks and activities available on the island. The local grocery shops often have copies of the free island newspaper in English called RTN which is very informative and also contains an island guide. You'll find dates and venues of local fiestas.
The year starts with a bang with spectacular firework displays on 31st December to announce the New Year, followed by parties long into the night. Then there's the Three Kings parade on the 5th January. Carnival starts in late January/early February almost until Easter .Local festivals, exhibitions, dances are held throughout the year and everyone's made welcome, so make the most of them
How to get there
You will find that there is a vast selection of charter companies offering flights to Gran Canaria. As these change from time to time I find that searching via any search engine on the internet will normally bring up the best deals at the time. There are also two scheduled airlines that fly there . 1Easyjet operates flights from Gatwick several times a week. 2. Iberia the Spanish national airline fies every day but these flights involve a change, normally in Madrid. Both are often cheaper than the charter airlines.Ryan Air will be operating flights from a variety of airports from October 2009. Please look on their website for details. There is a taximetered taxi rank at the airport and the cost to Las Lomas is about 35 Euros, takes about 25mins, or there is an hourly bus service. Both taxis and public transport on the island are excellent and most efficient.

Here you'll find all the information needed to make your stay go without a hitch e.g. where to dispose of rubbish, locate the fuse box, ( this will be turned on prior to your arrival), where the nearest pharmacy and medical centre are and how to contact the consulate on the island, if need be.
Further details outdoors: There is a small bar located at the entrance to the complex run by Mauro and Mercedes who will be happy to serve you with drinks, ices and 'snack meals', so if you don't fancy going too far for these things after a hard day at the pool or beach, you won't have to!!
Further details
Both Tito, the community's employee who tends the pool etc. and Mercedes who runs the bar speak English and German aswell as Spanish and are happy to answer questions about the local area.
