The beautiful villa, Carmen de los leones which sleeps 8 is situated on Monte de Los Almendros, a quiet area overlooking the beaches and with unspoilt views of the snow capped Sierra Nevada and Alpujaras. It's less than an hour from the city of Granada where the wonderful Alhambra Palace can be visited.
This magnificently appointed private villa has an additional apartment, which can be rented separately sleeping 6 or together sleeping 14. The whole property is set in its own subtropical gardens with spacious terraces facing east, south and west with panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea, the Moorish Centre of Salobrena and the snow capped Sierra Nevada.
It is ideally situated to explore the mountain Alpujarran villages. The villa has 3 bedrooms, 1 on-suite and one full bathroom. Separate laundry facilities with a washing machine and lines to hang laundry.
A fully fitted and equipped kitchen and all tableware and linen are supplied. It is recommended though that clients bring their own beach towels. The villa has a plunge pool which is for adult use.

Large subtropical garden. Large, secluded swimming pool (shared but only by neighbouring villas), tennis court, football pitch, basketball court, and brand new excercise equioment. Plus children's swings, slides and pool. Several patios and terraces at each level of property (with BBQ and all outdoor furniture provided). Table tennis table, body boards, tennis/table tennis rackets and balls and boules set. Parking area.
It is on the Costa Tropical, five minutes from the beautiful white-washed Moorish village of Salobrena and local beaches where there are excellent traditional beach restaurants (locally known as chiringuitos)serving fresh, local seafood.
Just 30 mins away is the sierra Nevada mountain range which holds Europe's second highest mountain range next to the Alps. There is an expansive ski resort located there which is open most of the year and not only provides excellent skiing / snowboarding but has views over the coast and Africa. Also near to the villa is Aqua tropic water park, about 30 minutes away by car, near the town of Almunecar which neighbours Salobrena. They have water slides, mini golf, beach volleyball, an aquarium, a quad track and a playground.
The Parque de las Ciencias in Granada is a science museum with over 30,000sq.m of outdoor space holding the different premises and scientific experiences which provides a great day out. The property is only 10 min from the town of Motril which has a brand new 18 hole golf course beside the sea.

The Costa Tropical region
The Costa Tropical region of Granada lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and benefits from an average of 320 days of sunshine a year. This beautiful 35 minute stretch of coast is overwhelming in its beauty and charm. Often described as the 'real Spain' due to its lack of over development this area none the less provides everything you could need for a perfect holiday.
The city of Granada itself has a vibrant atmosphere and is steeped in history. The Alhambra is described as 'the Jewel of Moorish Spain' and whether you are looking to relax in gorgeous surroundings, ski in the Nevada mountains or enjoy vibrant night-life you will find what you need here.
The tapas culture thrives in this subtropical heaven and you can be sure that when visiting one of the many bars in the area you will be served traditional local delicacies with your drinks. You will not be short of night-life should you wish to find it but this Spanish idyll also offers peace and quiet as well as the opportunity of watersports, walking, climbing and paragliding for the more adventurous
The Salobrena / Monte de Los Almendros area
Salobrena is a beautiful whitewashed town that sits atop a huge rock just back from the shore. 105 metres above sea level is the Arabic fortified castle, the Castillo which attracts thousands of visitors every year due to its amazing views. Below the castle is the parish church which has been built on the site of an old mosque and is easily distinguished by a Moorish style arch.
There are many traditional festivals and fairs for you to experience such as the San Juan and San Pedro fair in June and the festival in honour of the Virgin of Rosario in October. There are also many films, fiestas, plays and concerts such as the Lucero del Alba Flamenco Festival that turns the historic castle into a romantic setting with a delightful display of traditional music and dancing.
Below the old town on the rock you will find Salobrena's modern side. There are plenty of bars and restaurants whilst avoiding the high rise overdeveloped atmosphere that plagues much of Spain.
From various viewpoints in Salobrena you can see the orchards of sub-tropical fruit trees, expanses of sugar cane, the shoreline and the rugged landscape of the Siera del Chapparral.

This was a perfect place for a family holiday. The accommodation is spacious with plenty of outdoor areas: gardens, covered balcony, large terraces with BBQ area. Well equipped kitchen and communal rooms. Lots of storage space in bedrooms. Our sons used the swimming pool every day, and sometimes they had it all to themselves. Ideally situated for travel to Nerja, Granada and further afield. We even travelled to Almeria for a day trip to visit the Tabernas desert and film sets for the 'spaghetti' westerns. A little distance to the beach, so a car is essential. Overall, I couldn't fault this property. |
