The North East Brazil / Bahia region
Food and supermarkets. Hiper Bom Preço. This is located on the right hand side of the main road (Estrada do Coco). Everything is available here and often people tend to stop on the way from the airport for urgent supplies as it approximately ten minutes drive after leaving the airport. It is good to note that security guards who will be happy to keep an eye on the car control the car park. For the less adventurous traveller, it would be wise to purchase your meat products here. All other essential products can be purchased locally.
Atacadão. This is a large supermarket where most thing that they sell are far cheaper that anywhere else. Things can be bought in both small and large quantities. N.B. They do not accept credit card payments only cash.
Montegordo and Guarajuba. There are various supermarkets to choose from here. “Adonai” supermarket is probably the best equipped one in Montegordo.
Barra de Pojuca. Supermercado Oliveira, Supermercado 2000 and other have a reasonably good range to choose from.
Fish and seafood. “Peixaria sonho azul” in Montegordo has fresh fish and seafood daily, if not, you can often order for the following day. It is also possible to buy fresh fish directly from the local fishermen. A good local fish is called “Vermelho” and comes in varying sizes. The fishmonger will happily take off the fillets that are very nice grilled on the barbecue, or if preferred, fried.
Gifts and bikinis. Praia do forte has probably the best variety of products available.
Salvador: Hiper Bom Preço.
Local market in Montegordo Sunday is the busiest day at this market, which opens at 5 am. It is advisable to go early because of the flies.
Salvador area
There are many restaurants in Praia do Forte to choose from with various nationalities of cuisine, such as Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, French, international etc as well as beach huts to eat at. It is well worth going there for a meal or a drink on a Friday or Saturday night as some bars and restaurants have live music.
There are also various restaurants and beach huts in Guarajuba. Often when you go to restaurants locally, a portion is sufficient for two people. Generally most restaurants have a ten per cent service charge included in the bill.
Many people enjoy going to “Lagoa Clara” across the bridge from the development. You might like to try the traditional “bolinhas de peixe” fish balls in the “Cabana Frango Fogoso” along the beach to the right.
Further on from Guarajuba, a few minutes in the direction of the airport on the right hand side is a restaurant serving grilled food called Prapapa’s Grill.
Local food is often called Carioca or Baiana. The traditional Baiana dish is called “moqueca” which is like a stew containing various options of main ingredients such as lobster or fish cooked with “dende” oil.

Further details indoors: The house is set in a 1300m2 plot of beautifully landscaped land, commanding a view over a small lake & trees, crossed by a path leading in the direction of the beach. The architecture is of south-East Asia style designed by the prominent Brazilian architect, David Bastos. The accommodation is in separate units, giving a feeling of space and freedom even when fully occupied as the main living areas are detached from the bedroom areas.
Swimming pool. An L-shaped pool with a wooden bridge crossing from the parking and lawn area to the barbecue deck. There are steps into the pool to a shallow area ideal for children, then a shelf to the deeper area with a uniform depth of approximately 1.5m.
Further details outdoors: Pool & Barbecue/ outdoor bar area. This area is equipped with an American Viking gas barbecue fit for the keenest barbecue enthusiast, comprising of various combinations of burners and rotisserie options with two traditional burners alongside, with an interchangeable wok ring and standard grills for pans. An extractor fan and light in the chimney ensures that the food can be cooked to perfection. There is also a small fridge and sink where drinks can be served at the outside bar for a lively pre dinner drink whilst the food is cooking. The food can be served at the fourteen-seater solid wood table, with a retractable sunshade.
