The Lombardy / Lake Garda Area

Lake Garda is the largest of the Italian Lakes, and is situated at the foot of the Alps in a beautiful area of southern Europe. At only 30 Km from Verona, 100 Km from Milan and 130 Km from Venice it is well placed for road, rail and air connections.

Lake Garda offers the visitor a splendid natural scenery, full of colours, surrounded by the Dolomites of Brenta in the north and the gentle slopes of the morainic hills in the south. A rich vegetation flourishes thanks to the Mediterranean climate: lemon trees, oleanders, magnolias and bouganville. The cultivation of vineyards and olive groves produces good wines and olive oil. Walking leisurely around the small village centres, going on a boat trip, exploring the surroundings in a wide choice of itineraries are the best ways of enjoying the lively atmosphere of the lake and the beauty of the landscape. Moreover, Lake Garda is ideally situated for excursions: to the historical cities of Verona, Brescia, Mantua, Trento and Venice, to the Dolomites, to a performance at the Arena in Verona during the Opera Season.

In this region almost every sport can be enjoyed, from tennis to paragliding, free-climbing, scuba-diving, clay-pigeon shooting and go-karting. Sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts find here their ideal conditions and over the last years Lake Garda has been chosen by lovers of mountain-bike and has become world famous for the quality of its golf courses. If looking for fun and relaxation there is a good choice of amusement parks and gardens at the southern tip of the lake; for those who love shopping Salo and Desenzano are meccas, from the picturesque street markets to the most elegant boutiques.

Lake Garda is also well known for its sophisticated night-life, its dolce vita: restaurants, street cafes and bars where you can enjoy an aperitivo and people watch.

Salo / Serniga area

Stretching out along the Salò Gulf and sheltered from the wind, the town of Salò is the renowned port of entrance to the Limone Riviera.
Because of its central location near major roadways, it is a point of reference for the entire area for its many services and its dynamic economic, administrative, and commercial activities.
Its importance is, above all, historical: Salò was the capital of the Magnifica Patria during the period of Venetian domination, and it was also the headquarters of the Fascist Government of the Italian Social Republic.
Traces of its prestigious past can be seen along the main street in the elegant historic centre full of buildings with great historical and artistic value, and also with many boutiques and stores. Salò is very proud of its Palazzo of the Magnifica Patria, built in 1524 by Sansovino and rebuilt after the 1901 earthquake, and of its Late Gothic Cathedral, which was built in the 15th century and which now houses several important works of art. Tourists in this lively town have many other opportunities.
Sports buffs and outdoor enthusiasts have numerous activities to choose from, including the many hiking and biking itineraries found along the hill behind the town or on the lakefront promenade that circles the entire gulf.

Serniga is a sleepy cluster of houses in the hills above Salo, about 10 minutes drive from this lakeside town. Nearby is the village of San Michele, about 1km, with a few restaurants and grocery store.
