Nomad's Retreat
About the home
The house is a traditional cortijo (old country house) which I have sympathetically re-modelled in a traditional Spanish style ... stone walls, tiled floors, a wonderful thatched roof in the dining/sun room with many fine features not usually found in modern-built properties, such as the large open fire in the lounge. There are full-height opening doors and windows with shutters throughout the house giving plenty of ventilation, and each bedroom has a ceiling fan ... all these features make the property cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Further details indoors:
The house is very spacious with 4 double bedrooms, 3 of which are doubles and 1 room with 2 single beds and a sofa bed. Nomad's swimming pool and hot tub are both totally secluded, and the Retreat stands in 4000 sq. ms (1 acre) on a hill in the countryside with lush, tropical gardens and a wide variety of fruit trees. We have our own private road leading up to the house and parking for up to 4 vehicles. With full 180º uninterrupted views over the Mediterranean, Nomad’s Retreat has been described as a little taste of paradise here on the Spanish coast, and many guests who have been to stay, say they do not want to leave.
Further details outdoors:
The house stands in its own grounds and is very secluded and surrounded by an exotic mix of lush fruit groves offering fruits such as mango, passion fruit, lychee, banana, lemon, orange, pomegranite and avocado to name but a few.
There is a large private swimming pool (9 ms x 4 ms) with a safe shallow play area at one end for younger children and infants surrounded by a decked sun lounging terrace. Next to the pool is a luxury 5-person hot tub ... wonderful for relaxing in under the stars at night !
The house is all on one level and wheelchair friendly with ramps leading down to the pool area.

The Costa Tropical region
The Costa Tropical is the most beautiful region on the Spanish Costas. Historical stone look-out towers sit along the coast line, where messages were once sent to Granada to guard this "special place”. It's very lush and green, most trees that grow here are tropical - palms, mangoes, avocados, pomegranates, bananas etc ... hence the name Costa Tropical ! Luckily for us this is an area has not been ruined by over development. It's an unspoilt dreamy, laid-back place ... the people are truly warm, helpful and friendly. Even to this day it is not unusual to see farmers walking down the streets or ploughing the fields with oxon or donkeys! One of the really special things about the area is that it is clean and safe, particularly for the children. The locals adore children and they are welcomed wherever they go, even in local restaurants late in the evening. The nearest beach to Nomads Retreat, just below Alfa Mar, is a lovely 10min walk or a couple of minutes by car. There, the cove is quiet and peaceful, the beach is somewhat stony, but the rock pools are a great source of enjoyment and adventure for the children, catching crabs & fishing. The sea there is a great place for snorkelling and watersports. Nowhere better to spend a lazy lunchtime, than in the cove's little "Tapas" bar whilst watching the dolphins!
The Salobrena area
Salobrena & Almunecar (Only 10mins drive to either one)
Both historic towns are very pretty, white-washed houses; old town shopping areas & restaurants; Moorish castles, lovely narrow streets to saunter through in the balmy evenings. There are local National parks with deer, wild boar & breath taking views. Shops & supermarkets etc for your every need with some excellent places to eat & drink! The beaches there are sandy and have Tropical "Chiriniquitos" where BBQ or a cocktail can be served to you with sand under your feet!
Almunecar has a beautiful water park overlooking the Mediterranean with slides, pools, etc. Large tropical gardens, restaurants, entertainment, face painting & fun things for the children. Whilst they play safely you can relax with a drink under a palm tree! Full day only €13 (£8.50) half day €7 (under £5) There is also a tropical bird sanctuary under palm trees just below the castle.
The Waterfalls
This is another one of my favourite places to visit, not many people seem to know about this paradise! Clean, clear, water melting from the Sierra Nevada where two rivers meet. It is a lovely hour's drive through a cherimoya plantation, through the mountains & two small villages. Once there, you will not want to leave, children and adults can dive into deep limestone rock pools. I like to sit in the shallow cascading fall & pools, it's better than a Jacuzzi !. Plus spectacular scenery and wildlife (there are always deer to be seen). Take a picnic and cross the swing bridge over one of the waterfalls above a wonderful green valley, which was once a river bed, now filled with exotic trees & flowers and incredible rock formations and trickling streams. Amazing!
The Alpujarras (About 1hrs drive from Nomads Retreat)
Winding mountain roads taking you through forests passing natural springs and caves to just below the Sierra Nevada (Ski Area) where there are pretty white washed villages selling local handycraft, woven rugs, cured hams, locally collected honey, organic cheese & the famous rich olive oils, not forgetting the wonderful and inexpensive wines. One can spend a full day exploring this region eating tapas & local specialities, tasting the local wine and just taking in the views!
Nerja Caves are spectacular, and have the largest stalagmite (or is that a nite!) in Europe - well worth a visit.
During the winter months there is much to do & see in the area ... you can enjoy a morning skiing in the Sierra Nevada...just an hour or so away...& get back in time to watch the sun go down enjoy a cocktail on the terrace by the ocean. Visit the fascinating city of Granada...learn some of Spain's rich history & culture … browse the museums & the amazing Alhambra palace. Or pop down to the millionaire's playground that is Puerto Banus.... & see how the other half live!
And having done all that ... one can just laze by the private pool ... watching dolphins, playing in the distant Mediterranean from the luxury of Nomads Retreat! (which is ... MY particular favourite thing to do!)
Lastly, we have our very own luxury 45' ocean-going yacht, which is available for skippered day cruises with my partner Stephen. He can take you out for full day, half day or evening sunset cruises, departing from our mooring only 20 minutes away and we sail along the beautiful coastline here, before dropping anchor in a quiet, secluded bay for lunch and drinks onboard ... a day to remember forever !!
