The Somerset region
Somerset is often overlooked by people rushing to Devon and Cornwall but has so much to offer and provides an exceptionally tranquil and varied get-away. From the willow beds (and basket making) of the Somerset levels to the wilds of Exmoor (walks, pubs, cream teas) there are also the high coastal cliffs, fantastic dark skies and the ever-popular Exmoor ponies and herds of red deer. The delights of Glastonbury, Wells and Cheddar are easily accessible as is the Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Rosemoor, Cleeve Abbey (English Heritage) and several National Trust properties (Dunster Castle, Barrington Court, Tyntesfield, Killiton House, Arlington Court, Montacute House, Fyne Court and Coleridge Cottage).
Sampford Brett is a pretty and tranquil village nestling between the beautiful Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Exmoor National Park. It has a Norman church, fine 18th century cottages and a pretty stream meandering through. We are within ¾ of a mile of Williton, which has a full range of shops, pubs, an Indian Restaurant and a station on the West Somerset Steam Railway.
The coast is within 2 miles and the fossils at Kilve beach are only 5 miles away. There are numerous lovely walks and cycle rides direct from the village and various stables that offer riding for all abilities. The Coleridge Way (36 miles from Nether Stowey to Porlock) passes our gate and we are offer a daily drop-off and collection service for guests walking this lovely route that takes you across both the Quantock Hills and Exmoor.
Historic Dunster is 15 minutes from the house with Minehead another 5 minutes down the road.
For guests looking for a car-free holiday, there is a half-hourly bus service to Taunton, Watchet and Minehead and ready access to many of the local walks and attractions. We also have the Moor Rover bus service that will take you and collect you from pre-arranged destinations on Exmoor and the Coleridge Way.
